Portland is the mirror image of BYU, except they’re just not as good.
the speaker then went on to say they’ve got a good offense, porous defence, and like to push the tempo.

Well, then what’s the problem? I can’t watch the game. But, the shooting percentage is great for Portland and not for BYU. Turnovers are happening so where is the Poor defense from Portland?
BYU just has problems in first halves of games. Hope they can play better in the second half.
Apparently Byu is very susceptible to good point guard play like Watson from San Francisco and this kid from Portland This lost takes all the air out of the balloon for Byu
If KC is 6-17 we win. Consistancy lacks.
KC was 4-17 because he missed 6-8 shots on which he drew contact in the act of shooting but got no calls. His only 2 FT attempts were on a 1st half one-and-one. I believe the officials had conferred and jointly decided that KC was not getting any calls in the paint, period. Why? because the officiating appeared to be fair and balanced for 9 players on the court, but it was more than obvious that there was a different set of rules for KC.
Rose didn’t make any comments about that. Fact is, in the GU game he got contact and they weren’t called but he made a lot more shots. And, what was Emery’s problem? Sejlass problem? Chatman’s problem? Winning games with these referees will always be tough because they just aren’t very good and knowledgeable.
The problem we have is we just don’t get off to good starts very often. Falling behind by double digits makes it hard to come back and win every time.
Clear to me that either Rose did not prep for the game or the players thought that they had the easy win, after all, Portland had just lost 4 in a row and our Cougs just knocked off GU at their place, something that happens about as often as blood moon. So, If I talked about BYU having trouble with aggressive point guards days ago (eg. Watson from SF and Wintering from Portland), you would think that BYU would practice for that, right?
Stats don’t lie and 10 assists for the game tells me that these guys did not trust each other which is a true head scratcher after a very unselfish GU game.
Got to love the rec. league…it’s like weather in Winnamucca, Nv. One day its 90, the next freezing and snow. KC could not get a call no matter how hard they hit him. Proof…Since when has Davis fouled out of a game?
When will people understand to get an assist a player has to actually make a shot. When a team shoots 38% they aren’t making shots off of passes or one on one. Low assists does not equal selfish play.
low assists do not equal selfish play…true.
however,
they do indicate it…meaning when the assists are unusually low, one would look further to see the cause…the tape would do the telling whether it is what you profess, just an unusually low assist rate because the passes that normally count for assists were not leading to baskets, or as others profess that the unusually low assist rate is because the passes were not being made…
given the unusually high turnover rate as well, which also indicates a low ability to make successful baskets off of passes that normally run into assisted baskets it is likely a combination of poor passing, lower passing (ie selfish play) and poor shooting. leading to the bad assist rate.
That said while the result of the game, a loss at cellar Portland, does indicate the sky is falling, That the score was as close as it was indicates to me that it was overconfidence more than anything else that added up to the loss.
Emery and Seljaas on the road, add in Chatman in front of a home crowd and the frosh didn’t help as much as they needed to for a successful result.
The final score being so close of course indicates that any of a number of possible things could have been improved slightly and the embarrassment of the loss would never have occurred.
I agree with your assessment.
