I find this interesting about Coach Young

He is running his team through an NBA type combine that helps determine players athletic ability and skills.

I think this is the best really good way to actually show what a players base set is before the season starts.

BYU basketball: Why Kevin Young is staging an NBA-style combine – Deseret News

Very interesting comments about Stewart and his athleticism. If the combine test is equivalent, he beat an NBA record. Makes me wonder the coaching that went on the past few years. Maybe pope’s conservatism prevented him from having a star on his team. I hope young can coach him up but I don’t know how he finds room to play this year. Maybe he red shirts. He deserved better.

He’s always shown talent. Maybe he will get a real shot with all this talent.

Stewart could not hit the open shot.

That’s because all they did was shoot 3’s. With a downhill offense to the basket, we may see a different player.

What I have noticed in watching sports for 50 years is that some players do better under one coach than another coach. It is not the coach’s or players fault that he has his ways of doing things that may or may not work for the player.

For example, Steve Young sucked in the USFL and at Tampa Bay, but became a NFL legend at SF? Why? because Coach Walsh system worked better for Steve.

I can say the same thing about former jazz players under Sloan, who thought they were “it” and burned-out fast Sheldon Anderson, Blue Edwards, Bryon Russell, are just a few names.

I think Coach Young will develop players based on their talent and not because of the system he installs.

It’s the system. Coaches teach the same basics. But if the system doesn’t use your real strengths, then you don’t get to use your strengths.
