BYU is in the Big12 Championship Game

@Raider_power you’re not wrong from your perspective our offense ran into a buzz saw today. The problem is is that you haven’t been around the program for years watching him make horrible calls and then our defense has to step up to save us. He’s a good OC but he’s not good enough to help us get to the next level. Think where you would be if you still had your old defensive coordinator. Even if you brought the talent that you currently have in, but had your old defensive coordinator you wouldn’t be as good. That’s where we’re at right now, we have the talent but not the OC that can take us to the next level

Love this response from Kalani today. Especially the end where you says we should at least be in the graphic. ESPN is such a joke and a shield for the SEC

I would always complain about Kittley before Mac came in this year even though we were one of the top offenses under him. There was probably a 50-50 split amongst Tech fans who thought he was either great or those that wanted him fired. I was the biggest fire Kittley guy and didn’t care what stats you showed me because I watched enough games to know he just couldn’t be counted on to produce a good gameplan week to week and would personally cost you at least a couple games a year. Sometimes winning and losing or even stats don’t tell the whole story so I think I understand it now after reading your post.

We are not a playoff caliber team yet. At least not one that is any threat to win it all at this point. We have a very good team. Probably a top 15 team, but Tech proved twice this year that we have work to do to take the next step. We had a great recruiting class and need to sign some top players out of the portal. RB position needs to be rebuilt. I suspect Martin declares for the draft.

BYU has the resources now to keep a top coaching staff on board and get some top portal transfers with NIL funds.I am not as down on ARod as some here but BYU can afford an upgrade. Why not try to poach Jason Beck from Utah. He played for BYU and they averaged over 40+ per game.

I’d be lying if I told you guys I wasn’t worried about ya’lls potential in this conference now that Sitaki is committed and he’s going to be guaranteed at least closer to the same level resources as Tech had this year. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if this ends up being the least talented team ya’ll field for years to come. It also wouldn’t shock me if your basketball team won the conference this year either. I still wouldn’t trade places as a Tech fan with BYU because I’m biased but if I was any other fan in the conference I would in a heart beat.

Told my tech friend that tech and byu will be the flagship athletic leaders in the Big12 for a long time.

Oil money and cookie money!!

kind words, Raider. The big 12 was getting disrespected in BBall, they pushing Alabama and Purdue on everyone. ISU gave Purdue the biggest beatdown of a #1 team in forever today. Houston may well be the best in all the land, ISU just threw their hat into the ring and Arizona is working on beating it’s 4th ranked team tonight. and BYU has possibly the best 5 starters of all but has injuries and bench drought, so as if today, I would have it 1 AZ, 2 Houston, 3 ISU, 4 BYU, 5 TTU.

meanwhile, Bama lost big to Georgia and they are saying that even with it’s 3rd loss, bama is in. These guys don’t even try to hide the $$$ grab. This CFP has got to go. all I ask is that you guys sweep the field and bring home the trophy. I want every and any team outside of the SEC to win.

To Kalani’s point

georgia is to Alabama as tech is to byu.

Great defense against subpar offense.

So why will bama with 3 losses get in vs 2 loss byu?

You know the answer.

Every team outside of the the SEC and Notre Dame, you mean. They are part of the cabal, too. They always play a weak schedule, with at least 8 home games. And they owes us, what, two games in Provo? I wish we had insisted on the penalty money for reneging.

Sometimes you just get beat by a better team and that was today! Football is generally won on the offensive and defensive lines and Texas Tech was superior, so some of that NIL money TT spent on their defensive line-take a hint BYU. I’m not going to be so short minded to criticize coaches. They didn’t fumble the ball away or throw picks. Bear Bachmeir had a “freshman game”, but what a season he had. A lot of missed tackles on defense, but the defense was stellar most of the season. BYU needs an upgrade on their receiver corps-they were better last year, more speed, better hands. I’m wondering whether a 3 loss Alabama team gets in-I hope not. Play calling was abysmal most of the game, but what do you call against a great defense? I know you probably don’t call 4th down pass plays in your own back yard! Déjà vu

  1. When we had 3rd and 10 and Arod didn’t even TRY to push the ball I saw what I already knew: he has no courage. It’s that simple. We threw downfield ONE time (and got a PI call). We targeted Roberts to open the game and then threw him a little stick route later but Arod IGNORED our greatest talent and did it all year.
  2. TTU is awesome. But our O turned the ball over FIVE TIMES IN A ROW AND SIX TIMES INSIDE OUR OWN 40. That was the most pathetic, gutless effort ever. Bear was terrible. But he has an OC who thinks it’s ok to play from behind and not put ANY pressure on a great defense. Sickening.
  3. Our D is awesome. They shoulder ZERO blame for either TTU loss. Ask the guys on Tech and they would say the same.
  4. Now, if only we had two losses to unranked teams and didn’t make the CCG, we would have as good a shot as Miami does.
  5. I’ve been saying it for years: Arod is average. Period. He shrivels and disappears against elite teams. There is no reason BYU should be getting embarrassed like this. Somebody else said that we can’t be a consistent top 10 program with Arod, and he was right. We have playoff caliber players on both sides of the ball, and playoff caliber coaching everywhere but our OC. The obvious weak link.

Alabama got drilled today. Alabama lost to dawg shizz FSU. Alabama now has 3 losses. This is what their coach said:

“If this game applies to and takes away from our resume, I don’t think that’s right,"

Sooooooo, I take it he would vote for BYU over his own team to make the playoff, right? It’s hysterical reading this stuff when the objective truth is that ESPN owns the franchise and tells the CFP who to vote for. Why else would ESPN actually have a rep on the CFP? It’s all just funny. Not worth complaining about. The NCAA negotiated with ESPN and sold ESPN the playoffs. A fair market, arms length transaction. ESPN owns the SEC and owns the CFP. It is what it is.

Fish - I will admit when I am wrong. I said that Bear isn’t a NFL quarterback- but he is a serviceable college QB. Also, you can’t judge an OC by the number of wins BYU has over 2 yrs and be accurate. Over the last 2 yrs our defense is responsible for at least 5-6 wins that our offense absolutely wouldn’t have won without a dominating defense. How many times do top 6 teams change OC’s when they lose 2-3 games a year? They do it all the time. We have to change our perspective and how long we ride with a guy (or woman) who doesn’t show enough skills to win it all. Our window is short …. ARid has been fired for not producing at other schools and BYU needs to upgrade or face the fact we won’t win a CFP game.

One simple thing to do is not let G4 teams and independents into the top 12. Also, the 2 teams that go to the conference championships are in. If the committee isn’t going to penalize a team for playing in a conference championship then don’t! Both go. Winner doesn’t play a play-in game while the loser plays in the play-in game. Simple.

Notre Dame is the only independent left, so that part of your solution doesn’t work.

They just ran that same graphic during the Duke game completely omitting BYU as a potential playoff team again and only showing Bama despite 3 losses now, with Notre Dame, and Miami. One of the announcers then said, “Unless you think there is anyone else that deserves consideration”. The other announcer then said, “No, definately not”, while chuckling and the other guy then agreeing. It’s honestly infuriating even to me watching the absolutely blatant bias taking place in regards to the lack of respect being given to the Big 12. I could probably make an argument not to include you guys over others (it wouldn’t be a good one but I could do it) but to act as though you have no place even in the discussion is just so completely ludicrous.

Now 2 Group of 5 teams are likely going to make the playoffs with Duke winning. The way these playoffs are working out this year shows it’s still a pretty broken system. The other option is including a 5 loss Duke from the worst Power 4 conference in the country which somehow feels even dumber to me. I bet this forces the committee to put Miami in now to ensure the ACC still has one team make the playoffs. That leaves only one more possible spot between ND, Bama, and BYU. I think they probably make the easiest option there and select ND.

I just don’t understand why teams that don’t get to play in their conference Championship game don’t get penalized, but the team that does, does get penalized. I just can’t square that up. Because Oklahoma probably would have gotten killed by Georgia, but yet there’s no penalty for them. It doesn’t matter if a committee decides or if it’s a computer dose human biased and error will be introduced, that’s why it just needs to be decided by the conference itself. Each P4 Conference gets two teams in how they decide this is up to them. I know what you’re saying well then the conference can be biased. Yes, but it’s a whole lot harder to be biased when there’s 12 teams then when there’s 70 teams. Plus the teams have a say in their conference whereas the teams don’t have a say in the cfp.

This is how I would do it. the four P4 conferences get two teams in. They decide who they are and how their placed. Meaning do they get a bye or don’t. The G5 gets one team, but they’ll never get a bye. Leaving three spots. with these three spots you go through the top 25 starting at number one, if that team is already in, because their conference chose them you move on to the next untell you get to a team that isn’t already in. But here’s the twist as you move on if that conference already has three teams in because they got an at-large team in then they get skipped and you move on to the next. You also tell Notre Dame you’re part of the ACC and if you are one of the at large teams that counts as the acc’s at large team. You do this until you get the next three teams in. Then every year the first and second round order rotates so that the same conferences aren’t playing each other every year and so that you don’t get two teams of the same conference playing each other in the second round.

So? Top two teams are in so the game doesn’t affect losing. Thats 8 teams. Then, the winner from the 2 G4 leagues. That’s 2 more. So far, 10 teams. The last 2 can be an independent and another SEC team. That’s 12. Easy.

Deal

I saw it before the season and warned everyone several times, BYU ended #13 and had Retzlaff stayed, we should of been #10-13 to begin the season, as it were, 2025, BYU did not crack the rankings until the Arizona game? That was game 6, so halfway into this season BYU finally cracked the top 25. Had the season been played the same, and BYU ranked as it should have been (don’t tell me about Bear is a freshman crap) BY our 6th game, BYU would of been ranked #6 or better and a LOCK going into the Big 12 finals.

Tom explained the Bama deal. BYU is better in every single data point but manybe who they played pre season, cause you can bet, they dinged us hard over Pt St as our 1st game.

I don’t know guys, I saw BYU inept to move the ball for the 2nd time vs. TTU, man are they good on D and they did about what they wanted on offence til they got inside of the 10, they fell apart (which is an easy fix) I think we just lost to the Nat. Champion twice now. I’ve seen every SEC team and OSU play. I think TTU is better.

Surely you are joking. The problem, and everyone is now talking, including Nick Sabon, “the CFP needs a commissioner, they need to rely less on the eye test, instead use head to head wins, road games vs home, and the League Finals, the loser should not be penalized. What Sabon is saying is, BYU played in the Big12 finals, we lost, Voters and the CFP should not penalize because all the other teams are done for the season except for bowl games.

In the end, This has been a miricle year, with a brand new baby faced Bear Bachmeier, we got 11 wins, None of us saw that coming. A lot to be grateful for and we should have a pretty good bowl.

Does anyone know who we play and what bowl yet?
