BYU vs. Wy, Sat @ Delta Center

1 Demin will sit out for a few more games

2 Wy, point guard, 6’3 Jr. Obi Agbim leads Wy in PPG 18, and Assists. He also leads the team in 3s made. 43%

3 BYU is a 92% to win and get this…18 point spread on ESPN. On KenPom the spread is 12 points and 87%???

Time for Catchings and Hall to have big games

They are saying Demin will mis Saturday but should be ready maybe for the next game. It’s precaution. Shouldn’t mess around with knee contusions.

Were “they” wearing their blue goggles when they said it? I want to make sure whether it was a biased comment or not.

They were stating BYU’s coaches and Demin. Unlike most in here they go to the source to ask questions. I do know contusions on legs are nothing to mess with. Bad things including cancer can happen if they aren’t allowed to heal.

1 Obi got 21, really was the only offense for Wy. Made tough shot after shot no matter who BYU put on him

2 Wy got a total of 9 assists for the game, not a typo. They have very little support for Obi

3 BYU’s 30 rebounds is the lowest total I have seen in years…Wy had 25 for the entire game, just a really bad team all around for D1.

4 Mag was the MVP for this game, he was lock down on D and hit 3-4 three point shots, they were pure high arching bullseyes. In my opinion, he has to play for BYU to win against ranked teams just because of his lock down defense. If he can continue to add double digit points, he’ll take minutes from 2 guys in particular…Boskovic for sure and Catchings. 5th year Sr. vs. a true Fr…no brainer

5 Richie Sanders bangs heads with Nesbitt and ends up with a split lip as well as a concussion. We did not miss his production because of Mag’s monster game and Mag should get big minutes in the next game as they will hold both Demin and Saunders out. Ought to tell us just how bad Wy was…we lose both starters (Demin and Saunders) and still blow Wy out by 19.

6 Shooting 45% from 3land from home makes BYU impossible to beat. Road games, we will have to find offense inside. Cue the Foos.

7 Knell was the only starter in double digits, continues to play out of his head…Mag and Baker also helped carry BYU…and that is the good thing about BYU basketball this year…We have talented bench guys that would start for any team.

8 BYU struggles big time when either Hall or Demin are not in the game. Love Baker’s game but he gets thrown in there at times with bench guys and the offense just dies. Baker’s game is to score, something he can create anytime he chooses but he is not in the class of Hall or Demin assist wise.

BYU has one more patsy before ASU on 12/31 and league play. Lots to work on.

The defence is scarry bad…worst in conference and it has been playing soft, soft teams.

The one thing that was truly hope inspiring from the Wyoming game was that Knell et al were shooting 3s so well away from the Mariott Center…

I will be shocked and happy if the team wins more than 7 games in conference. and manages to get a bid to the dance.
Improvement on the defence especially from 3-point land will be necessary.
Demin has so many NBA scouts gaga; if he can step it up on offence while keeping his defence as strong BYU has a chance.
Catchings defence staying strong while his offence improves would make a major contribution to a successful team in conference.
Mag was such a nice surprise on Saturday, his defence was at least as good as Catchings and his offence was revealing…more time in conference might well yield an improvement.

There are 10 home games…I expect BYU to win every single one. (the only game Ken Pom has BYU losing is home vs. Kansas), reality is that we will lose a couple but…I have been consistent through the years here on Cougarfan pointing out that it’s road games that determine Conference contenders (for both football, basketball and any other sport)
BYU plays road games @
Houston (Loss)
TCU (Win)
Utah (me-win, Ken Pon loss)
Colo (Win)
UCF (Win)
Cincy (Loss)
WVU (Loss)
Arizona (Loss)
ASU (me-Win, KP Loss)
ISU (Loss)
Road trips to Utah and late to ASU for me are indicators of if BYU is a 6 seed or better in the dance.

So for me, 12 conference games is very doable.

I agree loss at Houston
TCU is the third road game of the season…in a small gym against a team with defensive prowess…KP essentially has this a one point differential tossup…I agree winnable but winning on the road? this early?
Utah? maybe the crowd will be for the Cougs? rivalry game against a team that has a chip on their shoulder? once again KP has this essentially a tossup. I have seen no evidence that KY’s boys have a win mentality…yes the schedule hasn’t been amenable to such. I am open to something changing but realistically…no
Colo? another KP tossup…at some point KY and the boys may get it together and this I think is the most likely road win…
UCF has talent running out of their ears like BYU hasn’t put it together…long road trip second on the road in a row…not likely
Cincy (Loss)
WVU (Loss)
Arizona (Loss)
ASU the only positive surprise of the non-conference for the B12…so I have to agree with KP-Loss
ISU (Loss)

Obviously I mostly agree.
BYU’s wins in conference will mostly be at home.
Kansas, Cincinatti, Baylor, AZ likely losses maybe home court will make a difference?
Utah, WVU, KSU, OK State all likely wins

Texas Tech tossup
WVU tossup

the longer the season has gone, the worse this season looks
recruiting is great, the play on the floor has got to improve.

#3 about the rebounding happened because of the lack of shots because Whyoming slows the ball down. There just weren’t that many shots. And, we hit our shots. It’s why we only scored 69 points and Whyoming only 49 points.

I still liked the improvement of Crawford at the point as well.
