Jake Heaps with another shot at the NFL

Looks like he signed with the Jets and appears to just be a camp arm, but stranger things have happened in the history of the NFL. Hope he makes the most of it and makes their practice squad. Would be good to see him get a break.

Jake Heaps just signed with the Jets. Looks like he will get more than the practice squad. Some people mature later than others. Apo tried out with the Sea Hawks. Don’t know how that went.

Here we have 2 posts regarding Jake Heaps signing with the Jets. It is interesting how a person’s understanding or relative knowledge about the subject matter or topic is reflected in his reply.

KC states that Heaps has “signed” but that it would appear to be only as an arm to assist the coaches in their evaluation of the many players who come to camp, not necessarily meaning that he will be selected or make the final cut for a roster spot. Initially this makes the most sense but certainly gives Heaps an opportunity to show his talents.

SG states that Heaps has “signed” but to him that means more than practice squad and he draws a conclusion that Heaps has matured later and will likely be a member of the team. It is apparent that SG may not completely understand the process of making a nfl roster.

This same process that we observe here can be applied to other topics of discussion for sure. So many of us assume we have all the answers or we know the truth because of all the “facts” we have supposedly observed.

Interesting for sure…

I wish him the best. I doubt it will last but it would be cool if it did. I am still baffled by those that thought he was mishandled, mistaught, misunderstood. He was terrible as a freshman but then did OK to good against very poor competition. As a sophomore he was terrible all around. He was benched for poor performance. He could have worked on his game, fought to get back the starting position during the season, and then worked really hard to be the guy as a junior. Instead he quit and ran away before the bowl game. If the coaches did what exactly would he have been the next Heisman QB? What could they have done to make his play less craptastic? The Tinman already had courage before the got the heart shaped watch. Would have a heart shaped watch have helped him pull himself up by the boot straps?

At Kansas he played as poorly as he did as a sophomore before earning the bench and then quitting, again. Miami gave Jake only 12 pass attempts during game time. A freshman, far less hyped and rated out of HS and will far less D1 experience hands down outplayed Jake.

Jake has has more chances than most to prove himself on the field during game time and three sets of coaches and countless fans have been disappointed. He must be awesome in practice but for some reason struggles mightily during game time. I hope this changes for him. I hope he finds the capacity to overcome HIS QB failings. Again, most do not get as many chances as Jake got. Glad he has earned another chance. He will have to be amazing for the Jet to keep him. History says his stay there will be short. We all love sports miracles. Maybe he will be the next Tom Brady, less the PSI issues.

Lastly, we all gave Jake all the love, hopes, and prayers we could that he would be the next Detmer, Young, McMahon, etc. It was only after he proved himself unfit time after time that we realized we were sadly wrong. I take offense to those who say the coaches and fans turned on him for evil reasons. I say Jake turned on us, cut and ran.
