With Fischer possibly out and Seljaas still injured defense will have to play good defense tonight.
On offense, must have a good controlled offense without the weave. Chatman, Emery and KC must be smart about penetrating the lane and ready to dish to open shooters and cutters.
If the referees are calling it tight then free throws will be important again! And Chatman will have to be on with his shot. Hartsoch too!
In other words, they are going to need to play as a team and rely on each other even more than they have had to in previous games. They will need to share the ball and stay away from the selfish, hero ball stuff. Great analysis, totally agree with you.
Depends on what the defense is doing. This will not be easy. What could help is our defense play much better and slow them down to get them out of their fast pace game.
Defense? Haha thank you for making me laugh until I cry. I was running out of kleenex wiping my eyes, either laughing or crying at whatever you call what BYU was doing when USF had the ball. Oh my.
Love that defense! The offense!!!
Hey… I think you were wrong about defense. BYU scored 114 points.
Will you admit it now?
No. They did exactly what I said they would do. You obviously didn’t watch the game. Hey extended their 1-2-2 defense out to almost half court on numerous occasions. We got caught dribbling into conjugations as they also kept getting into the passing lanes as I said they would. Most passes we made were contested. The evidence of this pressure was 9 steals by SF.
What saved us was the 3 point shooting. Half of which came on One-on-one offense. Including that 30 footer by Emery. The game played out as I stated and we responded as I said we had to.
Exactly! Your analysis was spot on! I was amazed at how San Francisco’s defense was able to hold BYU to 114 points.
It is incredible how you are exactly right with everything you post.
Like I said before, you are a legend in your own mind!
You will never get it. I never said BYU could not nor would not over come their defense. I said that their defense was exactly what I expected. Much like Pacific’s defense only quicker guards.
Because we were hit with our outside shooting, we were able to overcome their pressure defense. Why is that so hard to understand?
9 steals is a bit high don’t you think? Why did it happen? Because of the pressure defense.
The o e who is a legend in his own mind is you
Just thought I’d post three quotes, directly from this very thread… you know, to help remind you of what you posted. Let the spinmasters spinning begin!
Those comments have nothing to do with what I posted about SF defense and how they would play.
Our defense did okay in the first half. But, SF shot better in the second half.
We did not try to run the weave either. So, I was spot on about that. Admit that you did not see the game
“This will not be easy” has everything to do with what you posted about the USF defense. The fact of the matter is that BYU scored 114 points! are you honestly claiming that scoring that many points has nothing to do with USF defense and how they would play?
and which defense in this game did what they needed to do? It was a game with little or no defense, as evidenced by the combined score of 203 points. There wasn’t a lot of defense out there… it was a fun game to watch but not a defensive showcase.
JH:The fact of the matter is that BYU scored 114 points! are you honestly claiming that scoring that many points has nothing to do with USF defense and how they would play?
SG: Yep! I knew they would attemp extreme pressure and extend their D far beyond what is normal to get into the passing lanes. This would cause BYU to take contested and rushed shots, which happened. Also, it would cause BYU to dribble into congestion to make steals possible which happened. 9 of them. It also caused many contested shots in the key.
What saved us is hot shooting. Something we are inconsistent with. Meaning their strategy was good and they executed it well. They hoped we were going to shoot under 40% from the field and 25% from 3 points.
We have shown in game where we had lots of open looks that we could not make many baskets. USF game, we hit them. So the defense isn’t important to the outcome. Our consistency with shooting is important.
