I think the rankings are usually skewed and have been for a long time. Do I think Oregon is the best team in the nation? Probably not, but they are unbeaten and defeated Ohio State, who is probably a top 10 team. Probably the way Georgia dominated Texas, they are my number 1, but they have a loss so Oregon’s it. If BYU loses to anyone they will probably drop 8-10 spots. Really, it comes down to the last 2 games of the season and then the body of work
The winner of the Big12 Championship game is an automatic entry into the playoffs. It’s whether the Big12 regular season winner gets in or not. Notre Dame can get in because they play power teams. But, Boise hardly does and Army and Navy don’t play anyone except for Notre Dame. So, I don’t see how either BYU or Iowa State get left out if they can win out until the championship game.
watch the video, in the first two min he says that isn’t the case. " its the top 4 highest ranked conference champions" that automatically get in. As we have all seen this year BYU and Iowa have had a hard time getting into the top10. here is the scenario that could stop us from getting in. we lose a close game to Utah (sound of me spitting on the ground). We get knocked out of the top 15, but still go on to win the conference and barely make it to #15 and don’t make it in. don’t believe me check check out the who is in the top 10 and tell me why we aren’t there based on our strength of schedule. sorry guys, but we are the PAC12 of the new playoffs setup.
All 4 conferences get in the playoff no matter what their record is.
Big 12 will have at least one team, the real question is if the Big 12 can get 2 teams in?
About the 12-Team College Football Playoff Format - College Football Playoff
the way I read the first item from that page.
The 12 participating teams will be the five conference champions ranked highest by the CFP selection committee, plus the next seven highest-ranked teams.
it doesn’t say P5 conference champions (period) it has the caveat of “ranked highest by the CFP”. making the scenario that laid out a real possibility. keep in mind the harder it is to get into the top 12 the easier it is to fall out. We lose one game we aren’t going to be treated like Texas, Georgia or Ohio, they will kick us as far down the rakings as they can.
Exactly! That’s why I said it is important that we should be ranked higher. However, we simply have to win at UCF. That’s the bottom line.
I think I starting to understand this better. Sounds like, if say, both the MWC AND AAC have a conference champ ranked higher than the Big12 champ (or ACC champ, or SEC or B10 champ), then Big 12 could be left out.
Am I getting there?
that is how I am reading it
“you’ll have to excuse my friend, he’s a little slow…”
I would have posted the gif, but don’t know how.
So that’s again, “you’ll have to excuse my friend [me], he’s a little slow”
There is no pac 12. it is 4 conferences.
That is true. It is also true that the Big 12 has not been treated with equal footing as the other power conferences. The Big 12 needs to make some noise this year. It did not help for TCU to lose 45 zip to Georgia two years ago.
no, the power conferences are allowing 1 non P4 to be in the playoff. at this point, BSU.
