BYU is in the Big12 Championship Game

That is the model Yormark proposed and pretty much got laughed at. It is a fair model. Someone also said that SEC teams refuse to schedule ACC or Big 12 teams, they’ll get a AAC team, not Memphis but someone they can score 60 on and still have it rated a good G4 score. The Disaster of Alabama’s year was not the 3 losses, it was, we screwed up by scheduling Fl St. SEC is not the dominate conterence, not like past, NIL is creating stud teams, like TTU and emerging BYU, that can knock off a Bama or Geargia, and they don’t like it, won’t allow it. ESPN created this monster and I think they are regretting all the blow back from the other 200 schools who feel locked out.

Typical narcissist. You pick on the idea that G4 conference champions should not get in. Why do you think they should? But that’s not your problem. Your problem is you take my statement about the committee saying they won’t penalize the loser for playing in their league’s championship games, and that the two teams playing in each championship of P4 conferences should be automatic bids, and make it your genius statement. You do this all the time.

Someone in Facebook pointed out something interesting. TTU has been in a power conference for 30 years making their first appearance in a championship game. They spent 28 million dollars on their roster. BYU spent only $10 million dollars on their roster and has only been in a power conference for 3 years. So, let’s not hang our heads. We are doing pretty good at this point. Oh, and that’s with Arod as OC.

That’s why I made the comment I did about your potential going forward. We only spent 3 million less on our D-line then you guys did on your whole team and you still put together an 11 win season. I really respect ya’lls coaching staff a lot for what they have done since joining because as you mentioned we have never had this kind of success in all our years of the Big 12 until this year. Even then it took going all in with NIL. It’s been a long and frustrating road as a Tech fan to finally get to enjoy something like that.

You really weren’t supposed to compete with the level of talent we acquired. But, level that talent out which is what it sounds as though Sitaki demanded in order to stay and you guys will be a real problem. I look at your fans a lot like us in regards to how much we support the program no matter what. So, I think having these two programs be the two headed monster in this new Big 12 could be pretty awesome and maybe start a fun new rivalry.

Excellent post. The committee has to decide if there is a point or not for conferences to have a Championship game between the top 2 teams for the right of the bye week. If not, don’t play it. There will be loss of revenue but BYU would have been better off declining to play in it. So would Alabama.

I’m not as concerned with that at this point as I am with another issue. This is my question -

Does anyone know how many plays the BYU offense has in their playbook? It seems to me that there are about 8-10 plays that get called every game along with a couple of joke trick plays that work about 1 out of 10 times. From my perspective that is it. I’m thinking there are more but I just don’t see them being used… at all.

The reason a defense like Texas Tech can dominate us is because our offense makes it easy for them. It is almost as if they know what is coming. After that first series it was like the D coordinator for Tech said “okay, we know what they are planning on doing… they are going to use the same basic plays they used against us the first time we played so this will be easy.” When Tech players are running to a spot before the play even gets going or they are dropping into a passing area before the receiver runs his route or when they are busting through the line right to the spot before the QB turns to hand the ball off… it appears that they know exactly what is being called, what is coming and how to defend it before the play even happens. Our offense and its’ inability to do anything different except try to call some rinky dink trick play on occasion is a liability against a good defense that knows what is coming.

As far as your question, if we know they know, why was the defender not blocked on that play. Why does TTU get the tipped passes for interceptions and we were unable to? Why was Bear in the game with a badly sprained ankle? A more mobile QB would have given Arod more options. Yes, he’s short. But he also can pass good when on the move. He did well at Utah State. Sitaki has the money for his coaches. Now he has to decide if those coaches are making right decisions. I mean, why jeopardize Bear’s career by really doing major damage to his ankle?

The thing that’s frustrating me is that right now the ACC is about to get three teams in. Who’s the third you ask, Notre Dame. They play an ACC schedule let’s stop lying that they’re not a part of the ACC. So why can the Big 12 only get one team in? I think it’s ridiculous once again the ACC is pushing us out with the worst team. Don’t forget last year SMU got in over us even though we beat them. Now eight and five and a 10 and two team are going to make it in over us? this is ridiculous. It’s not just us that’s getting disrespected it’s the entire Big 12. We should have at least two teams in. I know there’s some people on here who say we wouldn’t even make it past the first round, but that’s not the point because we know that Alabama Miami and Duke aren’t going to make it past the first round but they’re going to be in it. So why not us. It’s ridiculous to think that we are not worthy and any fan who says that isn’t a fan or at the very least doesn’t understand the point.

Sorry for the rant but I just listened to lock on cougars and he basically said we don’t deserve to get in and it just pissed me off. So any of you who say we shouldn’t be getting in I’ll be going the rounds with you.

Well it looks like great minds think alike

This involves big money. And until the Big12 decides they have had enough and takes this to court and politicizes this, nothing will change. TTU will continue to get $28 million to use on their roster and we will not be close to that. Neither will any other Big12 team.

The Committee needs to be reworked to where it’s made up of an unbiased group. How that works will need some real thinking involved. The money makes this a reality that courts and politicians have to become involved. I’m all for IA to decide based on real unbiased parameters.

The ACC champ Duke will not be in because the rule is the 5 highest ranked conference champions make it. That would be the Big Ten, SEC, Big Twelve, AAC, Sun Belt. Those are the five highest rated conference champs. They are locks based on the committee rules. Duke will not be invited.

Here are teams that will get in. I can almost promise you:

Indiana - automatic conference champs

Ohio State - at large

Georgia - auto

Texas Tech - auto

Mississippi - at large

Oregon - at large

Texas A&M - at large

Oklahoma - at large

Notre Dame - at large

Miami or Alabama - at large

Tulane - auto

James Madison - auto

There is no rule compelling the committee to take a team from the ACC. Remember the rule is the five highest ranked conference champions. We will see if the committee decides to shaft James Madison by putting Duke ahead of James Madison in their rankings. That is the only way Duke gets in.There is no way Duke makes the top twenty five. They were 8-5 in the fourth best conference of the power 4 conferences.

Either Alabama or Miami gets left out, or possibly Notre Dame. Alabama should be left out. If Miami gets left out they will scream bloody murder and so will the ACC because that would leave them with no teams in the playoff. That would make me happy, but maybe not as happy as Alabama getting left out.

We can cry about not being in the mix because we had no losses to unranked teams and our only losses were to a top 4 team and we beat two ranked teams. It won’t matter that our resume is as good or better, than Miami, Notre Dame, Alabama, or even Oklahoma, we aren’t getting in. For us to get in we had to beat Tech or lose the game in which we looked equal to Tech and then it still probably wouldn’t have mattered.

I can also tell with a degree of certainty that the four teams drawing first round byes are Indiana, Ohio State, Georgia, and Tech.

Just enjoy the selection show to watch one of the blue bloods cry about being left out and Tulane and James Madison getting in. The CFP is owned by the SEC and ESPN and they made their stupid rules and now they are going to have to try to justify Alabama over Miami and leaving the ACC out in the cold.

I am typing S l o w l y so you will understand: The things i said, that you are calling me narcissistic on was me quoting Nick Saban, I even said, “Nike Saban said the following”.

Scott, you run your mouth without reading comprehension. If I say something, I back it up with the source or I say, This is my opinion or just “me”. Here’s a question for you: Does a Narssicist know when he is being a Dic!k or does he just think everyone else is wrong?

here’s the article: Nick Saban calls for the establishment of a college football commissioner

I don’t know why I’m shocked a 3 loss Alabama team is in but I am. That’s a freaking joke. Their biggest win just got negated by getting absolutely blown out by that same team and they still have a terrible loss to Florida St that apparently doesn’t matter anymore on top of being the only team to ever make the playoffs with 3 losses. I didn’t take into account initially that maybe the committee/TV networks also wanted to send a message to Notre Dame to join a conference now.

well written from start to finish, 100% right. 2 thoughts: CFP rankings: Does Alabama, Notre Dame, Miami or BYU have best resume? - al.com (this is not AI, artificial Intelligence, this is Alabama.c om.

Alabama has a terrible loss, BYU lost to #4 twice. BYU beats alabama in every single data point….in fact, BYU stomps ND, and Miami. so it must be the eye test.

2- the eye test and the only data I have to agree on: BYU did not show up in either TTU game. I have to say, not being able to move the ball at all on TTU says to me, they have a point. Everyone has bad games, BYU had 2, both on national TV. If BYU had been able to move the ball and score, we would not be having this convo.

then again, If any team goes up against TTU’s defense, I predict they will find out what we found out.

Sorry guys, I rambled on above, but I understand the CFP has fine print rules that says they can consider things like injured players and coaching changes in making selections. I don’t think this would affect automatic selections.

I would like to see Notre Dame forced to join a conference or being penalized by the committee for not having the risk of playing a 13th game for a conference championship and enough of this highest ranked conference champions nonsense. Even better would be to expand the playoff to 32 teams and all conference champions get invited including the G5 champs and fill in the rest of the field with at large teams. You get rid of the conference championship games and go back to an 11 game schedule to account for the lengthy playoff schedule. That would make sense and be a fair system. If I could mandate the above I would do it. You can be thankful I don’t have that kind of power.

Exactly right. BYU knew the rules going in and didn’t accomplish what they needed to accomplish.

They still had a great season. Beat six bowl teams, ECU, Utah, Arizona, ISU, Cincinnati, and TCU, The projected bowl match up is USC from what I understand. Should be a ranked team regardless. Win the bowl game and it is a 12-2 season and probable top ten finish.

As I was posting I hadn’t noted Notre Dame was out. I guess it made sense between them and Miami since they beat Miami. I frankly think Alabama should have been left out. I think BYU had as Google, or better argument than any of them but i knew they were out.

This’ll be a little strange, but about a week and a half ago I either had a dream or was in that almost asleep zone and dreamt we played USC in a bowl game and beat them like 55 to 13.

We’ll see if I have any Lehi DNA in me.

Nice try. Doesn’t fly. More evidence. Now, onto basketball where we are mostly in agreement

Yep! 100% Alabama should be out. And James Madison? You have to be kidding! Travesty!
