Baylor game talk

Missed chip shot field will be difference in game

Might just win despite RR. Arod

Defense wins this game. - again

We just screwed ourselves over

ARod has never called a game to ā€œWinā€, he calls it to ā€œnot loseā€, when he is way ahead, instead of putting the game outreach, he goes to ā€œprevent offenseā€.

All this so ARod and Kalani cannot be accused of running up the score. That is one of Kalani biggest fears being lablel as someone who runs the score up.

Come on defense itā€™s time to stop them

DEFENSE! Wins the game.

Well Color Me surprised. I really thought we were going to lose. We need to figure out how score in the second half

It may just be a good idea to have Bohanan play 2nd halfā€™s when Retzlaff takes his foot off the pedal

I would like to see BYU put in some wildcat packages for Bohanon. That third and two when Retzlaff threw the interception with about 4 minutes left would have been ideal to put in a big fast athletic QB to pick up a few yards in a situation where you are trying to run out the clock. I would hate to see his senior season completely wasted taking knees in garbage time. He has some skills and they need to find some situations to use him. I know he said he didnā€™t want that but it seems he could be utilized without creating a QB controversy.

The D came through in the clutch. Two stops late in the game when it looked like the game was slipping away.

I agree Aro. I donā€™t think there would be a controversy if Bohanon was used in some specific situations, similar to the one you mentioned. I am not sure what to think about this gameā€¦ kind of like every game so far. The end result is great, BYU is 5-0. During the first half BYU was masterful. Roderickā€™s play calling was excellent and Retzlaff was effective and dialed in. BYU looked as good as they have all year. The sustained drives were great, the mistake free play calling and execution were great. The defense did their job and even helped out with a nice turnover. Everything was about as good as could be.

And then something happenedā€¦

It was like Roderick and Retzlaff, R & R, took the game to a different placeā€¦ like they were the R & R of Rest and Relaxation. I donā€™t really know what happened but Roderick started making some strange calls after Baylor had adjusted just a little bit to what was working for BYU. A little tweak here or there would have kept the game in BYUā€™s control but they couldnā€™t do it. Retzlaff all of the sudden couldnā€™t hit anyone and when he did, the receivers dropped the ball. The running backs didnā€™t seem to be as fast to the holes, the holes didnā€™t seem as big. It was weird, but it was a collaborative effort. Was any single plaer or coach to blame? I donā€™t think so. One thing that seemed to also affect things negatively was the officiating. BYU started looking like the BYU of old when officials hated on them and would call strange penalties on the Cougars but nothing on their opponent. One holding penalty was finally called near the end of the game after a dozen that could have been called and werenā€™t. It was just a collaborative effort on the part of everyone to make the game close, for whatever reason.

It was stressful but ultimately BYU came out on top and for a morning road game against a decent team, Iā€™m not going to look back. Letā€™s take the win and clean things up as if we were still after our first win, not our bowl eligible clinching win only halfway into the season.

While I agree about ARod, you canā€™t blame Retzlaff for Lassister dropping several catchable passes in the last part of the 3rd qtr.

Like said before, Arod gets ahead in a game then switches to prevent offense. He is afraid to be accused of running up the score.

Having said all that, I watched the replay (never watch live, my blood pressure canā€™t handle it) I watch a lot of grabbing and holding by the Baylor defense. In fact one catch that Lassister had in the 3rd qtr was hit clearly before the ball got there.

This what makes it hard to defend the officials when in the K-state game tricky tack contact was called frequently and in this game, mugging is the norm.

Both crews are from the BIG12 and should not even see that big of a difference between the games.

I didnā€™t actually blame him for that. I think people should read a post multiple times so when they reply they donā€™t accuse someone of saying something they didnā€™t say. Hopper does this with regularityā€¦ claiming someone said something when they didnā€™t.

You were responding to Floyd. Then you mentioned me for some odd reason. ADDHD???

Is there a rule that says you canā€™t mention other posters when responding to a specific person? I mentioned you because you did the same thing Floyd did.

What are you talking about ADDHD for? I know you can read but you certainly have a difficult time understanding what you read.

And yet, here we sit at 5-0. How many teams in the Big 12 remain undefeated? just 2

BYU got 151 yds. rushing. Take out Retzaiffā€™s 55, so we did not quite get to 100 but we also have been doing it with 3rd and 4th string RBs. so at this point, I am a BUYER.

Should be close to 100% vs. Zona

by the way, guess who the highest rated player is on the BYU football team?

If we are talking production:
1 Retzaiff
2 Tyler Batty
3 Kelly
4 Roberts

Optimism yes, but guardedā€¦

I was posting to all the guys who were hating on Retzaiff early on.

after 5 games all I can say is that Iā€™ve seen him play really well and like a moron; that he is good enough to win games with the defense we have; he has learned to take a sack instead of an interception and that he will be our QB for the rest of the season unless he gets hurt. I will say this that Bohanon should play against Arizona, but not because I think he is better, but because KS showed that they canā€™t beat a team with a mobile QB and Bohanon is that QB I would play him for that game.
