First 15 minutes good

See if we can keep the pressure on them

Didn’t keep the pressure on, but did turn it back on…nice win…

That was a good win. Lots of subs played so we should be rested for Kansas on Tuesday

If the boys up North can pull it off BYU will be tied with Kansas for 5th in the standings. Though Bill Self losing two in a row on his first swing through Utah would be a difficult situation.

One down six to go.

Utah will choke

you may be right…but not tonight…BYU and Kansas tied in conference standing and they are visiting on Tuesday…HoF coach against a talented rookie who finally seems to have his team figured out…fun times

Other than the 3 point shooting nothing to complain about on this game. Eleven guys again contributing. Turnovers were only 10 which is an improvement over what we have been seeing in most of the conference games, free throw shooting was solid, the guys shared the basketball, rebounding was very good, defense was good, the inside game was good, and several guys have shown they can put the ball on the floor and take it to the hoop. If they can play this well Tuesday they should beat Kansas in what will be a close game. Kansas is good but probably no better than Baylor.

Kansas didn’t look as good as OKS last night. By the 2nd half, we should have them worn down enough to blow them out.

BYU’s depth is a huge assett right now. If every player can contribute something they will be hard to beat. I like the fact that Stewart and Boskovic are getting minutes because they both bring something. BYU is running about 10-12 deep right now and they don’t lose a whole lot when the second unit guys are in. They help a lot and give the first guys a chance to rest more.

Which will be a real key in the Big12 tournament

I am starting to really like Stewart. He has been loyal to the program and has finally been given a chance. He could have bailed and gone to a lower level
program and played a lot but he didn’t. He has always played solid defense and he has contributed some offense in the last two games. He doesn’t turn the ball over either and plays within his role. He is a great teammate to have and I am very happy to see him finally get a chance other than at garbage time player. He is playing in meaningful situations and is helping the team. BYU would not have beaten West Virginia without him.

I know coaches want to have solid rotations but as seasons move along, so do other teams. We have to have players ready to step up. It would have been nice to have seen this at the beginning of the season.

Young said in the postgame that the depth is a blessing and a curse and he is starting to get a handle on how to use it.

He seems to have been a favorite of both Pope and KY, without getting much playing time. I thought maybe with his solid NBA numbers on the physical tests preseason he might get more of a chance at least against the insanely weak non-conference schedule.

That KY is expanding the depth instead of tightening it ala almost every coach on the bubble seems like it bodes well for the futrue…just wish Catchings was doing better…hope he sticks around for next year.

I saw the Kentucky has some injuries that may hurt them in their stretch run for a tournament bid. This includes Jaxon Robinson with a wrist injury. Perhaps KY realizes that BYU has had years where injuries popped up and doesn’t want to be caught flat footed. So, he’s playing 11 or 12 each game for that reason.

Beating Kansas is a key for the B12 tournament. Baylor, Kansas, BYU all tied for 5th. BYU owns the tiebreaker against Baylor. Beat Kansas and own tie breaker against both.

Iowa State is two games ahead with a game at their court…a chance to catch them if the team can go on fire…otherwise KY likely does a Pope and ties for 5th…with Kansas and Bill Self again.
