1 Well, for all those people that were concerned about Byu number six versus number 11 VCU before the game I said they have one incredible point guard Shulga. Put mag on him. Check.
2 I said they run five senior 4 guards and one forward that weighs 215 pounds at 6 foot nine. Now, how in the world was VCU going to guard our 260 pound centers? Answer they didn’t and that was the ball game.
3 Byu has A top five rated bench We are built to have a deep run. Perfect example of last year versus this year there was no let off when we went to the bench. In fact we increased our leads.
4 Byu out rebounded VCU by nine boards. And both teams came out about even on turnovers so huge advantage Byu.
5 Obviously, there was a giant disparity in free throws because of the use lack of penetration. They got in a pickle because after their five starters, their drop off is quite steep so when their guys got in foul trouble, they had no answer.
6 Demin played like he doesn’t wanna come back next year. He wants to get drafted
The Wisconsin game will be completely different. They will try to get to the rim often. Byu got to rebound the heck out of the ball.
Well, Shulga got hot in the second half from 3’s. Including a tipped shot by Hall and nothing but net. We didn’t do well against the 3 in the 2nd half. We need to on Saturday.
They had one from the bench that scored 23. That hurt. We seem to make all pros out of bench players.
Demin gets winded often and throws weak passes. He needs another year.
I don’t let officiating affect my enjoyment of watching and analyzing the game. I expect the players to adjust and expect missed calls and bad calls just as I would expect the players to adjust to bad decisions from them on the court. I see occasional mistakes by the officials. But, we shot many more free throws than VCU did so no complaints from the peanut gallery.
Did you understand my comment at all?
I thought the rough play not being called was weird when the fouls that were called were incidental bumping. it’s just kind of weird that it was reverse foul calling, is all I am saying.
You’re going to have to give some examples of what you mean by “rough” play. I thought some of the bumping could have been called on both teams. What I don’t want to see is a parade to the FT line by both teams. I like the bigs being able to bang a bit. Gives Foos a big edge.
The only example I can remember is when Hall went in for a shot and basically got hit checked into the seats by VCU player “No call”, but when Saunders was guarding the VCU players and slightly bump him, they called a “charging foul” on him.
You need to rewatch the game to see what I am talking about… Just kind of weird what they called vs what they didn’t call.
The fact that BYU shot 19-26 to VCU’s 6-8 on paper looks like officiating was unfair to VCU, the tell of the tape, VCU couldn’t get looks inside, they were way too small. BYU was very un BYUish in that we fed the ball inside all night and did not need to depend on our threes to win
I too caught that. Refs let them play but then there were those touch calls
I loved how Coach KY substituted throughout. Love Baker’s tenacious play.
The Hopper doesn’t catch much of what is going on regarding officiating because, in his words,
He doesn’t think officiating has anything to do with the game even though it is a huge part of the game. He never has understood it and likely never will.
Reading comprehension challenges again. I said I don’t let officiating affect my enjoying the game like you do. As a coach, you have to adjust and win regardless. If they don’t a coach won’t last long coaching. It’s part of the game.
