Excited about tomorrow night. We’ve been having watch parties at my house for BYU games here in Oregon and it’s been an awesome year. Last Saturday, we had about 20 people over. Tomorrow, if we were at Kansas, I’d say KS 34-20. It feels like we are very due to lay an egg. But at LES? I think we come out with energy and play well…I hope. I’ll nervously say BYU 27-24. If we can run the ball, I think we lean on that and pound away. But Kansas is super talented and are playing great right now. Weather looks cool and dry with about 30-35 degrees during game.
At home and with bad weather, I’m going to say we cause 3 to 4 turnovers and we protect the ball well. BYU wins 45 - 17
The only thing that concerns me is continuity and flow of the offense. That is something I haven’t seen pretty much all season long so it isn’t expected. I’ve never seen a team that relies more on the defense and special teams to win games than BYU does. I would love to see it continue but I want the offense to take charge of a game and not look back. Stop relying on the defense all the time or special teams play.
I’ll put that one on the OC… he’s about due to call a good game.
Not sure what you are talking about. Maybe we don’t see a lot because the defense gives us great field position and they sometimes score. Same with special teams. There’s more than one way to skin a cat. This year, it’s getting great play from the defense and special teams with the offense doing enough to win. I honestly don’t care how they win Saturday. Just win at this point. Only 3 teams are undefeated in the entirety of D1 football. Teams know what we do and are more ready for us. We need to be the same way to them.
I agree with you. The glaring weakness on this team is offense and the play calling. We have been lucky so far. But I don’t expect the luck to continue through the Big12 Championship game
Waiting for wife at Walmart just enuf time to make my prediction
BYU39 Kansas 16
Similar to UCF
Retzlaff and Arod finally get in sync like a Venn diagram with high percentage of overlap
Let’s see……. Who else just loved Venn Diagrams…… maybe I used the wrong example
I forgot her name already. Canola? No, that’s not it. Kaleidoscope? No
I know it was something that when I heard it I felt a little nauseous.
Well, got 3 layers on so wish me luck on stayywa
SMU continues to make BYU look amazing.
Just thought I’d repost my comments from yesterday, BEFORE the game.
Offense lost this game, big time. I don’t really need to say what was wrong because I already said it. It wasn’t ever a matter of if BYU was going to lose, it was just a matter of when. I don’t want to hear any excuses… Oh, Kansas is playing so good right now or Oh, BYU just had an off game or Oh, they just didn’t execute. None of them are worth a thing.
This is something I have been anticipating would happen for the last several games and it finally caught up to them. What a horrible loss… and at home too. Anyone want to predict what will happen at ASU next week? I could see BYU losing that one as well. Wouldn’t that put ASU in the Big 12 title game vs. Colorado? I wouldn’t be surprised at all if that happened.
I repeat what I just said! Crappy OC with 14 and 13 points scored the last 2 games. Utah defense can explain the 14 but Kansas is no Utah defense. I also will say we won’t beat a good team with Retzlaff at QB. Time for new play caller and a QB!
Who calls a sweep on a 3rd and 7 inside the opponent’s 10 yard line?? What QB doesn’t throw the ball at least to that first down marker???
Answer - Erroron Roderick and Joke Retzlaff.
At this point in the season who would you suggest they put in at QB?
No way BYU should have lost this one. Next week against ASU would have been much easier to take and BYU will have to be at their best next week and will be an underdog. Lose that one and say goodbye to a Big 12 title game.
Considering BYU was only supposed to win 4-5 games I guess I should be happy but they win 9 straight and if they fall apart at the end of the year it will be a shame. They have been living on the edge too much and it caught up with them.
Ummm…Roberts said in the after game interview that he cut too soon. It wasn’t Retzlaff’s fault. Put that one to rest. The problem on that play was the penalty that moved us back 5 yards making the throw short. You like to bully people. Retzlaff has done well this year.
No.
The problem on the play was that it was fourth down and the odds of converting in that situation were pretty low. The real problem is that BYU fizzles when they get close to the end zone and that has been a problem all year long. The play calls, the execution of those play calls, the effort needed to will the ball into the end zone has been lacking all season long.
Retzlaff has not “played well” or should I say “been consistent” all year long. You have suggested numerous times this season that Bohannon take over. If “Retzlaff has done well this year” as you stated then you wouldn’t be suggesting he be replaced. His erratic, inconsistent play throughout the season along with an OC that makes the most bizarre play calls and has no idea what he is doing when it comes to situational football has been a game killer that has been waiting to happen all season long.
If not for the defense and special teams (which was a factor in the loss this time) giving the offense opportunities all season long, BYU would have a losing record. Sorry, that is just the reality of what has been a very good season record wise, but also a very frustrating season to watch. And everybody knows they were way over rated at #6 in the nation. I don’t believe, overall, that BYU is even a top 20 team in the nation. They made it this far with smoke and mirrors and last night reality set in. Their odds of beating ASU next week have to be less than 50-50. I just don’t see it happening unless the defense can bail out the offense again.
Well, you didn’t really speak to that specific last play. I’ll take the words of Robert’s. He was being honest. My point is, no penalty and he would not of been short. The mental mistake cost them the game.
could some of the problem be injuries to key linemen on offense? Just throwing it out there because of poor 3rd down execution.
Yeah, this game was lost on mistakes, plenty of them. We turned Kansas over in the 2nd and went 3 and out. Just a million ways to lose this game.
After a loss like this, it is easy to turn on Arod (i know I was freaking out at the lousy play calls but look at the stats, BYU should of been up by a TD over kansas at the half, that and a early 2nd half score and BYU would never have looked back
Did you also notice each team only had 2 penalties for 10 yards. No holding penalties. No ruffing the passer. Not pass interference. No unsportsmanship. I wonder why
Game was lost on 3 mistakes.
BYU dominated Kansas in all Stats but redzone.
I agree. Somewhere I listed them too.
Keep in mind that Jeff Grimes is their OC. He knows Arod. He is supposed to be so much better than Arod yet we held them to 10 points on offense. The other 7 points were the muffed punt ending up on our 3 yardline.
