Frank, frankly doesn’t seem to be aware of the missions recruits go on for 2 years. He sounds more like a media troll who doesn’t understand this and how it affects the recruiting and the team. Oh, and how long it takes to get the mission rust off. So, these are legitimate questions. Waiting to see if he’s a troll?
maybe I am maybe I’m not. maybe I will go back to church again if you agree with me. maybe I will join if your nice. who knows.
tolling you is like shooting fish in a barrel, and the funnest thing I have done in a while.
honestly I decided to start posting here because I think it is time for Kalani to go, and I am sick of holding my tong with other BYU fans that like him because he’s a nice guy.
here are some interesting # for recruiting.
Kalani’s average overall ranking with recruiting: 68
Bronco’s for the same amount of time: 50
Kalani averages 1.5 4star recruits. Sorry Grasshopper no 5stars listed
the stats didn’t show the star of Bronco’s recruits.
I hear a lot of hype about Kalani’s recruiting, but the #s don’t lie. also it doesn’t matter how good a player you are a bad coach can make you look like a 1star recruit. and I think that is what we are seeing now.
got the info from here Brigham Young 2023 Football Commits

This is how easy it is to confuse the “Grasshopper”. Present FACTS! LOL
Personally knew Norm Chow. Thought that everyone knew the story, IDK. Once he left, Chow did some great things as an OC but he sure stunk it up as Hawaii’s head coach. BYU dodged a bullet on that one.
BYU has to go get this ISU game at home under the lights, This is THE GAME that determines the entire season. If we can’t get it, we will see huge portal turnovers. Just look at Smith up at U of U Bball. He got our best recruiter and Smith can’t get that team jumpstarted, kids don’t want to play for a loser. Either Sitake gets serious about the O by firing a coach or two, he will find himself on the hot seat.
I’ve said this many times, If you are a chum to your players, you have to have some very in your face assistant coaches and vice versa, as had head coach, if you are a Nick Saben, you have to have some coaches that love up that kid after Saben murders them. Sitake is too nice and if all his coaches are nice guys, they will all be looking for jobs in short order. Me: I loved George Patten…you knew you were on a winning team. Also loved Coach Bobby Knight, sure you hear stories about his legendary temper, but missing are all the stories about how he won without cheating, graduated his players and how much he genuinely cared about his kids.
I think Grasshopper is talking about Kingsley Suamataia who plays on the Offensive line that transferred from Oregon is a 5-star recruit.
But to be fair, there is still a fair amount of recruiting that takes place to get players from the portal.
So, Yes Kalani has 1 5-star recruit.
On the defense side of the ball, Jay Hill is very much up in the players faces. Ask Malik Moore who is no longer starting.
Why does this matter? I know lots of non-members BYU fans… Belonging to our faith has no bearing in this conversation.
So, did you even go to BYU? It just seems you don’t get that many recruits go on mission in all sports at BYU. Obviously, not the non-members and some of the active kids as well. But, most do. Anything else you want to share about yourself? Cause, most in here think Sitaki needs a few more years to recruit for the P5 conference.
Trolling you is fun as well. Most in here don’t like it. See, it’s like a good ole boys club where they all agree and can’t handle an opposing opinion.
you are correct as a prospect he is listed as a 5star, but only a 4star when we got him.
The 5 star is a basketball player. Can’t you read
Let’s all remember that if BYU signs a kid in 2024 who goes on a mission, that is just one FEWER scholarships BYU has to award in 2026. BYU may wind up with a scholly committed a returning missionary and have to pass on a recruit who is actually better. It’s a mixed bag, and super unpredictable. So I don’t even count the mission guys until they are back.
For example: I’m very close to a kid who was a highly rated recruit, offered by multiple top 25 programs, and signed with BYU (Bronco). He came off his mission, played one year for Tuiaki and quit football (he’s doing quite nicely for himself now, BTW). So that’s a 3 time first team all state kid who was projected to be a multiple year starting ILB at BYU and it just didn’t turn out that way. I just think it’s impossible to project how much impact the “mission guys” will actually have on the program. For every Taysom Hill that is a 100% GAME CHANGER after his mission, there are lots who don’t pan out, change their mind, etc. So I say let’s forget about the “mission pipeline” until they actually show up and are on the team…I’m not buying any “just wait until so and so gets back from his mission”–at least for football (again, excluding the Taysom Hills of the world, which are few and far between). The “just wait until he’s back” argument is totally valid for basketball, where one or two guys can turn a whole team, but not for football.
Well, how good would have those teams been without Taysom Hill. Granted there are more players on the field but a 5 star QB or WR can make a difference. But, the point I’ve been making isn’t about that. It’s about how Sitaki will now recruit as a P5 football team. He needs to show it now, not 2 years ago. What could sink him is not hiring the right coaches.
Congrats. Your last two sentences are the most rational, agreeable from you I seen in about 3 days. Good on you
Fish - You are 100% correct. The ISU game is the biggest game we’ve had since beating Utah on 9/11/21; we won that game 26-17 and it was glorious. If we beat ISU, while a flawed season, we are looking at 6-6 and a bowl game. That is what 90% hoped for. Thinking we’d win 7+ this year was always foolish. I think we all agree OK and OK St are sure losses…absent something crazy like OK’s QB getting hurt or something weird like that.
Now if we lose this Saturday, I don’t think anyone will see the 5-7 season as a success. It’s not the record - it’s the way we lost getting constantly outgained and out-TOP’d. And if we do lose, you are right that coaches will feel the warm seat…ARod in particular. We are 7.5 pt home dogs. All year I’ve thought we’d win this game. But now? Hiding our poor offense and crummy front 7 as my brother correctly points out just isn’t really possible. We only beat Texas Tech due to the turnover battle (5-0) and Tech playing a 3rd string QB. I see a valiant fight but an ISU win 24-17.
I think most thought we would improve as other teams improve during the season. Like the other newcomers, we didn’t. It will take a couple of years to make the turnaround. The key is to get deep so that with all the injuries, we can fill them with players ready to step in.
A 5 - 7 season was expected by most analysts including most in here as well.
I think some of the problems last game will be fixed and Rezleff will have a good game as well will the defense. BYU 34 ISU 24
I’m feelin lucky and with the late late gametime start as well as the urgency of this game to become bowl elgible, BYU should be hyped up to get this win.
Go Cougs
Great opportunity for BYU vs. Iowa St. to show they belong in the conference. Honestly I won’t mind losing so much if they play hard and compete. I mean that from top to bottom. I want to see a well called game from our OC, something that has been missing.
I want and hope for BYU to win but am not overly confident they will. They have to put their best game of the season together to make it happen.
That is why I now tape the games, and then decide to watch the game at a later time (Besides I am old and need my beauty sleep on the night games. LOL).
I have no problems with BYU losing games, that was kind of expected. What was not expected and really bugs me is the fact that BYU has not been “Competitive” in most of their games this year.
Back in the glory days, when BYU would play a Penn State of FSU or even Texas, you knew there was a good chance they would not win the game, but you knew they would have a chance to win because they were competitive, and they surprised a few teams along the way with a win.
I see whiffed blocks not only by the lineman, but the downfield WR’s. I see drop balls (Remember the days of Kozlowski, “If I can touch, I can catch it” mentality), lack of execution (how many delays of game penalties this year?), poor techniques in tackling, poor decision making, etc.
Do I want BYU to win the game? Of course, but I am not going to waste my time watching a team that has no passion or commitment to playing the game, I would rather be out fishing in one of my favorite fishing holes (for you Fish ).
My busy time of year is late fall. I really enjoyed the 1st few games, Got a sideline pass for the SUU game. After the Arkansas game, I was super excited about BYU’s possibilities, still hyped for Kansas, thought we should of won but it was all down hill after that.
Not sure if injuies to key players and having a big drop off in talent for subs did my cougs in or, and I am leaning more on this, that teams had enough tape on us and our coaches can’t seem to adjust to what defenses throw our way but the WU game was the thud of us hitting rock bottom.
On the other hand, not going to waste my Saturdays on football, not going to invite friends over for my insane food spreads only to watch BYU go through the motions. As a fan, if they don’t care, I don’t care. simple as that. On the plus side, I’ve had some killer days on the water because of BYU’s failures.
I love em but I can’t let that spoil these indian summer/fall days.
I saw some of your pictures, what great catches you had. One day, I will get to the level you are at.
