BYU's team is set, who will be the starters?

Demin
Hall
Foos/Keba will Boskovic get time there? especially if Foos gets one of his injuries? TCU has Adam Stewart…back home in Texas can’t tell NIL or walk-on status…

200 minutes divided by 11 players is 18 minutes. NBA wannabes get to prove their worth, longer term, younger players Koz, Craw, probably get less than average, I still don’t completely understand why Stewart stuck around…though I am glad he did, I don’t see time on the floor this year any more than years past…
plenty of minutes to go around, . .

Dallin Hall talks week 1 practice for BYU Men’s Basketball on BYUSN (youtube.com)

Talkin ball with the floor general

1 Hall and everyone marvel at the russian rocket (there I came up with a nick name on the fly, as I do at times)

2 Hall, everyone is just plain better. both he and I know you all hate to hear it but Knell is still a team captain type guy are salivating at the thought of year 2 in the big 12.

3 Hall on who really impressed him so far:
Mawot Mag.
and Dawson Baker, funny these are two that I watched closely in practice.

Wanna talk about Baker for a sec. As all of you know, I value guys that can drive past their guy and cause problems for defense (nothing makes me crazier then 5 guys standing outside the 3 point line as in past BYU teams). Baker is a driver, shot creator. And when he drive and pulls up, he gets defenders on their back heels, then Baker leads with his elbow right into your face on his jumper. either gets fouled or clean look…either way, you as a defender are HATING IT…Hall knows because he has to defend that in practice.

I will have to wait until I actually see him play before I will give an opinion on Baker. Talk’s cheap.

Why hasn’t he played? Has he been injured?

Where have you been? Of course he’s been injured. He tried to play some last year and had to get some more work on the foot. But, he’s 100%. Hall was on BYUSN the other day and talked about him. There was a clip shown today on BYUSN of the basketball night last night. They showed two dunks from the dunk contest of Crawford and Chastings. Nothing like we’ve had before!

Stewart stuck around for lots of reasons.
He loves BYU.
He’s a devout LDS kid.
His dad works in the athletic department.
He’s smart and building business relationships that will pay him a lot longer than basketball will.
He truly loves the guys on his team.
He loves the ROC and the Marriott Center.
I could go on.

Whose that? Another player I haven’t heard of much?

Interesting spell check. Catchings. He did a through the leg to a slam dunk with little effort. Should see a lot of fun times.

Spell check only works for actual words. I don’t think it had you spell “chastings” as a real word because it doesn’t mean anything. Nice try spell binder. But the basketball part of your post is something nice to know.

everyone is trying to sypher who will be the 5 starters:
Did a starting 5 emerge in BYU’s Blue-White game Wednesday? – Deseret News
One thing is clear.
Our highly rated transfers were front and center at the Marriott Madness.

1 Hall is point #1 and clear general of the team…but…

2 Demin, at 6’9, can do things no one else can even dream about. His passing skills are elite. getting others involved is his skill.
Demin could be a triple-double waiting to happen; playing some point guard, and some wing spots, he had nine points and five assists in the first half and three points and four assists in the second half.

Young said the young Russian makes similar passes that LeBron James makes, then stressed that he isn’t saying the 6-9 phenom is the player that James is.

“But yeah, his passing is special,” Young allowed.

3 as I reported last week. Catchings shooting is absurd but I think KY spilled the beans when he said this…, ““He’s just got a gift. He’s just a natural scorer. He can put the ball in the basket, and at 6-9 he can get shots off. He was a guy that we really wanted because he is different than anyone we have. He is a guy that can bail you out in a lot of drive possessions with his shot-making,” Young said. “I am on him constantly about his defense. Not that it is poor. But I just think if he can really guard, it is going to put him and our team in a whole different hemisphere. Because offensively he is going to be as talented as anybody we play against.””

4 Mihailo Boskovic, the 6-10 late addition from Serbia. Boskovic played fearlessly in the first half, at times attempting to dunk on Keita, at other times firing off 3-pointers like he had no conscience. Mark Pope would love this guy.

“I thought Mihailo looked really good,” Young said. “Essentially he showed exactly why we wanted him here. He is versatile, he can play multiple positions, he is smart, he can make shots. So that stood out to me.”

5 Keba, the rim rocker! The star of the night was Keita, the transfer from Utah. He had 13 points and six rebounds in the first half and six points and two rebounds in the second half. He had at least four rim-rattling dunks.

The battle to be the starting post player between Keita and returner Fouss Traore is going to be intense. Traore also played well, with 10 points and 11 rebounds in the first half and eight points in the second half. Traore was 2 of 2 from 3-point range in the second half.
( I humbly submit that the day Keba signed, he became the DeFacto starter)

6 Richie Saunders is the every ready bunny.

7 what they failed to mention is Mawot Meg.

8 Baker was also not mentioned, I am mentioning that to overlook Baker is folly.

a lineup of
Hall
Egor
Meg/Chatchings/Saunders
Boskovic
Keba/Foos
would be very tough to beat

BYU 5-star freshman Egor Demin has been cleared to play this season

Demin is cleared
Boskovic is not cleared

Does that mean Boskovic won’t play this year or that he hasn’t been cleared yet? Why has he not been cleared?

What I heard yesterday at practice is that Boskovic played 2 years of college ball in Serbia, THEN played pro ball in Serbia, and despite EVERY good D1 player now being a paid professional, the NCAA is drawing the line at signing existing professional players. Hypocritical NCAA as always. BYU is appealing the decision.
