AJ Debantza's crazy jump

BYU freshman phenom AJ Dybantsa has the craziest vertical leap ever - Yahoo Sports

here they speculate him jump. Here is the same jump but with exact lenghts attached

It was only a 41” leap. He needs to work on this. Saw a video and Staton swatted his layup.

Haha, you’re hilarious.

Let’s see your Staton swatting video.

It was on BYUSN yesterday

I am curious that all the listed heights were from the new players on the team, except for Keita.

The two five star players had the highest jumps listed.

AJ’s shoulders appear to be higher than the rim, easier to see of course in the video version…

Dozens of outlets have covered this story in some way…

Rothstein put AJ on the Big 12 first team and left off Richie….hmmmm

AJ is being mentioned more often as the number 1 draft propspect than as a national player of the year candidate.

Chip on the team shoulder time Houston and Texas Tech not BYU ?

BYU is getting little love both in football and bball. Both teams went far in their post season play. both teams have very good recruiting numbers and…….(if Retzlaff were still here, they would still hose BYU)

I LOVE that we fly under the radar every single year.

Think about this for a moment. There are players on BYU’s team that could be bench players that get drafted into the NBA. Think about that for a moment. Those are Duke/NC type scenarios.

Mark Eaton was a bench UCLA player-who became a HOFer

KY does love his NBA talent…just hoping that in the next while it results in more recruiting wins.

an interesting take on why or why not AJ will do well in his future.

AJ has Jorden type skills, let that sink in!

What he may or may not have is the Jorden Alfa killer instinct. I have seen him enough to know that he expects to win every game he enters. If he decides to go at the hoop, you can foul him but he is going with you or without you. Best players in the world could not stop him, Doubt the big 12 forwards will be able to unless they allow the grabbing, hacking. Going to be a crazy ride this year.

One guy to watch, Mboup, I could see KY running a Wright-Saunders-Dybantza-double centers of Keiba/Mboup or even Staton/Mboup. Can’t stop Wright or Dybantza from getting to the hoop, if the other team doubles, ally oop to the centers or a wide open kick out 3….the ol Gonzaga play but with 2 ball handlers.

yes the early summer talk from KY was much about Mboup, then Moo Davis shows up, and Diamante, and well deep and talented team.

I wouldn’t be surprised with another ten-man deep rotation.

and everybody has ideas…only consistency beyond the starters is inconsistency

was just listening to Andy Katz interview with KY….Ky mentioned that when AJ committed they purposefully backed off on their recruiting to restructure it in support of choosing to build the team around AJ…still seems like a bit of a mistake to me, unlike the NBA program continuity is important and building around a one year, once in a generation player seems a bit shortsighted.

OK stated too strongly, it is a big gamble, that could take years to recover from if it doesn’t work out.

Rob Wright, Xavion, Diamonte, Mboup, Davis, maybe stick around for a recovery year for a base to build on…but in the transfer era…gamble every year?

There are many others on this team that are 5 and 5 star players. I’m sure coach will be able to have a great team after AJ. Who knows, maybe he’s got another top recruit possibly coming in next year too.

Whoa I go to these practices and when Kevin Young came on board last year, I watched what he did with the players in the practices and how it translated to on the court. First thing I can tell you is Kevin Young looks for Harmony, guys in the flow, not looking for their own stats, but to get in the team flow Where everybody is involved that’s how you blow teams off the court offensively number two Kevin Young was a wizard last year identifying each individual players talent and getting more out of the players. Now he has seven players that are new to the team that have as much or more talent than our best player Richie Saunders last year. The only team that I would be in fear of losing to would be a senior Ladden team like South Dakota State, where they’re all grad students and they played together for five years and they’re fearless. Those kind . The only team that I would be in fear of losing to would be a senior Ladden team like South Dakota State, where they’re all grad students and they played together for five years and their fearless. Those kind of guys could knock off the best team in the entire country. I will say this last year I wanted Byu to be about a number five seed in the big 12 when we ended up being number two this team this year should challenge for the championship right from day one the only other team that can out play, Byu is the number one rated team in the entire country again Houston Everybody else we will be as good as or better except for maybe Arizona is pretty good.

Catchings seems a bit of a counter-example, he was willing to be a team player so long as he was playing. After the Baylor game and he sat his mindset just seemed to me to have switched…like he finally earned his minutes in his mind but KY didn’t agree so just get this season overwith so I can get out of here. Wish him well, hopefully his sophomore season goes better for him than his freshman year.

That’s a statement.

Athletically I am certain it is true.

And KY, with his NBA roots, certainly is betting on it.

From my perspective, not being an NBA fan, or even ever watching it, the focus on talent as opposed to current capability is a major difference between the pros and the college game.

The college game is much more short term, what can you do right now, not what can you become 5 years from now, while we pay you ungodly amounts of money to incentivize you to fulfill your potential.

Your interaction with the team and actual eyes on means you are likely a better prognosticator…hope you are right…

thinks BYU’s offensive talent is almost unmatched…I think with the new talent he is underestimating the defensive potential of the team…So with the second best offensive and a close to top ten defense…things are definitely looking up.
