Mboup is a product of the NBA Academy Africa in Senegal, where he had been training alongside 20 other professional prospects and was coached by current BYU assistent Will Voigt. He turned 18 in September and reclassified to the class of 2024 from 2025 in order to join the Cougars sooner.
According to McCombs Mboup will likely redshirt for the 2024-25 campaign, Considered a project, he will grow exponentially his redshirt year.
