Losing to TTU at home

This game was lost on

1 Free Throws, are you kidding me

2 Senior leadership fails. Hall has 3 turnovers.

3 leaving TTU’s sharp shooters wide open
The guy that leads the nation in 3s…Hawkins, has 6 wide open uncontested 3s. good job

and here I thought BYU was a better defensive team…big joke

4 No wonder KY has to go to zone most of the night. BYU does not know how to fight through a screen.

5 our bench players, Foos and Mag, the only 2 BYU players in double digits.

6 Trevin Knell was their punching bag alll night long…oh yeah…all night long, sing it

7 18% from 3land at home. Would like thank Demin 0-4, Knell 0-3, Catchings 0-2 and Hall 1-5
at home

Wait, Demin hit a 3 at the end. He’s out of his slump.
Here we go again with free throws being the main Achilles heal. And 20% from 3’s at home? What’s going on?

Mag and Saunders are our best defenders by a mile. They are also bright spots on an anemic offense.
Shooting Woes Doom BYU Basketball in Loss to Texas Tech

Shooting woes doomed the Cougars on Tuesday night. BYU shot just 22% from the three-point line, going 5/23 from deep. The free throw line was the difference in the game for BYU. The Cougars made just 12/23 free throws.

BYU outscored Texas Tech by 10 points in the paint, but it didn’t matter. Texas Tech outscored BYU by 15 points from the three-point line

Is he overlooked because he is only 6’2? BYU allows him 9 open looks at the basket from 3land. makes 6. That’s 18 free points for TTU.

BYU misses half their FTs, That’s 11 free points for TTU.
Let that sink in…

I thought the hilarious stat of the night…Coach Young subs in Stewart in the last 30 secs of the 1st half, to protect the starters from a cheap foul…And he hits the long 3. You’re sittin me over Knell? priceless

Guard play was poor. 7 assists, 5 turnover, 2/10 shooting from 3, but one in the last 10 seconds, so really 1/9. Mawot was a bright spot. What is slightly frustrating is that even with this poor play, we could have beat them.

The TTU coach in his post game press conference said that BYU came out very physical and disrupted their offense. It appears they learned some lessons from Houston. BYU kept TTU below their normal offensive numbers, so defense was decent, even with leaving people open.

I am wondering if I need to adjust my expectations. Maybe it’s hard for a new coach to come in and establish his offense, defense, and culture. Maybe Young needs a year to learn how to coach at the college level. I hope our boosters have patience, because I don’t feel like we are getting a good return on investment for NIL.

With Dybantis and Staton, they will be patient. With Demin and Castings, what a great potential team.

Stop calling him Castings, it’s CATCHINGS!

The only thing casting about it is you trolling a cast to get a reaction. I think we can leave the fishing comments to fish, he’s the expert.

Anyhow, what a bad loss. Not that TTU isn’t a good team because they obviously are a very good team but BYU did so many of the basic things so badly that there is really no excuse for losing that game. How many missed free throws? barely 50% from the FREE throw line. How many missed shots from underneath the basket/layups. It was probably less than 50% shooting from inside 3 feet. How many wide open, uncontested 3’s did BYU give up on defense? So many I lost count but it had to be close to 10 or more. Just so many of the basic basketball things were done wrong…

Recipe for losing at home.

I forgot to include that out of 12-21 missed FTs, 5 were the front end of One and Ones, so the impact was more like 12-26 FTs. Can’t remember a BYU team this bad from the charity line.

Some of the misses were at least 6” to the right or left from 15 feet away with no defender. That’s just not concentrating.

I think it’s a mistake for KY to treat Richie like a “glue guy,” almost never ever running plays for him. This team DESPERATELY needs somebody to create his own shot, and Richie can do that.

I may claw my eyes out next time I see Hall randomly dribble or basically hold the ball 30 feet from the basket until the shot clock winds down……

Out rebounded for the second game in a row by a smaller team.

I predicted the loss due to just awful play by our two PGs and that’s exactly what happened. Demin was a TINY but better but still bad, and I have no explanation for Hall. I mean, he was a pretty good B12 guard most of last year…BUT….then he got DESTROYED on D most of the back end of the season….now he looks like a total liability on both ends….

Could we just start Demin, Stewart, Richie, Mag, and Keiba? IDK what we give up on offense but our offense sucks anyway. But At least we could play knee-to-knee man with that lineup and maybe not give up 100 wide open 3s next game.

I’m doing a little midnight venting here but I really love BYU basketball and this group is REALLY testing me!!!

Stewart? He hit that 3. Did he play in the second half? Actually, the score was rather low scoring for most of the game. TTU caught some fire in the last 7-8 minutes. So, not sure if the defense was all that bad. They didn’t shoot lights out like they have been until the end part of the game.
Hit the front ends of one and ones. Don’t miss the first 4 free throws. The game ends up to be a win. This team has to learn how to win like the football team did most of the year.
Also, Fouss scored for us. Keiba didn’t. Start Fouss and get some points to start off the games. Get Castings some plays where he can drive and score more (that was for Jim ). Saunders will make plays. And, run more plays for Hall to get into the lane with a screen. Most of all, tomorrow should be all about free throw shooting. I thought we had that problem fixed.

Just curious Jim, how close are you to the fires?

Stay safe…

We are both far away this time. Thanks for asking. However, they have turned of the electricity now for several hours.

Glad you guys are safe.
they reported the palisades area, the fire hydrants didnt even have water or low pressure.

Gavin Newsome’s California. Yes, liberal policies are to blame.

A Newsome presidency would be a disaster - in a way could be worse than Biden (hard to imagine) or a Harris presidency (just plain scary) because he is rizz and actually intelligent. He’ll fool a lot of the public like no one before and “get away” with it.

That’s what happened 6 years ago in the Thomas Fire here that burned down hundreds of homes. Instead of spending billions on climate change nonsense, they should just make sure the basics are taken care of like proper forest maintenance and that there is plenty of water pressure in the hills. More firemen as well without the DEI nonsense.

Maybe he should think about becoming Canadian and be their new Prime Minister.

I think I drew blood on mine. I am baffled by this very noticeable and puzzling aspect of the offense and Hall’s game. Is he being told to dribble up slowly and deliberately holding the ball for what seems like an eternity until he decides to pass or start an offensive set? I don’t get it. He has looked so bad this season. The entire team looked lost the last two games and the silly, bad news bears type turnovers are embarrassing. It looks like a high school team that knows they won’t win the game. Super frustrating.

As for everything posted after that I agree with it all. Also everything burned up around us a few years ago with the Thomas fire (started near Thomas Aquinas college between Santa Paula and Ojai where the Hopper and I live) and then it has seemed to get worse. This state has so many issues and now problems that I don’t think it will ever end until the politics and perspective of what matters changes and I think it may be too far gone to do that.

everything about this horrific fire points to those in charge, Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass focused on social policies.

Who is to blame for the Los Angeles wildfires? | Opinion – Deseret News
What’s unfolding in LA is both a natural disaster and a “man-made catastrophe,” as The Free Press put it.

The devastation is, in part, the result of a drought that had turned vegetation into kindling, and the Santa Ana winds, which threw embers that ignited new fires and which inhibited firefighting efforts. The devastation is surely also a failure of foresight and leadership, made evident by reports of water tanks and fire hydrants running dry.
pundits quickly discovered that the official bio of the Los Angeles fire chief, Kristin Crowley, says her priorities are “creating, supporting, and promoting a culture that values diversity, inclusion, and equity while striving to meet and exceed the expectations of the communities.”

Blame is also being assigned to Democrats generally, with some predicting that Newsom’s national political prospects are going up in smoke as memes circulate of him with Los Angeles burning in the background.
When talking to Newsom, he replied; “Look, the local folks are going to have to figure that out.” He literally just ended his political career with that answer.
Me: Don’t think so, there are so many stupid people out there that believe these crooks, they’ll pin it on Gobel Warming and not miss a beat.
