Where they miss lots of short shots. This is leading to 29.5% shooting. Pathetic!
KC has taken some questionable shots.
Too many offensive rebounds allowed by our defense.
Work the ball around more and set better screens.
Poor shooting and free throws are doing is in if we lose. Plus, they have more shots and better shooting percentage.
I don’t want to whine about all the poor plays that certain players made tonight but, a few things really stuck out to me. Our bigs really had a difficult time handling the ball tonight. Whether it was grabbing rebounds, catching passes cleanly or making a 3ft jump hook, it just was a struggle tonight. The 3pt line was guarded well tonight so players were trying to drive more but we had such a hard time finishing at the rim tonight, especially when trying to play through contact. It is too bad that BYU lost this game. It was really a pivotal game for the league championship. Its looking like BYU’s only hope will be for a WCC tournament championship/automatic bid.
Make layups and short shots has been my reason for winning all season long. They lack concentration.
Austin has some good moments but all I all he has slippery hands and loses his balance too easily.
Davis has struggled with that semi- hook flip shot.
Pepperdine plays good defense and we weren’t patient enough down the stretch. And most of the game took a lot of difficult shots. But give credit to their defense.
It came down to our poor shooting percentage and free throws.
Why do they miss so many short shots and layups? Are they bad shots? Are they forcing the shots trying to draw fouls? Are they off balance? Why aren’t they concentrating more? The poor shooting % might have something to do with the 10 total assists they had. They will always struggle to win games with only 10 assists… a far cry from the 28 they had vs. LMU. Total points scored minus the free throws was 52.
I think they are half way through the league and more than halfway through the season now (21 games) and they still can’t seem to do the basic things needed to win games. Also, do you really believe they have a chance to win the wcc tournament? How?
Any contested shot requires intense concentration giving up ones body to possible injury. If one fears contact in any sport then the chances of succeeding go down. Emery makes a great move to get to the basket and lay it in. But he comes up short from a foot away because he’s expecting contact and takes a peak at the defender still on the ground.
Sometimes players like Davis are expecting a block attempt and rush the flip shot. However, even with a flip shot, when the ball leaves his hand, his chest should be square to the basket. It isn’t and his flip shots have been going wide right with his right hand and wide left with his left hand. He’s rushing his shots to avoid getting it blocked. He doesn’t need to rush.
