Same with Mboup. If he’s solidified his outside shooting, he could be fun to watch as well. We will be loaded if we can pick up another quality point guard. If not, I think Baker can learn to run it well and be a threat to shoot and score too. Sounds like things are coming together to bring back Demin.
Is Dallin Hall a possibility to return?
Never say never, especially in the NIL age, but I believe Dallin Hall will go elsewhere. Teams like North Carolina, Arizona, Iowa State, Indiana, Gonzaga, and many others have all reached out to Dallin and drove his NIL price into the seven-figure range, according to sources. I believe BYU and Dallin are both set on different paths.
Where Does BYU Go Next to Replace Egor Demin? - Vanquish The Foe
no he signed with Virginia
But this should ease the pain:
Baylor point guard Robert Wright III reportedly transfers to BYU – Deseret News
5 star guard
With AJ, Wright and Saunders, BYU is going to be humming
I have never wavered on Hall and his importance to BYU basketball but alas, he is gone and will be hard to replace that locker room leadership. That injury was worse then we were lead to believe, I think BYU would of been 2nd in the Big 12 if Hall was healthy.
Gone and for the record, there are all stars in the NBA with Demin’s stats. A 6’9 point is extremely rare in the NBA. He will never be in a G league. Ben Simmons comes to mind
Best point guards in Philadelphia 76ers history, ranked can’t shoot a lick and averaged 16ppg because there is no defense in the NBA
Baker is a great 6th man option but KY will be bringing in a couple more starters.
Keba
AJ
Saunders
Wright (Baylor Transfer)- this will be our biggest Transfer get.
Diomande (Wash Transfer)
5 guys that can make some noise
Baker and Saunders are key to our scoring base, proven scorers. We will need to replace Knell and Foos’s scoring. We just upgraded from Hall to Wright.
BYU Cougars Basketball Transfer Portal: Full List of Players Entering and Exiting
I would love to see Crawford return. There are some others out there that BYU is in hot pursuit and coach Fleming is on it.
If I break down our needs:
Foos was unstoppable down low but could not defend, with the talent coming in, a scoring center would be a luxury. Stanton is most likely a year out and Bosko is not a great defender but can play the 5 if needed so look for 1 more big man.
Knell and Hall. BYU can upgrade to guys that give us just a much scoring with a upgrade in D.
BTW, Hall has 0 chance of playing NBA ball as Jim points out. Wright fits every need but outside shooting.
Mag is tough to replace but I hear Diomande can defend and he is a better scorer. Mboup is a solid defender but still a year out in terms of knowing what to do in college BBall.
Having never played a game at Washington, French Forward Dominique Diomande enters the transfer portal
so there is a big ? on if Dominique can be a starter at BYU this coming year. One thing I know, is he will not be like Catchings, he will come here with purpose having been a NBA top 50 guy before Washington.
Kozlowski is still kind of a odd man out but if he sticks around, he will be a force. Kind of like Crawford this season…it would be perfect if Crawford stayed. he has big potential and would get solid minutes behind Wright.
Need one more big man
Need some dead eye 3 point shooters that can defend
and one more solid Point.
go Cougs
Mboup practiced all year. He’s going to surprise a lot of people. He will fill in at the 3-4 position coming off the bench. We need a point. Staton and Bos will fill in for the 5’s unless someone else comes available. I hope Crawford does come back too. We will be again 10-11 deep which is good. Injuries happen.
This is what a real one and done 6’9” point guard should look like…
Robert Wright III an upgrade over Dallin Hall?
Wow, who’d have thought?
I’ll tell you who… ME!
It is looking more and more like Kevin Young can go out and get almost anyone he wants but certainly has the knowledge to put a team together that will do exactly what he said he was going to do. That is prepare high level talent to play at the next level… as in NBA level.
Go Cougs!
Boom!
[BYU basketball: Idaho transfer Tyler Mrus commits to Cougars – Deseret News]
(BYU basketball: Idaho transfer Tyler Mrus commits to Cougars – Deseret News)
With all the attention on AJ, Wright and Davis. Mrus and Diamonde need to be mentioned. Tyler is far more then a fill in player. He is very aggressive on O. He will be used as a 3 point sharp shooter but can get to the hoop and finish. Reminds me of a 6’7 Baker.
Diomande, Frenchman transfer from Wash is explosive, He can jump out of the building..
Dominique Diomande 21 points #basketball #shorts #youtube #dunk #highlights
BYU basketball announces signing of transfer Dominique Diomande – Deseret News
Diomande is flashy, can probably out jump anyone on BYU’s team. He can be a great finisher and rebounder but the one knock is he shoots under 30% from 3. (that was the knock on Mag, remember?). He could see himself competing with AJ Dybansa.
Nate Pickens from Riverside is coming to BYU. He’s the point guard to come off the bench we’ve been looking for. 6’3” he can play defense as well as shoot well too. Very deep team.
what do you think of the 7-1 Staton? Project or good? He plays with AJ this year.
Good player. He, like AJ, are working on gaining muscle and weight. You will be surprised what he can do.
IS… He, like AJ, “is” working on gaining muscle and weight. If you had said “He and AJ”, then it would have been “are working” and gramatically correct. You taught school?
Taught math. Terrible in English. But, I was communicating with Holy Edwards, the new Pope. So, all is good.
Staton is a better shot blocker than Keba. His reach is soo long, he will alter a lot of inside shots. It is interesting that Young did not look for another inside big. He probably feels BYU is set with Keba and Staton, Bosco can play the 5 if he had to.
I do like that BYU added another point guard. Pickens and Davis Jr can also play some point. Along with Baker, BYU has 4 guys that can run the offense.
Then we go and add Mrus, a taller version of Knell, who can play D!
Will this be the lineup?
Starters

Rob Wright III

Kennard Davis Jr. (committed a couple of weeks ago, but still hasn’t signed. Hope there’s not an issue.)
-

Keba Keita
Significant minutes (10+) off the bench
-
Nate Pickens

Xavion Staton
Where do the following highly talented players fit in?
- Khadim Mboup
- Brody Kozlowski
Too many talented players, not enough minutes. Good problem to have.
Should be very competitive for sure. Maybe Davis isn’t so sure of himself? There’s 3 or 4 others that can beat him out to start.
What do you see as how many deep in rotation ~ 8 plus minutes (9-10 deep??) thru most of season and what do you mean think that will fall at end of season especially conference tournament and dance.
Thanks
Veteran players get the most minutes with AJ as the exception.
I was wrong about one player last year (Bosco), thought he would turn into a starter.
Mboup is a project player so I don’t see him as getting big minutes.
Diamonde can jump out of the gym but he does too many flashy moves to get the job done. I think it may be maturity issues, IDK.
Jr. Mrus hit it on the head when he said that BYU needs a sniper…a 6’7 sniper who can guard.
39% from 3. He will get minutes
Pickens will be getting minutes as well as he is also a 39% sniper from 3. and is a senior.
We know 4 starters: AJ, Saunders, Keba and Wright lll. Davis or Pickens will be the 5th.
Baker and Pickens 1st off the bench with Mrus, Boskovic spelling the 3 and 4. Staton will backup Keba. Koz could steal minutes from the new guys but then we are talking Veteran plays who came here to play and get a final 4.
Kevin Young knows how to score with this group…watch how he works on the D nessesarry to compete vs. the Big 12 but his eye is on the big dance and the D needs to come WAY UP.
More than one interview KY has sua sponte brought Mboup up, and he looked good in the practice video…the future with Diamonte and Mboup together on the floor is exciting if they can mature enough, and with transfer portal, stay long enough
KD Jr not being officially signed yet is of concern. Of the transfer players, I think his potential to make a difference on this year’s squad is the highest.
I am excited to see how the defence shapes up.
