3 bad calls already

There was no doubt or question about it, even from an angle on the other side. I replayed it numerous times and slow motioned it and froze it as well. The Ute defender had his arms wrapped around Blackmon well before the ball arrived. The key factor was that Blackmon could not make an attempt to catch the ball because his arms were wrapped up. The ball literally bounced off the front of him. That was the first bad call and set a precedent… giving utah a free touchdown.

I am okay with you comparing the two touchdown replays but to say that it was unclear in both cases if the ball crossed the goal line is disingenuous. You admitted that it was unclear whether the utah player actually got the ball across the goal line before he was down and that hasn’t changed. It is still unclear… because it never did. On Mangum’s touchdown, he CLEARLY stretched himself out and, with both hands on the ball reached it out and actually into the endzone. There was a clear camera angle that showed this over and over. It also showed that the rest of his body, knees, etc. did not hit the ground until after the ball had clearly crossed. The camera did not show the utah player breaking the plane with the ball, it did show it with Mangum… clearly and obviously. I really can’t believe you didn’t see this. I think your vision is clouded because of wanting to defend officials and argue the points with me.

I am in complete agreement with you regarding preparation and the feelings of the players. I don’t doubt that at all. I also know it contributed to the poor start. This is the primary reason I am fine with Bronco leaving. The approach of he and Anae is poor in my opinion. Lack of preparation, stubbornness and the inability to evaluate the best talent and put the best players in the game has been one of their hallmarks. We saw it over and over.

Anyhow, I agree with you on most of your post, but I disagree on the touchdown replays, Mangums was obviously a touchdown while the ute TD was not clear at all…

The Utah one is still unclear. But, they would have scored on the next play anyways. Mangum definate was in. The only question I had was if the ball was coming out before it hit the ground.
I saw an interview today with Sitake and he had an interesting take on Bronco. That players stayed away from the second floor where Bronco’s office was. And the feeling the players had was one of fear. Sitake will be good for the team.

you simply do not want to be objective Jim… That is the problem… If you choose to look for bias, you see what you want to see.

Your like the kid who always sees monsters under the bed, even when they are not there…

So to discuss this with you would futile and a waste of time…

FYI, I have had several of my official buddies who do D1 or HS ball and are neither BYU or Utah fans look at the replay I have at my house.
They seem to agree with my assessment, so I guess you will have to decide what you believe…

Sure thing… whatever you say.

It might be time to start looking for the beam in your own eye. :disappointed:

As for the notion that Mangums touchdown crossing the plane of the goal line and comparing it to the utah guy crossing the goal line, there is none. If you really think I believe “several of your official buddies looked at the replay and disagree with that” I call BS. I don’t believe it.

And we lose against Harvard. Get down early by 16. Sound familiar? Came back but tired out in the end. Fischer another no show. KC shot well but too many turnovers again.

go to the basketball section…

running a play for Fischer at the end of regulation was bizarre. I don’t know about any “comebacks”… it was a 2 point game at halftime and BYU had the lead several times in the second half.

This team has no chemistry, they are not nearly as good as they think they are and the coaching just isn’t there right now. If the philosophy doesn’t change soon, they might end up as a middle of the pack wcc team.

We got down by 16. So, we made another comeback. Maybe Rose thought Harvard was going to cover everyone else so why not Fischer. Change the line up.

The highlights can be seen here

The one with Mangum is 0:57 long. At about 0:45, you can see the angle of the video where it clearly shows that he broke the plane prior to his knee touching or the ball coming loose. Even the announcers said it was clearly a touch down.

yeah… that makes total sense. Go to the guy that hasn’t done a thing all game and trick the other team. LOL!

The whole preparation issue is becoming a disease with BYU’s mens sports teams. Harvard was a lousy 3-6 so far this year, that’s 3 wins and 6 losses!

You can’t be serious with your comeback comment and your Rose thought Harvard was going to cover Fischer… this is high schoolish. And what is up with that Quincy guy they brought in as an assistant? I thought he was some sort of defensive specialist… BYU’s defense is terrible.

First of all, the record of Harvard doesn’t tell their story. Check on the losses and to who. You will find they played some top teams close. They have played a brutal schedule.
I agree that the defense is suspect. Especially their man defense. Kaufusi needs to be in more to defend the paint. Many of the 3s Harvard made were tough shots. Can’t do much about those.
The turnovers were poor but I stand by my comment about coming back. They did.

This is a football thread and your comments are spot on Russ. Not sure why SG changed it to basketball but I was drawn in and had to respond to his post. I know I shouldn’t have, I just can’t help myself.

That was from you in this thread. The conversation is about poor coaching decisions and it runs through the football and basketball teams. I know for some it’s hard to think about two things that are different but have similarities. It takes cognitive reasoning and Einstein brain mass. But try anyways

Although you are talking about coaching decisions for both FB and BB, if the content of your post is about BB then post on the BB side please.

Nonsense! Take a chill pill and have a merry Christmas. The content is about coaching and using analogies across sports is valid. The sports analysts on BYU Sports Nation were doing the same thing.

Oh yeah? I don’t need a chill pill, got fresh snow. BB belongs on BB side and FB belongs on FB side. Fess up. :grinning:

analogies can be used for those who understand logic and reasoning. Without this all you are doing is applying concrete circular reasoning. Something a 5th grader does

All you are doing is verbal self-pleasure. With 2 grad degrees, I have seen a lot of it both in textbooks and lectures. If you don’t stop typing like you are doing, you will grow hair on your hands. BTW, Scott, just messing with you. Nothing meant serious. I really don’t care if you talk about all the sports that BYU does. Go for it.

Maybe we need a combo section
