Kansas, 1st loss of the season

Now now Tom…

You obviously don’t understand that BYU is different from everyone else and that, in spite of wanting to be the best we can be, we just need to accept that our current offensive plan and results ARE the best we can do and live with it.

In case you are wondering, I agree with you 100%.

I’ll stop when you stop.
I’m sure if you pulled him aside he would say the same things that he says in front of the camera. That’s integrity. You are putting words in his mouth…

I disagree with the way they look at how to rank the teams. SMU is also 9-1 but WE BEAT THEM! We play a by far more difficult schedule. Why are they ahead of BYU? Same with Boise. Who do they play? Good grief!

Because of the things EVERYONE is observing and commenting about regarding the team. The BYU offense does not, let me repeat does not, pass the eye test. When I say eye test I mean what they play like in games, what the critical stats point to and how they handle their business.

BYU has a very good defense and a very average offense. What other way can it be said so you understand? Have you watched Boise State? Their only loss was to Oregon… the #1 ranked team currently and it was by 3 points. SMU passes the eye test as well. Lastly, both of those teams are playing much better than BYU is right now.

I want BYU to do well and I am glad they have a great record but they just don’t look great on the offensive side of the ball, certainly not as good as SMU and Boise do right now. The win against SMU was a great win but it was the defense that won the game, not the offense… a pattern we have seen all season.

Get with it. You’ve been saying the same all season long as well… switch out the QB, we need a new OC, etc. so why the change now?

How do you know they are better when they are playing inferior teams week in and week out? We are still basically talent wise the same as SMU and Boise St. yet we’ve been beating far superior talented teams. And, head to head, beat SMU.

Lots of talk about rankings. I don’t care about rankings. Just win and think about the next game and play your best and win. Win the next two and BYU is in the Big 12 title game. Then win the Big 12 title game and they are in the playoff. Just win. When your most recent games are among your worst of the year it will affect your ranking. Just prepare for the next game and forget everything else.

As fans we can’t do anything about rankings

It is classless and makes BYU more like schools who just want to win every game and spend their sporting money wisely. BYU is unique in that to appease the majority of the fan base we need to make slow decisions and allow people who aren’t good at their jobs to stay employed for 3-4 years longer than the winning programs do. It makes BYU unique and inspires Loyality and just makes 85% of the fan base feel good about liking and following BYU football. Furthermore, if you have absolutely terrible numbers to back up your poor performance over many years …… it is very negative to have someone mention it! Totally classless really!

Then why are you wanting to keep ARod? He is as bad as Tui was?? Makes no sense

This reply has zero to do with employing competent coaches …. No one is saying get rid of Sitake. They are saying get rid of ARod. Normally Burton - I agree with your comments on here. I just don’t see your logic with a defense of ARod or of treating BYU sports as a business. The church and school say the athletic dept stands on its own and has to support itself. But obviously they want the athletics to be a good example for the church and gospel. Ethics and rules won’t be trampled on to win. I agree with this.

However, removing a coordinator from his job isn’t against any rule or counter to winning and expecting excellence and improvement. Being ranked out of the top 50 offenses in the country isn’t good enough for BYU. They might need to be smarter in allocating funds inside the program but they can certainly afford a good/great OC! There are professional coaches who are great OC’s and could be hired and probably would do the job for less than ARod makes. But for some reason we have blind loyalty to bad coaches for years! Hill could have and should have been hired 5 years ago. Why the hesitation on improving the program because of “BYU is a unique university” argument?

I think you just showed your class is non-existent. Win at all cost. That’s the only thing important. It’s the 85% that have the class. They are the only ones that will keep BYU in sports doing it the right way.

Everytime you disagree with people on this forum - I know the other point of view holds more validity! Lol

Boise’s only loss: Oregon @ Oregon. and by only 3 points. They certainly pass the eye test.

IF BYU makes it to the championship game with Colorado. It will be hyped up so much that the winner would easily pass a one loss BSU.
Before that, as Aro says, win each game and let the rankings take care of themselves

hahahahahahaah, nobody was as bad as TUI.

Explaining BYU’s placement, CFP spokesmen Warde Manuel said on ESPN: “We watch the games and see how teams are playing each week. When we saw a team (like BYU) that has close wins, struggles and comes back and wins the game. Those are great wins, but it also tells us about where that team is playing. So, we are going to evaluate it each week, based on how the team plays that week as well as the season as a whole.

It’s hard to fire an OC when the team is most likely going to end up 10-2. Believe me when I say, I’ve questioned a ton of play calls in the last 20 years clear back to Anae. BYU’s practice of staying with coaches longer than other schools is a product of the school’s mentality and will probably remain that way. Not my decision and I’m not one to argue about it, just the way it is. Tui was here longer than he probably should have been, not my decision. My big objection to fans complaining every time there team loses, is they never say “hey the other team was better than us”. They always want to blame someone for their teams failure. A week ago Retzlaff was an icon getting a ton of media. Today he’s not so great. In my opinion he’s been the good, the bad, and the ugly. Better than last year, though. Everyone wants to laud the defense, and mostly deserving. But the defense has struggled at times stopping the run and the offense has had to step up. Fans have short memories. I have never said “keep ARod or fire ARod” and I never would. I have never called one offensive play on this level and I would expect nobody on this board has. So I leave the call to people more qualified than me and just try and enjoy the product. There are people closer to the current happenings with the athletic department like Larmer and Chris, so I pay more attention to them, if I want to know what’s going on currently, but I’ve seen them be off too-an in exact science at best

Love your thinking here.
I also fall under: nobody’s getting fired when we are winning. It does not matter that we are dissecting ARod’s calls at the end of a game. ARod should get credit when we do some miraculous come from behind wins as well, such as Utah and OSU. I also do NOT put AROD in the same bus seat as Tuiaki. He was like watching frogs boil…eventually BYU’s slow death defense ruined any Mojo the team had.

You can couple that with Retzaiff’s play in pressure. poor choices, a turnover here cost BYU. Retzaiff has really been working on minimizing the brain farts, hence the long winning streak.

Good to see you back, Floyd

I’m sure it’s tough to fire a friend or was it a relation?

I have a question for you because I don’t really remember. Who was the last OC that people were mostly thrilled about and Leave out Grimes because he had a really short stint at BYU.

Not trying to answer for Fish but I think it may have been Gary Crowton his first season because he was the head coach but coached the offense as well. Norm Chow was a great OC but the fans turned sour on him his last few seasons and he left and then made a great record with NC St and I think USC.

Sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for…

I don’t want to keep ARod, and have never said I want to keep him. If we got a good OC like when we replaced Tuiaki with Hill, then we would be in business.

Thanks I didn’t include Crowdon, as he was a head coach. Chow was the one that came to my mind. That’s been a while ago. Shows you it’s a tough job.

They were showing this on BYUSN today. But, they also went further into the interview when he said plain as day, “We don’t decide if the scores are close.” Complete hypocrisy.

Welcome back!
