BYU vs. Idaho, final turnup before BYU plays real teams

One look at Idaho, they are full of Jrs and Srs so look for this game to be far more competitive vs. Queens, more like a Riverside game.

1 Idaho is undersized so BYU will take it inside with Keba/Foos/ Boskovic.

2 Hall will play, he needs time before our following game vs. Miss and Providence, who by the way will give us the first look at how KY will run his rotations.

3 Way too many open shots for Queens from 3…Laziness. Ky will tighten this up

odds say BYU 87-66.
I say BYU hits 90 and there will be a big push to NOT leave 3 point shooters open.

I felt like the defense was back in the last of the Rose years,… make sure you wave at the ball as it goes by from the wide open threes…especially in the last of the first half…
That they did tighten it up after the first few minutes of the second half was encouraging…but still not in the habit/mindset of playing shutdown defense…

The offense is encouraging…
but having spent time looking at BBN and IU offenses…encouraging is about as far as I can go at this point…

I have to disagree. This is, potentially, one of the best defenses BYU has had in years. They are bigger and quicker than I’ve seen in a while. Unfortunately, they have only been together a short while, but I expect KY and his assistants, to have the flaws worked out by next month. Defense is paramount to playing in the NBA, and that’s where a lot of these kids want to go. It’s really fun watching them, because their ceiling is sky high

Watching live and close to the action was a good opportunity to see some of the things we did on D and to be close enough to hear KY yelling out instructions. He worked on a lot of what I call “switch and swarm.” We will switch on almost everything all year, but often right after the switch on ball we would have the closest guy OFF BALL immediately swarm the ball handler, with the next guy switching to the player the swarmer left, and a weak side guy needing to rotate over. We were slow or confused on those rotations in the first half and gave up several open 3s on the back/weak side of the play. But the “swarm” was AWESOME on ball. Granted Queens was not great but their PG was a good ball handler and very quick but our guys are long and fast and the swarm just overwhelmed them over and over. Can’t wait to see it against higher level competition.
