To me it look like he started to run and then realize the ball was coming at him and so he was just trying to get out of the way

Run where. He jumped to the right. Catch the ball.
He didn’t realize it was going to be an onside kick. so he was running where his assignment told him to go for the kickoff. Not saying it wasn’t a mistake I’m just explained to you what probably happened
