Thanks for providing Fernk. There’s a lot of fans in the stands! That’s a great sign.
Getting pretty amped up here. Going to be a great year.
This just in…..it’s Bear. Callin it
welcome back quarterback U
I think the last remaining question is will Bear be allowed to audible and check down plays that don’t seem to be the right call in game situations. I guarantee that will come up more than once during a game as ARod tries to do something gadgety or gimmicky that doesn’t make sense in that moment.
Obviously Arod’s experience and understanding is important to the team but dang man, can you just not get caught up in the gimmicky trickery when it makes no sense to do that? He is his own worst enemy with that play calling sometimes… just let the game develop and do what works. If it ain’t broke, don’t try and fix it with some gadget play. If he has so much confidence in Bear then allow the kid to be successful and play to his strengths.
Spot on!
Last year on third down conversion was the worst you think bear will fix that then yes let him play. And yes, he will win games which I knew he would be the starter for the season.
JCoug, you really want me to take off my blue googles and live in reality don’t you. I don’t want to think about the past, the future is so bright I have to wear blue shades. and then Dew you come in and remind me how bad we were on 3rd downs, and we really were, 37% isn’t even better the adequate.
I will say I think Bear is the best qb that he has ever coached. Most of the guys didn’t even have a rating coming out of high school except for zach and he was a low 3star recruit. so I hope Arod’s problem has been the quality of qb. but if I really take off the blue googles and star into the bright sun of reality. then that begs the question why hasn’t he been able to recruit these type of guys and why is it so hard for him to evaluate talent.
ugh this reality is to bright I’m putting my blue googles back on.
Where’s the Hopper? Haven’t seen him here in over a week. I know this is off topic, but you seem to be a friend of his and may may know why he hasn’t been around.
I stopped posting with all the spam in the forum. I see that it’s back to normal. So, I know you all miss my highly inspiring insightful commentary. I know Jim lives on every word of mine.
I predict we will go 12-0 and win the National Championship!

I am a fan of ARod’s gimmick plays. They have been far more successful then when Sitake was calling them (who can forget BYU going for it on 4th on the 8 yd line vs. BSU?)
Bear will be just fine. He now has a complete knowledge of the playbook and to be honest, that was the only thing stopping Bear from being the starter. He rooms with his brother Tiger and they quiz each other every night before bed time. Bear will be throwing to his brother, Tiger, more then any other receiver, mark it down!
Let me clarify that I am a BIG fan of gimmick plays but also a BIG critic of when and how ARod calls them MOST of the time. Not all of the time, just most of the time. Calling a quick throw to the outside from inside the 5 yard line when your offense has literally run the ball down the throat of the defense on a long drive is… IDIRODRIC!
The gimmick plays aren’t bad plays, just really bad when called at the wrong time. That’s what I’m saying.
Well now that you put it that way. I’m on board. The question is, how many fake punts will we have and how many fake kick offs?
I like the misdirection and trick plays. I think they stretch out the defense and keep them honest. I think ARod is a good OC - better than Grimes and others over the last 15 years. Detmer really surprised me at how much he struggled as an OC.
There was more to the story with Detmer. Yeah, he was the OC but he didn’t have a lot of say in what was going on out there. I will leave it at that and yes, I do have some insider information but will not divulge it…

Ugh. You are sand-bagging. But I get it. I have two close friends I get info from. One has a son who is a big time college QB, and the other has a son who is a 4 star TE in HS now. I would never divulge what I learn from either.
Detmer was made the OC but he was not given the chance to act like an OC. He did not get to choose his staff, An OC with his hands tied.
Ditto, wrote what I wrote before I saw that you had fleshed it out.
The decision to hire Detmer as offensive coordinator wasn’t Kalani’s—it came from Tom Holmoe, who wanted to bring in a “legend.” From what I’ve heard, Kalani was never fully on board with Detmer’s hiring, which might explain why Detmer didn’t get to choose his own position coaches. I also believe there was a philosophical clash: Detmer leaned toward a spread-option offense, while Kalani preferred a more physical, smash-mouth style—similar to Whittingham’s teams.
I’ve actually been in a similar spot myself. I was hired by a director, but my direct supervisor had someone else in mind—a friend she wanted to bring in. Navigating that tension was tough. The subtle digs, the passive-aggressive comments, the quiet resistance—it all added up. Eventually, I moved on to a better opportunity, and I’ve never regretted it.
yep, thanks for the info. I always thought that Detmer got a raw deal. He has proved in his HS coaching that he has what it takes but having hunted his ranch and seen his family life….I wouldn’t trade that for all the money and the bright lights of College Football
