Critical Juncture for BYU Football

Sitake knows they won’t fire him after this season (his contract and BYU does not eat money)
He is looking at next year as well as this year. I don’t blame him. The big problem with Bohanan is this rent a QB mentality that AROD has got us into. We need longer term stability out of the QB position.
If Ratzaitf fails again, will they pull the plug and play Bohanan? Notice that SMU demoted their starter for the option QB, Terry. He is very similar to our Bohanan.

Absolutely. He’s 5’9. College coaches don’t like 5’9.

Everyone should pray that BYJew gets over his yips and the game slows down for him. One more game like the SMU game and he will sit

So, was that an anti-semetic statement?

here are some more reasons to start Bohanon

  • 6-3, 226
  • Totaled 2,523 yards (2,200 passing and 323 rushing) and 27 touchdowns (18 passing and 9 rushing)
  • Led the Bears to a 12-2 record and won the Sugar Bowl
  • A former Elite 11 quarterback and four-star recruit (247 & ESPN)
  • Was rated the No. 1 player in Arkansas out of high school the No. 9 dual-threat quarterback in the country
  • Eight-time Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll Member
  • Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award semifinalist in 2021
  • Three-time Big 12 All-Academic Team Selection

I get it. Bohanan has this track record. 2 things:
He has not been the same since the shoulder injury.
He would be playing if AROD had full confidence in him. (Larimer is rarely off with his spiddy sense)

Please explain how BYJew is antisemitic when Retzlaff himself uses that name as his hashtag on the “X” media platform?

why are you making an argument you don’t even believe? From your’s and Tlarimer statements I would say you don’t see Roderick as a competent OC. Which means that your view of him completely negates your own argument. So is there more then that, that you can give on why we shouldn’t play Bohanon.

Let’s all read this article:

Derwin Gray is one of the smartest guys to ever play for BYU, and also one of the best defensive players ever at BYU.

HE NAILS IT.

I agree with you. I was trying to understand what the coaches are thinking. The more I think about SMU, I don’t understand why Bohanan is not being used. He needs some game reps. Your #1 is always an injury away.

Look for Bohanan to get in some series vs. Wy

He’s Jewish. He can use it. It would be like a Utah citizen of the U.S. telling a Polish joke who isn’t Polish…

as 1/8th polish I give you all permission to make Pollock jokes.
did you hear the one about why the Polish Navy put a screen door on their submarine?

Whopper you’re ridiculous

The first principal of the Catholic school I taught at for 16 years made it a point to let people know jokes about others religion, ethnicity, race, homeland was offensive. I once came home with some jokes my Hispanic friends were telling and laughing hard about Hispanics and told my dad them. He stopped me and explained to me it is okay for my Hispanic friends to tell them but not for me to. Especially to someone who is Hispanic. Same with other jokes. It’s okay for Retzlaff to do it because he’s Jewish. For others, it’s actually offensive. Just best not to do it.

JR is starting. We know that. After JR nearly single handedly lost the game for BYU with those 3 brutal TOs, and didn’t do much of anything in addition to that, any sane OC would have a package already in place for GB, and it would happen in the 1st half. If successful in those reps, GB gets more reps. We don’t know how good GB really is because we haven’t seen him against a real opponent, and we certainly can’t trust ARod to be honest after he said for a month that the margin was razor thin, then didn’t play GB when Retzlaff completely fell apart. I would love to see GB for extended reps at Wyo to see what he can do.

I’d be shocked if we don’t see GB in the first half.

I hope Bohanan starts. I’m all for it. No reason not to. It’s a good time to see if Bohanan can play and the shoulder is 100%.

When I was a kid we were going on a family road trip and we drove over the hill between santa paula (hoppers town) and Ojai (where i lived at the time). Between the two towns there is an area called sulphur mountain and yes, it smells really bad but there is oil up there they used to pump and it seeps out of the hillside too. Anyhow, we were driving and my brother and I made up what we thought was a really funny joke. It went like this…

When does the polish national choir meet?

The day after the polish national bean feed.

No idea why it was a polish choir but we thought nothing of it and we weren’t racist or whatever you call someone nowadays…

We just thought we were hilarious and we used to bug my sisters about farts and stuff all the time. Oh, the good old days. How I long for that era of time.

And that would be funny to you. But, if you told a Polish person that joke, they may be offended. They might give a forced laugh but would be offended. It’s really nothing new. Feelings were hurt back in your youth days. Remember calling people “fags” and stuff like that? We thought it was funny. But it hurt those who were gay.
I remember our bishop where I was baptized once was explaining buying cheap clothes and stuff from department stores (he owned his own mom and pop clothing store in Provo) during his talk for the Ward. He used the term “Jewed Down” when talking about the cheap stuff. So, after Church, I asked him if he knew what the context of the term meant and came from. He did not. When I told him he asked to be forgiven. He was a wonderful man and great Bishop. Like many in this life, just ignorant about these things because he never had to deal with it. Although, members of the Church often deal with same kind of things all the time. And, sometimes it sticks with new members and then they stop showing up.

As the great prophet Brigham Young said:
He who takes offense when offense was not intended is a fool, yet he who takes offense when offense is intended is an even greater fool for he has succumbed to the will of his adversary.

I think you are trying to start contention once again.

Give my regards to BY. Saying things that will cause contention is contentious. How about being compassionate for those who have had to endure mean words. It’s easy for you to say don’t be offended. What does the Bible say about being offended of offending? Just be careful when you think you are being cute and funny. You may be the one causing contention.

Pay no heed to Whopper on this one regarding BY-Jew. Once again, he hijacks a topic for his own soap box. He twists and contorts the words to fit whatever position he wants to preach, slams anyone as racist, communist, socialist etc who takes a different position (usually the correct one) and usually hangs himself with his own words.
The self proclaimed BY-Jew picked his moniker BY-Jew intentionally and uses BY-Jew referring to himself - BY-Jew. The media has picked up and used the BY-Jew moniker. It’s clever. It fits with his unique and cool journey at BYU. He also said he would try to convert some of his team members. TIC of course. All lost on Hopper.
Apples and oranges. Telling racist jokes or using slurs to demean a group, race, religion is wrong on its face - duh, we all know this Hopper. This is NOT that.
Here’s your words:
"…made it a point to let people know jokes about others religion, ethnicity, race, homeland was offensive. I once came home with some jokes my Hispanic friends were telling and laughing hard about Hispanics and told my dad them. He stopped me and explained to me it is okay for my Hispanic friends to tell them but not for me to. Especially to someone who is Hispanic. Same with other jokes. [Agree 100%]
All about JOKES, making fun of someone and their difference. BY-Jew is not making a joke or demeaning Jews. I have seen ZERO evidence anywhere, in media or this board of anyone using BY-Jew to demean Retzlaff, anyone Jewish or the Jewish religion.
Apples and Oranges once again by Hopper - the master of contention.
What a dope. Oops, I just insulted one of the Seven D…s

What changed is the conference is up for grabs with no great teams (maybe Utah), and 2, our defense looks off the charts. We can win the whole enchilada (oops, racist comment) and have as good a shot as anyone as many have intimated. BUT odds go way down if we continue the experiment that is Retzlaff.

Here’s why I stubbornly suggest Retzlaff will not, cannot change.
He has been with the program almost 2 years.

How many times has a coach told him “when you are in that situation, you have to … (all the examples Floyd pointed out) Let’s say 150 times.
How many times has he watched film with coachs who say “Stop the film, see Jake, right there, when you don’t see someone open, you have to… Let’s watch that again so it is reinforced” Let’s say 100 times.
How many times in a practice, will they run a on field simulation with him, getting into a jam and then saying “Now tuck the ball with both hands” or “Don’t try to make that throw” Trying to make it so it is muscle memory. Lets say 50 times.
How many times after a turnover in a real game do they pull him aside and say “look, as soon as you are in that situation, you have to …” whatever the correct move would be. And he probably says " I know, I know.” Let’s say 25 times.

The guy has a major arm and could be great. But I do not think he can learn not to panic and thinks he has to be the hero of every play.

THAT is why you put Bohanon in NOW. Chance of a life-time for BYU .

Hopper, you might not understand my feelings about racism, rudeness, or demeaning behavior. No one can control your reactions; only you can decide whether to be offended or not. That was my point!

You introduced the contention by labeling someone as anti-Semitic, which is inherently contentious.

There’s a significant difference between being “racist” and referring to someone by a hashtag they use themselves.

What you’re doing is similar to what some political groups do: creating a racial issue where none exists.

Calling someone “BYJew” isn’t racist; it’s akin to calling a church member a “Mormon.”
