The new revenue share of $20.5 million that can be divided up to all approximately 550 student athletes at BYU could be spread evenly of about $37,000 per student athlete. Should it be divided equally? It doesn’t have to be.
Since college athletes are now professional athletes. the ones who have the most value should be paid the most. College sports are now a business and since that is now the case college should be run like a business. Female athletes should get very little because they don’t generate any revenue. In fact I would guess that football and men’s basketball generate by far the most revenue and without those two sports very few schools could afford to field women’s teams. I am sure that many progressive types would be appalled at my views on this but in the words of Ben Shapiro “facts don’t care about feelings.”
I wonder if Title IX will have any effect on what women are paid?
given that the NIL of football and basketball players is probably higher than the 37k figure stated, I think it should be divided equally between the athletes of the non-revenue sports.
There are a lot of football players that aren’t making NIL money. I’d like to see those who aren’t earn some money besides scholarships. This $20.5 million is coming from revenue mostly from football and now from basketball (men’s) make sure those not benefiting from NIL receive this first. Then the rest. But be equal (title IX).
When NIL first started, BYU announced that every football player was going to get some $$$$. Even the non scholarship players.
they were the first university to something where all players got something.
