The defense never really got on track in 2014. To be fair to the rookie DC, there were a lot of injuries to deal with let alone the task of learning a new job. Has Howell shown enough to merit confidence going forward? Frankly, if BYU had even fielded a mediocre defense, we would have won at least two more games. I don’t know what constraints Bronco has in hiring assistant coaches but we’ve already tried promoting from within (Brandon Doman) and we see how that turned out. I’d love to get a DC with a proven record to help us with the upcoming season. A repeat performance by the 2014 defense will probably leave us with a 5 win season next year.
