Another top prospect, Michael Simcoe

Sure feels like BYU has become a destination for blue chippers

BYU Basketball Makes Top 7 for 2025 Forward Michael Simcoe (msn.com)

This guy is a 6’8 Richie Saunders

Interesting take on him
2023 Tarkanian Classic Takeaways (madehoops.com)

Looking around the recruiting site he seems to have kept a low profile which makes me wonder if he did it on purpose or if other’s opinions of him were less.

Given KY’s connection to HS recruiting this may be a steal.

what 3 days in a summer camp can do for your stock!

This all feels like a dream. We lose Pope, we see our core players decommit. Some noted that it would set BYU back years. Hall gone, Saunders gone, Robinson gone. No point guard, no future.

Enter KY
Hall and Saunders come back
Enter two top 10 recruits Bemim and Catchings, Bemin can run the point @ 6’8, yikes
To be honest, BYU would of been middle of the pack in the big12 with just the core players from last year. Hall, Saunders, Baker, Foos, Knell
Then comes Keba, hyper active inside- Center spot is solid
Mawot Mag, defensive player of the year in the ACC
Catchings a true NBA stretch 4
And the jewel, Bemin, can play 1-4.
Not to mention 4 star Elijah Crawford, who might have to sit because I see Bemin switching to point when Hill needs a breather.

Lets see teams keep up with our small ball of Hall, Saunders, Egor, Catchings and Mag.

Or our big lineup of Egor, Saunders, Catchings, Mag and Keba or Foos.

Ky got a lot to work with.

Well, here is another “possible” player:

AJ Dybantsa recruiting: Who made the nation’s No. 1 recruit’s top 7? – Deseret News

BYU has been in the top 5 for Dybantsa since day 1. He is playing down the road by St George. BYU made sure his parents came to see the campus before he ever set foot in Provo.

It really boils down to how far BYU dances and if our One and Dones get high draft picks. If both tings happen, the flood gates open and BYU becomes a true destination.

BYU Basketball Makes the Cut for Four-Star Ryder Frost (msn.com)

prolific shooter, Can attack the rim.
Frost is one of a handful of high-profile recruits that the BYU basketball program is recruiting in the 2025 recruiting class. Of the 11 recruits that hold offers from BYU (per 247Sports), 4 of the 11 are five-star recruits and the rest are four-star recruits.

Just watched film of these two:

Frost: LASER quick release. WOW can that kid chuck it or what?

Simcoe: much better looking body than most 6’8” twigs in HS. That kid can move people and looks REALLY crafty getting his shot off in the paint. Super good handle and ability to score off the bounce for a kid with his powerful build. Can also shoot it with confidence from deep. The analyst described his intensity on the court as “psycho”. Sign me up.

OK, to get real for just a second.
Egor is the highest rated recruit bYU has ever gotten including Bradley, ( he was a true Fr.) Egor has played vs. pros. Saw his interview on BYU tv. two things…he wanted a safe place (1) to play against college players, not thick veteran pros like real madred league. he is smart, knows that vs. college players he will not look skinny or over powered.
3rd point. and this is for you, Jim and every fan that seeks knowledge from my posts.

KY recruited Demin on the promise he would play as many positions as possible 1-4 or even the 5. NBA prospect that can play point- strong forward in the NBA, think about it. (personally, I see him as an all star point in the league.

BYU was a middle of the pack Big 12 team with it’s leftover core of Hill, Saunders, Foos Baker etc. We were dancing with that group. KY added a rim rocker agile center in Keba (who will start over unstoppable Foos) think about it…added ACC defensive POTY Mag…added scoring machine, 6’9 Catchings…and Demin.

Not to be overlooked. KY’s defense is so simple it’s stupid. on pics, just slide on over to the next guy. You will see KY run BYU just like an NBA team. Who wouldn’t want to play for a winning program that preps you for the NBA??? Feels like BYU is already a destination…aia Gonzaga, Duke KU program.

I got a kick out of that. I’d say true when it comes to basketball. Quite knowledgeable. Not so when it comes to politics and Trump…
This season should be very interesting as other teams are also stocking up with some good players as well.

When he first signed there were some statements I was surprised to see. Seemed like paraphrases of what his parents had said. The implication was that he might be here for more than a year because he was concerned about playing the thick veteran pros and wanted to be able to compete at the highest level while he was developing the body to compete with the pros.

Maybe pipe dream of mine, but the number of one and done’s that leaped too quickly for the NBA before their body was ready is legion. The G league and Europe are littered with one and dones who had the talent but not the body (think Frank Jackson)…which is what Demin seems to want to avoid.
