Thanks for the precise definitions. I suppose you could say we are both a republic and a democracy and neither. The two terms seem to be very broad in the way they are used. Different people have different understandings as to what the terms mean. My gag reflex kicks in when I hear people in high and holy tones beat their chests about “our democracy”.
Absolutely! We have to realize as well that word definitions do change from time to time. When Democrat have the majority, democracy means less individual freedom, more government regulating individuals and corporations, more approval if immorality according to God. It may not have been as egregious in the distant past during the JFK era. But, it has become this way for the past couple of decades with Obama and Biden along with Democrat controlled House of Representatives and sometimes the Senate.
America is many things but any label other than “ours,” is a large misnomer I believe.
What is ours is a constitution and its history in its multivariate facets.
is one of the most mind blowing and satisfying conversations I have heard in a long time, a great explanation for much of the conflict around the world…Marxist/late 19th century German thought which did create the Fascist/Nazi ideologies which are largely embraced by still too many in East Asia and the Middle East…and still too ascendent in the English-speaking academies.
I was expressing my displeasure with so many leftists who constantly talk about Trump, or anybody, who opposes their agenda as being an existential threat to “our Democracy” and then they attempt to suppress Democratic principles like freedom of expression when opinions are expressed in opposition to some of their perverted and destructive ideas.
