- It was in the second half.
- most of his runs were off tackle or a sweep (where Robbins/Smith is more up the middle)
- LJ is better than Robbins and Smith…

My remark on the Officials is based on the fact that I officiated for several decades and even the TV announcer’s on FS1 made the same observations.
I give Sam Houston credit, their game plan was better than ours. plain and simple.
For instance, why did BYU decide to throw deep on first down in every series they had in the first half?
Then in the second half, they went with the run.
Lastly, as promoted for the past two months, AROD said “Each position is upgraded better than last year”. So, either he is clueless, or he is a liar, because that offensive line is far worse than last year O-line.
I will also give credit to the BYU defense, there was some issues, but I think they will work out eventually. I thought they played aggressive and smart. Robinson is a stud as well as the kid that transferred from Weber State I think (played corner). That dude lays the lumber down hard!
Lol -each position an upgrade? Yeh total hype. Don’t see it yet at QB or on the OL or the receiving corp. Maybe later, but not on Saturday
Didn’t Baylor lose? Go Barringtons.
Slovis scrambled few times. Slovis back shoulder throws were week. So we’re Halls the first couple games.
So, why was LJ able to hit the holes and gain 91 yards in the last quarter plus 5 minutes and the others didn’t? Line may have been okay except for the dumb penalties that stopped drives.
Also, the 50-50 balls we dropped. Hill and Epps would have caught them.
Anyways, we won. Go Cougars!
Unlike you, I don’t judge so quickly. They didn’t throw deep in every play either. We will be fine. Lots to work with.
Trevor Matich ripped the OL for its performance on Saturday. WAY too soft! Same thing happened last year. We’re not getting the most out of our players at the OL position in spite of the talent. Who is to blame? I’m not impressed by Darrell Funk. Yes, he played for Brady Hoke at San Diego State and then moved with him to Michigan for a few years until Hoke got fired. Since then, he has only stuck around 1 year for each team until landing at BYU in 2021. Roderick seemed to think it was great to get someone with 27 years of experience coaching the OL. But there may be a reason he hasn’t stuck for more than a year or two everywhere he has coached. Yes, sometimes there are changes at head coach and they bring their guys. But usually a good coach sticks around for a few years and even gets promoted to OC or even head coach if he’s talented. Maybe I’m being harsh but when our line is being described as soft, it makes me think its time for a coaching change. Ultimately, Roderick and Sitaki need to demand more of this position group so they both need to explain to fans why the OL is soft in my opinion. I’m curious what others think.
Reading comprehension issues again Scott?
I said " why did BYU decide to throw deep on first down in every series they had in the first half?"
Did you miss the part I said "FIRST HALF"?
Your right, it was not “Every” first down, it was 9 of 12 first downplays was passing.
"Roderick’s plan to throw on nine of 12 first half first downs backfired when most didn’t work and his offense faced second-and-10s or third-and-15s or 12s — simply bad positions for advancing. When he switched to running the ball on first down with Martin in the third quarter, his play calling had more success.

The reason LJ was moving is because AROD changed AFTER Half Time.
I agree with the lousy OL theory. How many times have we heard that the OL is the strength of the team …. Maybe best line we have ever had…… lots of talent. This line was way over sold again. Funk is not a OL genius at all. There is a reason he was available and it isn’t that BYU got lucky. He never gets promoted and he knows how to fit in well enough on a staff that he is able to keep jobs. But we probably found a legit DC for the first time in 8 years and we have yet to find a capable replacement for Grimes. ARod needs to go as does Funk.
Glenn you are correct!
Not sure if anyone else noticed, but there is a new rule that the clock continues to run, even after the first down is made. The clock will only stop on first downs when there is 2 minutes left in the half.
That may have been some of the issue with alignment or delay of games BYU had. Like the delay of game at the very beginning of the 3rd Quarter, which BYU had to take a time out for to avoid the penalty.
The NCAA says it takes too long to play the game (average game is about 3.5 hours I heard). If they want to speed up the game, there are other ways to do that. Besides, I think most fans don’t mind sitting for 4 hours enjoying their home team game.
Oh wait, it is all about TV and revenue, not fan experiences.
Thanks for the rule change info. I noticed they weren’t stopping the clock and wondered why. Cut the commercial time between extra points and kickoffs or change of possessions. The game seems to move faster when broadcast on BYUTV than on ESPN or FOX as of Saturday or it’s my imagination that has overwhelmed me🤔
I think it may be more assignment soundless that caused the softness. They didn’t know their jobs well enough or like they thought they did. SM was better than expected with some monsters up front. I think that is more what Matich was saying.
The assignment troubles were also with everyone except the freshman, Martin. So, was it Slovis fault for players running the wrong routes and missed blocks? I don’t think so. Unless Slovis wasn’t leading properly.
Ummm…they only scored once in the 2nd half too and that was in the 4th quarter. Need to look at other issues. It wasn’t only the OL missing their blocks and assignments. The receivers as well. The receivers were running wrong routes too. And when everyone did it right, one knucklehead would commit a stupid penalty. The coaches said in practice everyone was doing things correctly. The game is different than practice. But, in practice they will straighten out the challenges they had. Penalties and assignments. See what happens even without Hill or Epps.
Yep, it’s about everyone wanting the limelight in a P5 conference. Not just us either. So, of course it’s about the money. Fans are still showing up even though they lost their precious seats.
Eventually, it may get so bad people will stop spending the money on games and advertisements. Who knows. We are in a downward spiral as a society. In the meantime, it’s still college football. Go Cougars!
What I saw is they stop it to move the chains and start it back up right away. Have to watch reruns to see.
Here you go again…calm down! Geesh. Off with his head! See what happens Saturday. See if they get their assignments right and can be more physical.
How about that Grimes losing against a weak team at Baylor. Fire Grimes, Baylor!
BTW Cornhuskers will beat CU this week in Boulder. Big Red will put it all together and are more than ready for Primetime.

Didn’t they lose to a weak team last week?
Hopper and Fish
I have no dog in this fight, but question is, who is better, Minnesota or TCU. Gophers might be.
CU is SOOOO up that they will take all the accolades - media darlings of the week - and lay an egg in Boulder. TCU didn’t have a clue really about the 3 CU studs at this level. NU has a good defense and knows what they’re getting into. And NU travels well. NU can’t always be snakebit by a couple of points. (or can they…?)
NU 38 CU 35.
Ya gotta pick an upset now and then
