I’ve been reflecting a lot lately about our society in general and how people react to things (me included), and one thing stands out to me: How we act, speak, and respond in times of tragedy reveals a lot about who we are at our core.
I shared concerns about some posts I found offensive—was I wrong to speak up? Maybe. But I did so from a place of sincerity. But apparently, it was taken wrong as usual.
Honestly, this site feels increasingly toxic, people cannot have a different opinion without someone dismissing that opinion as being wrong or evil or whatever.
My goal since I retired is to work on being a better person each day and to align more closely with what the Savior would have me do. To be honest, some of the posts distracts me from this goal.
Time to take a break again from all social media and focus on being a better person.
You are doing exactly what the left is. Not able to see the other person’s views. Ignore and run. That’s not what Jesus did. Charlie was doing what Jesus did. Spread his message of truth and challenge evil. Jesus didn’t run from his political foes. He logically reasoned with them and their followers. And some of those left the foes and joined with the Lord. Then, the Lord said go and spread the truth to the rest of the world. He didn’t say go hide and be silent in the face of evil.
At no point did Kirk ever tell anyone who was Gay, black, transgendered he hated them. He reasoned logically with them with faith using the Bible for his logic and reason. He challenged people, especially the brainwashed young people, to learn and see what the “other side” actually believes and “sees.” Thats what Jesus Christ did. He didn’t teach the adulterous will be saved continuing her ways. He told her to go and sin no more. That’s what Kirk taught. Here’s the sin and here’s how you can stop the sin by taking up your cross and follow Jesus Christ. I’m sure you will say “but the way he did it was hateful.” No, there is no easy way to tell someone they are sinning. Best way is to do so with a way out of the sin. Like Jesus did with the adulterous.
One last thing, you want to go into your cave and tell us know how righteous you are. Kirk called himself a sinner all the time. Yet, he still wanted to save a generation from falling further into darkness and accepting evil. Fern said a lot of really good things for you. I’d heed his warnings.
Thanks for the lesson in the OPPOSITE approach to discussing to understand someone and their opinion and concerns.
You never disappoint on that front.
Fernk approach was what we’ve been counseled.
Yours speaks for itself on attacking with ill intent.
Hey, but we all need reminders of how to take the wrong approach. For that, I thank you.
Check out this interaction Kirk had with a young g person whose parents split and are on the opposite political side. I think this may give you a different perspective of Kirk and his mission.
We can’t grow without different perspectives and beliefs to judge on. It’s probably why Kirk had half his staff LDS. While he was doing what he did, he knew he was growing as a person too.
I have personally been in a situations where it gives me a unique understanding of what this family is going through. all I can say is they and this young man needs your prayers as much as the Kirk family. they are going to be struggling to understand it and how to reconcile all the emotions. this young man was captured by hate and the deceiver used this to twist his mind. I hope the entire family can find peace and the young man can find forgiveness for what he has done, because I know Charlie has already forgiven him.
Hear Hear! 100%
We pray for his family especially parents.
I haven’t yet prayed for the shooter and will at some point. But not yet. Showing my weakness.
Yes, that’s always the hard part, forgiveness. I was in a teacher’s retreat with the Catholic High School I used to teach at where the Father asked the question, “Can you forgive the Midnight Stalker, Richard Ramirez?” He killed many women. Should have seen the squirming going on with the teachers. But, it’s necessary for everyone to move on. His Robinson’s whole life shot down the tube because he was influenced by evil leftists and no one stepped in and said anything to him? Get him help?
He called himself a conservative many times. And yes, he was a civil rights leader. But most of all, he was a disciple of Christ trying to save young people from the brainwashing of the communist teachers at universities, colleges, JC’s and even high schools.
I haven’t felt that at all. I don’t know why you are feeling that way but your feelings are valid nonetheless and if it is coming from somewhere I hope it goes away or you are able to feel better about it overall. I completely respect your opinions and very often agree with those opinions. I didn’t take anything you said as offensive or wrong. I thought it was fine. I am getting older just like you. We are probably very close in age and opinion/perspective. Please keep posting as I’ve asked and hoped from you other times as well. You are a valued contributor’
What a thoughtful comment. I’m sure this made Floyd feel appreciated and understood.
Then that is what you should do. I don’t think it is correct for you to tell Floyd what he should do, Floyd is an adult who can figure things out himself. From everything I know of Floyd he is a good man with his heart in the right place. He is way down the list of people who need to be called out. I am not going to tell you what to do but I don’t think what you did here was helpful.
Whether or not the rifle was found wrapped in a towel in the woods, or just some brush near UVU, the released footage of the alleged shooter parkouring down the wall doesn’t show him with any gun at all. How did the rifle make it into the woods/brush?
I have a lot of questions about this, just like I had a lot of questions about Trump’s first assassination attempt. The old guy who looks like Larry David who immediately confessed to it in the crowd was bizarre — and then they perp walked him away with his pants down, showing his garments. Why would they have done that? Why not let him pull up his pants, for whatever reason they were down in the first place. Then, they had a second suspect who was caught and then immediately released. He had a rifle in his dashboard, near the shooting. Very, very weird, all of it.
I told my wife, after it happened, that no matter what came of it we wouldn’t be getting the truth nor would we know exactly what happened, who was involved and anything else associated with the situation. I just chalk it up to evil and designing men. Note that I said “men”, not “man”.
It’s all weird, nothing simple or normal about any of it.
It was reported by the Wall Street Journal that the shooter had trans and Antifa messages engraved on the bullets. They later retracted the report about the trans part of it. They claim it came from law enforcement. At the time it appeared credible. Whether the shooter was part of Antifa is not entirely relevant. It appears he was aligned with their values and tactics and had been poisoned by the far left.
I have read some of Kirk’s comments that have upset people. I heard some of his campus outreach visits on YouTube and some of his podcasts. What I heard was a very articulate man shutdown clueless college kids armed with standard left wing talking points and miserably failing to foil him. The discussions may have been confrontational, but it was generally some student starting the confrontation and Kirk shutting them down and not in a rude way. I never heard anything distasteful to me. Some of the stuff where he was strongly defending traditional values were characterized as hate speech. He certainly had more traditional views on the role of women, had no use for abortion, and was strongly opposed to DEI. All of these things would label him hateful by the left. He never backed down from his convictions and I largely share his views in the 3 areas I mentioned.
I read his MLK statements, which I never heard, I am not sure about their context in every case. I would like to read them in context to understand exactly what his point was. On some other things he said I agree with him but he shouldn’t have said them and I will leave it at that. It is interesting that every controversial thing he said is being dragged out almost as if to say he had it coming. All of those who knew him have nothing but praise for his character. Like all of us he was far from perfect, but by all counts was a very good man.
As for the shooter it appears he was radicalized and his actions were pre-meditated. This is what the evidence currently points to. We can mourn for his family as we mourn for Charley Kirk.
Sure it does, The shooter, worked by himself, texted a friend to come get the rifle, makes that friend an accomplice but I understand that he got cold feet or the rifle was found in a short amount of time
The video shows clearly that rifle wrapped in a towel, Robinson then hung off the building holding it, injured his leg when he jumped, then ran to the wooded area and ditched the 30-06 in some bushes.
One thing about Utah, we are an open carry state. You can wear your pistol on a belt, have your rifle in your truck. It is a big reason why Utah has not had a mass killing of any type, Bad guys die in this state really really fast.
DId anyone take note that not one person here in Utah went out and destroyed property or burned down a building in protest. No, we will Morn Charlie’s death and take his advice. Go out and tell a friend we love em. Go out of our way to engage with people who don’t share our views. Start smiling at every person you pass, wish them a good day. Resolve to make the world a better place
1st Scott, Floyd was not telling us how righteous he is….2nd Why would you say ,”you want to go to your cave….”. Floyd shouldn’t be so thin skinned especially when it’s anything out of your mouth” but I just wonder why you feel the need to say those kind of things?
honestly I think this thread should be a place for us to morn and remember a good man, Charlie Kirk, but I defer to Fish, because he started this thread.
I will leave you all with this. Charlie was a man that loved everyone and wanted the best for all of us. he felt compelled by the lord to go out and spread the message he did. he didn’t need you to agree with him, many times he found common ground and left it at that. agree with all of his message or not he loved us all the same.
