Did the guy that got dragged into the police car screaming because theyâd severed his spine do something wrong? They canât even tell us what he was arrested for! If I were black, I wouldnât have a clue how to react to police presence, and would just try to stay as far away from them as possible. Iâm so grateful for white privilege so I donât have to deal with it. All the more reason I feel some kind of responsibility to fight injustices like this. I have no doubt whatsoever that if most white people spent one week dealing with the things blacks deal with daily theyâd be singing a completely different tune. And if you want to bring up Chris Rock, you should look at a few more things heâs said besides this little comedy bit that makes white people feel better.
Do you think Mother Teresa was okay with sin? You might want to do your homework first. People of faith lover the sinner but hate the sin. Mother Teresa never backed down from her vows to her God. And, any other event where there was not justified homicide they are being charged with a crime. The guy who was choked to death was fighting and needed to be subdued. Choke holds are a part of procedure. When I was in Police Science, we went over how to do a proper choke hold. Each student who was choked unconscious had to give their permission first. Thatâs back in 1973 when I took that class. I already knew how to do the chokes as I was a black belt at that time. It was dangerous then and it still is. But, itâs either them or you. At the point that the cop fired his gun, the suspect was not a threat. The cop should not have pulled the trigger and the cop should not have tried to cover it up. The cope knew that he was in the wrong. He committed murder and attempted to cover it up by moving the taser.

This is not a white cop vs black suspect issue. This is an ongoing issue with cops shooting people, dogs, etc. Cops are not above the law. They either need to follow the law or go to jail.

Did you bother to look at the link to see where they were talking about that the suspect fired the cops taser at him?
If you look at the original video, just as the suspect starts running, something is thrown at the cop that looks like the taser gun. Still, and Iâve said this before, they did the right thing in charging the cop, and if the suspect did fire the cops taser, it doesnât give the cop the right to fatally shoot him.
How does this have anything to do with my statement about ignorance? Weâve all seen the video, but it turns on just as the event started. Nothing just before can be cleanly seen. So, before you start a lynch mod, maybe you should wait to see what all eventually comes out?
Yes, I looked at the link. Yes, I saw that they said the suspect fired the cops taser. The cop had every right to be pissed off. However, as you agreed, just like when I get pissed off in traffic, the cop doesnât have the right to shoot the suspect simply because he is pissed off. He then compounded the mistake by moving the taser. Up till then, he probably avoids jail time. He shouldnât, but he probably would have. By moving the taser, he fundamentally changed the crime scene and indicated, among other things, lack of remorse, disdain for the law and arrogance. He became at that moment a common criminal rather than someone who just did a dumb thing.
I donât know Russ. It just seems to me a lot of ignorance is being spread on this thread. People like SH are hopeless, but surely modern Christians should understand that the Bible SH uses to spread his hate is nothing more than the product of a thousands of years old sheep herder culture, not a guide to living your life in the 21st century! The Bible should be respected for the same reason all of the myths from various cultures should be respected, but when people use it to claim that God demands worship and needs his butt kissed every two seconds, I just kind of lose respect for that viewpoint.
The ignorance Iâm talking about is expressed in the implicit assumption that any evidence that indicts a cop when black people are involved is suspect. Even when there is direct video evidence thereâs always an excuse. Just read back over this thread. This attitude is legion. I think this link says it better than I could. Please read it with an open mind, and dare I say âprayerfullyâ and see if you can still maintain the belief that black people are treated by the police the same way white people are treated, or if as SG believes, any black person that has a confrontation with the police is a thug that gets whatever they deserve.
