Big 12 football power rankings as 2025 spring practice begins
Hmmmmm, KStU #1, don’t think so.
Personally, I have BYU 1st but we will see if Ratzaiff can make that happen

In the article’s comment about BYU it says the receivers are untested. What? The only wide receiver who may be gone is Lassiter if he isn’t granted another year by the NCAA. Epps left via the portal but he never played the entire 2nd half of the season. So I am not sure what the author is talking about. BYU lost the 4 top tight ends, two to graduation, one to a mission, and one to the portal but they didn’t throw much to the tight ends last year. I guess maybe Erickson was really the #4 tight end because Bowers never really played for some reason. Ryan coming over from Utah is probably as good as anybody the Y had last year so the receiving group should be great.
Even if Lassiter can’t come back there is Roberts, Marion, Kingston, Phillips, and Hagen at wide receiver. That is a really good group.
Not too long ago, DNews wrote that Lassiter looked like he would get one more year…they went on to say that It was not necessarily the best thing as there were a lot of talented younger guys. Soooooo… Prett y sure WR is a strong point to BYU’s 2026 year, as you point out.
I am not sure what some people are thinking when they write things. I saw somebody comment on a Dnews article the other day about BYUs defense that the reason they sometimes struggled to stop the run was because of a lack of speed at linebacker. The linebackers, as a group, are as fast as any BYU has ever had. Maybe the fastest. The LBs weren’t the problem when teams ran the ball well. I think it was the front four and the pass D was so good last year that the run D looked ordinary in comparison but it was actually above average in my opinion.
100% agree. BYU had extremely fast LBs.
The D carried BYU all year long. Our offense was good at times especially when Retzlaff was under control. And again this year, BYU will be great on D, if Retzlaff gets his head right, I have BYU playing in the playoffs.
If you believe what Nixon and Logan on SN Pregame shows, they mentioned that the reason for some of the big runs was that the LBer’s either missed an assignment or was sucked into the play and was out of position.
Like I said, you can believe them or not, although both have experience as defensive players, so I would think they know what they are talking about.
They may have been out of position at times but they sure didn’t lack speed. In my opinion Glasker and Kelly are the best pair of outside linebackers at BYU since Curt Goveia and Leon White about 40 years ago. Both of them had fairly long NFL careers and both started on Super Bowl teams. I won’t say Glasker and Kelly are better than White and Goveia, but they are in that class and both could potentially have successful NFL careers.
BYU has had a lot of NFL linebackers; Glenn Redd, Todd Shell, Kyle Whittingham, White, Goveia, Bryan Kehl, Nixon, Van Noy, and Fred Warner. Maybe a few others. Nixon and Whittingham were marginal
NFL payers but all the rest were starters for at least a year or two and some for a lot of years. That said I think the current group, as a group, including Taggert and the backups may be the best group ever.
I tutored Leon White in Geology. That team was stacked.
I have mentioned Kelly several times a game, about how he can cover ground and sack WRs and running backs, like the fastest players. Dude is NFL quick…Glasker is just plain a football freak, always around the ball
These LBs are as good as BYU has ever seen, including Warner and Van Noy
So back to my thinking:
BYU is set on O talent, QB, Receivers, RBacks all good. Don’t know about the line.
BYU is set on D talent, LBs and DBs are good, maybe better then last season. Don’t know about the line…See what I did
But at the end of the day
I can’t go with ASU, who won it all, Skattaboo is gone
Can’t go with KSU, Johnson is too much like our Retzlaff, gets a little wonky.
I could go on but to me, BYU should of been Big 12 champs last season, I think there was less then 7 points between 3 losses and I think this season, BYU will be better so Who are these goofballs putting BYU 6-7th?
