BYU vs. Baylor in Provo

That “In Provo” is a big deal…Both of these teams are lead by Verterans, Baylor has 3 Sr.s and 2 Fr. Starting.
Both teams also are very good at making 3s (at Utah, Baylor hit 37% outside) so BYU has to make things tough, like we did vs. Cinn.

Both teams are top 25 on O and top 40 on D (that includes the games BYU did not have the right starters…post Mag, BYU is playing at a top 25 clip on D.

Do not sleep on #15, Omier, 6’7 Sr does it all for Baylor…MAG!

We are not going to blow Baylor out, this will be a dog fight but I like BYU at Home.
First team over 70 (seems to be a theme in the big 12) get past 70, win the game.

A ticket to the game will cost you $65 so maybe it’s first team to 65 wins…

Tickets to a pro game are cheaper.

Depends who are playing. Lakers tickets go way up when Boston is in the house. I wonder what ticket prices are in other universities?

Purchased one the other day for considerably less…time sensitive ticket prices? Is BYU Athletics joining the 21st century?

Ya know, some people just have that look that they can be easily manipulated

May be correct. If that is true, shame on them. The real world is full of deceit, even evil I would suggest. What were the circumstances of your purchase? Did they announce the game as being sold out vs Cincinatti? If so, they were not being honest… but since when does that matter?

Tuesday’s BYU-Baylor clash is drawing hordes of NBA scouts – Deseret News
This game is a big deal. BYU has 0 quad 1 wins, Let’s get this!

Great win! Catchings is catching fire!

beating Baylor when they hit 46% from 3…nuts.
Catchings perfect game in front of a ton of scouts!
BYU hits 80% FTs. best win by a mile all year

It was more of a relief that they finally won a close game. Baylor has some great talent but still only a middle of the road Big 12 team at this point even though they have top tier talent.

Up until last night BYU had only beaten Big 12 bottom feeders and lost two winnable road games against lower mid level Big 12 teams, however, BYU has some great talent and might be turning the corner. Let’s see how they do in these next two road games. If the two freshmen, Demin and Catchings, keep improving it could end up being a very good season.

What I liked is there were solid contributions from 9 guys and it looks like Young has figured out his rotation. Guys seem to be settling into their roles.

It was a very good performance offensively. Excellent shooting pct, decent 3 point shooting, very good at the line and only 10 turnovers. Defensively the 3 point defense was bad. Rebounding was even overall but too many offensive rebounds by Baylor. Overall a very good win.

It seems like there are 14 teams that are all very close in talent. BYU and Baylor have a couple of talented freshman while most of the league has older talent, experience and have played longer together than BYU. It’s that experience and strength difference that puts Houston and Iowa State a bit higher because they already knew how to win close games.
And, Young is figuring out how to coach at the college level as a head coach. Although, when you have a player as hot as Catchings was last night, I’d have him in down the stretch in case the other team wants to foul a lot.

I still don’t understand why we get so lost allowing open 3 point shots. And, we don’t get out further so we don’t get caught going under the picks.

If I were a scout, not remotely, I have only ever watched a full NBA game once, I would not question Catching’s upside…but his two best games are when Auntie is in the house…head case worth million dollars of a bet? I would hesitate.
Catchings said the right things after the game, but it didn’t look like his heart was in the words.
Right now I would guess he goes one of two paths:

  1. transfer to a program who will give him guaranteed playing time, where maturity and playing will improve his defence and his NBA draft spot.
  2. go NBA draft land in lower 1st round or upper second round, take the money and gamble that he will be able to get his mental toughness issues handled.
That his mother spent years playing overseas, and the dedicated time with quality coaches with KYU, are the possibilities I see for him making the decision to stay with KYU and be a solid number 1 draft pick alongside AJ in 2026.

Of course, if he really has turned the corner, and he can play offence at near his best, while improving his defence, (Coach Linehan may make a difference?), he may prove me completely unfounded and get a solid first round pick this year and have a solid NBA career.

He is very known to be very shy. With that in mind, his way of conveying answers to questions is going to look like he may not mean what he says. But, he does mean those things he said. He’s not AJ at 18. Not many are. So, I can see both him and Demin sticking around one more year and get to play with two studs coming in along with several that will be back for next season and get lots of playing time.

There are a total of 200 minutes of playing time in a full game. 5 players on the floor playing a 40 minute game. If all of those players include 9 or 10 guys, somebody is going to miss out on getting lots of playing time. Who will it be? 10 players only get 20 minutes on average and I wouldn’t consider that “lots of playing time”. Just trying to point out the obvious things that you often forget to think about… sort of like in how professional sports is an entertainment business trying to maximize revenue and bring in as much money as possible… to the very point of being extremely greedy and having priorities completely misplaced.

Oh no, did I touch a nerve Mr. Capitalism?

Every sporting event, piano recital, dance team program, pee wee football, high school wrestling and every other form of activities is for entertainment. Doesn’t mean the games are fixed. There have been Super Bowls that had boring teams and not amongst the wealthy TV markets as well. This could have been the Bills and the Commanders. The game would still make enough money within the range they were figuring on. Sorry to burst your socialist equity bubble but capitalism has brought more people around the world out of poverty than any other form of economics. And, it is being done in college and professional sports. This isn’t WWF.

Twist and turn, put something into a box that fits your contrived perception of what someone else is saying. We have seen this so many times… it’s like clockwork.
