Houston in game

Hard to fire with a 10 win season and a share of the title 7-2. Keep in mind, Houston is the best defense in the league. What!!! Yep!

but they have the 26th best defense in the NCCA.
they were in almost every game they lost.

The BYU offense actually did better against Houston than most teams have. Houston was only allowing 324 yards per game and BYU got over 350. BYU’s problem was 3 lost fumbles.

It has been done before by other teams, but Kalani likes his friends too much to fire them for yet another dismal offensive performance. That is 4 or 5 straight games that BYU offense sputtered and was lucky to win the games they did.

Luck is preparation meets opportunity. Not a bad thing like you make it out to be. It’s like the word “good” was turned around to be “bad and “bad” meant “good” when I was a teenager.

Again, all teams had mostly difficulty moving the ball and scoring on Houston. I don’t know why you make BYU into this all of a sudden best P4 team in the nation. How many games did you have us winning 3 months ago? 10-2? Not close. Great year.

Last 3 games we lost the turnover fight. That was the killer in the 2 losses.

True, but is also a way to show “improvement” from one game to another. By the end of the season, BYU should be firing on all cylinders, but yet, we lost three fumbles yesterday, the two previous games we lost the turnover battle, our offense is anything BUT firing on all cylinders.

That is why I made my observation, our offense has not improved or been “lucky” for the past 5 games.

I’ll post about my point again, but want to add it here. Floyd, you officiated a long time. On the field you know which players are the best and which can dominate.

BYU’s best player on offense is Chase Roberts. Along with Puka—who ARod also CRUMINALLY underused—Roberts is one of the best WRs at BYU since Collie. He got FOUR targets against Houston, and NONE on the second half. ARod completely ignores our best player. It is impossible to believe but it’s true.

And, why would that be? A defensive lineman moves to the OL? Things change from beginning to end. Sometimes it helps and sometimes it hurts. Some teams lost key players early on and towards the end they came back and the teams got better. Others, like BYU, had key injuries towards the middle to the end. Especially on the OL. The fact that we were in the two games we lost is a testament to the coaching preparation and player’s hard work.

You did see that Robert’s was mostly double teamed. Just like Puka was last year. Amazing that you are unable to see Retzlaff’s progression mostly begins looking at Roberts. End of rant…

but is it?.. really?

Everyone feels uggg. But it’s also the time when rational minds help overcome frustration and fault finding. You know where I find fault? With the AP and Coaches Polling. Also, the CFP committee. How is OSU still in the top 10? Alabama #12? And much more too.

Who moved? No defensive lineman moved to the Oline.
Because of injury, the moved Weylin from left tackle to right tackle

Starting Offensive Lineman for the Houston game:
Sonny Makasini left tackle
Caleb Etienne -Left guard
Conner Pay Center
Bruce Mitchell Right guard
Weylin Lapuaho - Right tackle

I look at the “big picture” of what is going on with offense:

  1. ARod has not developed any incoming Freshman QB’s, he like the portal
  2. The past two years, BYU starts out strong only to fold and become conservative in play calling.
  3. Depends on Gadget plays too much, like to stupid play where Marion ran into Martin.
  4. He tries to run the ball up the middle when it has not worked all game.
  5. He does utilize his tight ends, how many times have they been thrown too?
  6. You say Roberts was double teamed, did you actually watch the game? because a majority of time he was one on one.
  1. So?
  2. I didn’t see conservative play calling. You then said too many trick plays. Confused?
  3. That reverse is common in college football. Marion was in the wrong position like he forgot what the play was. It would have worked.
  4. Then you complain when they try to run outside.
  5. The tight ends are used for runs. And, if they get open, he’d throw it to him. But, you want more thrown to Roberts. Make up your mind.
  6. Yes, he was mostly double teamed.

It was stated clearly in the post game show that a defensive player was switched to OL. May not been a started.

Mitchell played on defensive line last year. Switched to OL this year.

He also started at Center for Pay for three games and did a great job. So why is Hopper saying the change is not important?

BTW, Mitchell played both defensive and offensive line in high school.

So, you admit I didn’t lie…

So here are the problems I see. For context number one leads to number two that leads to number three and so on and so forth

  1. Subpar offensive coordinator
  2. Overall lack of discipline on the offense
  3. Cohesion of the offense falling apart
  4. Lack of fight and aggression on the offense
  5. Offensive line isn’t getting the push or protection they should.
  6. Running backs being tackled on first hit
  7. Receivers not running good routes
  8. Lack of use of the tight end

Why I think we were good at the beginning of the year.

  1. Offensive cohesion
  2. Discipline not by the coaches but by the players.
  3. Aggressive play and a desire to win

Once the team started to get banged up and the cohesion being put to the test there was no leadership at the top to help them stick together and keep going.

Well, it’s a good try. However, the players would disagree with most of it. The coaches were very disciplined and the players say they responded from game to the next game to get better. This continued as other teams did the same thing. Only, the teams we lost to had early on injuries and then when those players came back, BYU players were getting injured and banged up.
We will need to continue to recruit and develop new players from high school and the portal at the 4 and 5 star level to do what we did this year and build a program of success from year to year with more depth.
As fans, we need to work at cheering the team on instead of being Debbie Downers and Camilla Complainers. Everything will be great next season too. This is a great season!

I said you lied about what Tom predicted the seaon was going to be, you remember the 3-9 comment?
