Why are we finally seeing Hartsock on the floor after all these games? Wonder why it took soo long. We all knew he had a great shot, unlike any of the other bigs. He is a strong rebounder, has a motor. All he really needs is game minutes.
We are 10 games from the end of the season and Kaufusi, Chatman, Hartsock and to some extent, Saljaas are finally getting serious gametime minutes. The 10 games we had at the beginning of the year, we saw very little of these guys and a whole lot of KC and Fischer. These newbies are the future, they have the upside and yet they sat through most of the pre-WCC season and now that Rose feels that he has to change some things in order to improve, we finally see these guys. Kaufusi, especially has no idea how good he can be but there was a minute out there when he flat out dominated. Dunk, Monster Swat, layup, layup, and he is playing behind Austin??? Drives me freckin’ nuts.
Austin’s strength is rebounding and rolling in the ground :-~
Hartsoch was 1 for 4 shooting. One 3 and 5 rebounds.
Fisher was 4 - 8 from 3 land. So, what happened with the other 6 short shots?
The Kyles had good games. However, Rose has to give Davis a rest sooner. That 2 foot layup that went 1 foot? Tired and lack of concentration.
Who is Guinn? He should have been played more too.
We were better prepared for LMU even though it took some time for it to show. That makes me nervous about PU Saturday.
Every time he plays, Kaufusi makes at least one play that no other big man on the team can physically make, and that stretch tonight showed the athleticism that only a handful of BYU bigs EVER have shown. It is mind boggling to me that he doesn’t play at least 20+mpg and live with the consequences.
Against some defenses he does well. Others he has looked lost. If he could stay consistant and under control like tonight he could be a difference maker the rest of the way.
everything points to confidence with Corbin. He just needs more time on the floor. I could say that about Chatman and Hartsock as well. None of these dudes are anywhere close to their upside. We pretty much know the upside of our rotation guys so why now and not in the pre season.
I know what Coach Few would do or would of done. He works for the Post season while Rose works in the present.
Give Nate some credit. He is BYU’s all-time leader in offensive rebounds. You can’t get all those rebounds after tripping and laying on the ground.
Perhaps Coach Rose has such a high winning percentage overall because this is his habit.
At the beginning of the year, experienced players even if they do not have the talent of the newer guys start. As the year goes along the new guys get more minutes.
Usually BYU dominates the last go around in conference because Rose started exactly what he did last night. Get the less experienced guys more time on the court.
I predict that give the home slate the rest of the year, and the 20+ point winning margins at home, that Kaufusi, Chatman and Hartsock will see a lot of time on the floor.
Kaufusi will be needed in tournament play after the regular season. Chatman’s defence will be a plus as well. I haven’t seen Hartsock enough to know…
