Kaufusi leaving Basketball

I am not trying to just pick on Jim about his comments… Sorry Jim if I came across a bit rude.

I have noticed that there is a real issue in how people discuss issues in this country, instead of being able to share ideas and views, we become toxic and viral in our interactions. We judge other people’s motives without any actual proof.

After watching conference a couple of weeks ago, it has been on my mind lately. I watch how the media pundits attack in a negative way anything Trump does, also I see where the “conservatives” are the same way with the other side.

Jason Chaffetz has announced he is not running for office, why? “because we can no longer talk about our different views, we have to be toxic with the opposing side”. In fact, one of them went so far as to look for his car (the person was carrying a gun).

I know this is basketball forum, but can we all tone down the negative comments, stop assuming we know what a player or coach feels?

Just my two cents worth.,…

How do you know Haws is jealous of Beo? :unamused:
Bergeron or whatever his name is looks good. We won’t miss Beo.

There is no definitive decision by Mika. He’s doing what Jimmer and Haws did along with others. He doesn’t have an agent yet. If he gets one then he’s gone. But not until. Hope that helps

Who was looking for his car? Is this a credible source you have? He said he was getting out of the House because he wants to be home more for his family and because he’s for term limits and is doing what he has been trying for.
Also, the liberals, leftists and Democrats have been deranged over Trump winning. But I don’t see the same derangement on the right.

So far Mika is just trying out just like the others, well except Shawn Bradley :-1:
And no agent so far.

sthey had an article in the paper where they interviewed Jason… he himself made the statement that security warned him about not going out without them because of this threat.

you don’t remember making all those disparaging remarks about Obama? must be getting old.

Obama deserved every condemnation he got. After 8 years, we Americans are a hateful people once again. Neighbor against neighbor, brother against brother and nation against nation. We are a poorer nation spiritually and monetarily.

After 4 years of Carter, the people figured it out how bad liberalism and socialism is. But, because of decades of erosion of our spiritually nationwide, after 4 years of Obama we re-elected him. Hope Trump can turn some of it around.

This may be the only time I agree with Hopper on his whole post!

I certainly hope that not a single freshman leaves this team as I have no confidence in the coaching staff to properly evaluate our freshman.

This next season will either show that Rose can and will get a hold of this program if Rose will step down.

I hope coach Haws and coach Emery step back and let coach Rose do what he has done in the past. He has done better with lesser talent… it’s just that this team still thinks they are playing high school basketball and, after all, they were the mythical national champions in high school.

As far as the team getting along, yes the LP boys get along great… including Frampton, who knew his role on the high school team and will accept it. For a team that got along so well, they seemed to have some players that didn’t… and were told to seek greener pastures or were squeezed out by the culture and pervasive nature of wasatch front basketball.

My impression of the basketball team was that all the players got along fine. Maybe what you are getting at is that the players that weren’t getting the playing time they felt they deserved were unhappy. As anyone who has ever coached knows, you can’t make everyone happy. Coach Rose has acknowledged that he has not shared court time evenly and has tried to get the bench players to buy into the philosophy that if they bide their time and work really hard, their time will come. Or, he will point out how much fun it is to be a part of a team and have the D-1 basketball experience even though your role on the team will be more as a relief player rather than a key guy. The players have realized that there is no guarantee that they will ever get the playing time they feel they deserve and for most players, it isn’t enough to just be on the team. Rose could sell that idea at one time but kids aren’t buying it today. Kids don’t want to be a role player…someone willing to relinquish their minutes for the “good of the team” according to the coach. Beo saw the log jam at his position and it became clear what his role would be on this team. Same with Aytes. If you don’t like your role, you had better have a change in attitude or change in programs. Rose is going to have to manage his players differently if he wants bench players to stick around for four years. He’s got to develop players better so that he can feel comfortable using them in games.

seems everyone in the world understands that point except for Rose. The perfect storm would be if Mika comes back and Dastrup chooses to leave because he is buried behind Mika. or…Dastrup leaves because he did not like riding pine from last season and does not trust Rose. This all could have been avoided if Rose would play these guys when we are blowing out a team.

Rose loves his rotations of just the core 7 or 8 guys but if you want to quit hemorrhaging talent, you have to play the bench…Da.

Dastrup? He wasn’t close to be ready for D1 ball. Hopefully he is working really hard during the off season…

I assume you read from Jay Drew (SLTrib) that he was out of shape which he did admit it. But I was confused why not use him at some few minutes between each games like at mid point in the game to rest Mika. There has been too many games that Dastrup didn’t play. Sure he was cheerleading in the game or was he working out to get in shape? He does have talents in handling the ball when we saw him play but benching him won’t help him to develop the skill he needs. I am sure he will be working out hard during off season but if he doesn’t get enough playing time next season with or w/o Mika next year then Dastrup might move on or something will change at BYU.
And yes Dave Rose need play more to those bench players. If Haws continue like he did last year then he needs to be bench more and possible along with Emery.

According to the TV guys for BYUTV, he was really overweight and not in good playing condition when he returned from his mission.

That is one reason Rose limited his minutes, because he simply got “Gased” during the games.

Rose used to love playing 9-10 guys.
Time and talent have gotten him used to playing less.
At the beginning of the season last fall he was exulting that he would be able to play so many guys the way he used to…didn’t turn out that way.
with Bryant injury at the beginning of the year and then Beo’s refusal to look for his shot. Aytes himself said he was still having problems getting his explosiveness back after his injury so he wasn’t as much use as he could be and was still tentative about getting injured by playing to hard to quickly. Dastrup clearly wasn’t up to lots of time…still beyond me why it didn’t increase at all as the season developed. Kaufusi didn’t adapt to bball as quickly or as well as either he or coach expected…Guinn…he wasn’t going on to a future of bball anyway so get on with life or play another year? really not much of a choice no matter who was coaching.

When all said and done, we don’t lose anything significant to transfers or football. We have talent coming back and in. See what happens. Hope Mika stays one more year.

the door is still open…he still hasn’t signed an agent…just can’t see an NBA team taking him…the minimum wage of the d league and its abysmal record actually developing players doesn’t seem like much of a future either.

His mission, and his wife’s mission, in Italy does seem to offer him a bright future playing fun bball overseas though…
though it is not NBA money it certainly would be a clearer path to the development necessary for the NBA than the d league…better than the Div1 stage is clearly debatable. No nationwide player of the weeks splashing in front of the NBA scouts…

This is something I just don’t understand so we will have to disagree again. There is a big difference between not looking for your shot and not having the feeling that you are allowed to look for your shot. I think it was the latter. Why? because I saw a lot of players “not looking for their shot” and there are only so many shots to be had in a game. We know who was taking the majority of the shots, but only one of the LP3 was making those shots consistently.

It’s called bad chemistry and this team had lots of it.

The reason is clear. Rose simply relied to heavily on his player-coaches from the Lone Peak program. The whole situation was a killer for the team overall, plain and simple.

THe worst thing about all of this is the fact that BYU was the only other team besides North Carolina to beat Gonzaga this past season. It was sort of an exclamation point on what could have been, something we have become used to as BYU fans. It’s the same song and a different verse is all.

We didn’t beat Gonzaga with those role players. Is that a clue you can wrap your head around and understand;-)
Beo was simply not ready for prime time. Neither was Dastrup.
