which means Chase Fisher should light up the scoreboard the next two games. Unfortunately, he’ll wilt in the following two games. Remember with Chase: Poor teams mean 36 points a game; good teams mean 3 or 6 points a half. Coupled with poor defense, Chase is the big-game liability.
Perhaps Rose should rest Fisher against Central Michigan and Harvard so that the younger guys can gain experience. Then again, is Nick Saban interviewing for BYU HC?
The problem with what happened last night is that BYU is developing a pattern now. When it happened vs. LBSU it was just a bad game by Fischer and KC, then it happened against Utah, now it has happened again… last night. In BYU’s 3 losses, they dug themselves into a deep hole and couldn’t get out of it.
Fischer scored a lot of points vs. Utah but he absolutely killed BYU in the other two losses, shooting his way to defeat. He is not a leader or team player… because he doesn’t make up for poor shooting with other contributions. 0-9 is unacceptable, it ruined any chance for a complete BYU comeback.
Now a full 1/3 of their games have been defined by getting way behind and trying to make huge comebacks only to fall short. That is not a good pattern to follow…
I didn’t see the game with it on the PAC-12. Did you? It’s hard to objectively interpret what happened when we can’t see the shots Fischer and KC were attempting. If they were open looks, he can’t stop shooting. Rose has to decide whether to pull him or let him keep shooting. Shooters can eventually find their stroke like he did against Utah.
What we are deciding is that against the better teams, he tightens up and changes his shooting motion. Perhaps the defenders are closer and that is disrupting his concentration. Not sure if any of the others on the bench would be any more consistant. Tough decision with Fischer. KC, he plays regardless of his shooting percentage because he make up for it in other areas. However, 18 shots for him is too much. He needs to look for assists first then scoring.
Totally disagree with this comment. Anybody who has played the game of basketball (not just coached a girls jv team) knows that if you aren’t hitting your shots, there are many other things you can do to help the team. Geez… he was 0-9 on 3 pointers! at what point in the game do you start doing something besides launching 3 pointers? How many assists did he have in his 27 minutes? ZERO. Did “finding his stroke” help the Cougars beat Utah? So no… I disagree with you and I didn’t have to see the game. I listened to it. At least you got it right with KC… and like THawk said in another post, not sure why KC continues to play point guard…
The 2nd half of the Utah game Fischer scored 26 points and on fire. According to your JV high school experience, Fischer would have either been forced to pass or sit. And, BYU would have lost by 50.
So I guess BYU will spend the rest of the season seeing their success depend on whether Fischer gets hot in a game or not. Wow… that will go a long way to making the season successful. I would trade his hot shooting games every once in awhile for a team player that contributes in many ways. It isn’t about hot shooting, it’s about wins and losses.
Funny thing is they still lost the game. Every once in awhile he will go off but he is a defensive liability and won’t carry the team like Jimmer did and could. Maybe that is part of the problem… maybe Rose sees Jimmer every time he looks at Fischer. Did he score all 26 in the second half? If so, where was he in the first half when they got down by 23?
If you understood more how the game works, your follow up statement would have been different. Seriously, you think without Fischers points BYU would have lost by 50? or he would have been forced to pass or sit? All that statement does is show how little you understand.
I use logic, reasoning and experience. You played a couple of games in high school. Whoopee!!! You simply don’t understand the complex dealings with the players as I do. Chatman, Calvert and the other young players didn’t develop enough to replace Fischer. And yes, 50 points!
