Massive fire in Malibu

I’m not trying to minimize what’s happening in the Malibu area, but it seems like every year for the past four or five years, there’s been another massive fire burning towns, forests, and more in California.

I consider myself an environmentalist, but not in the way some might think. I was raised as an outdoorsman practicing “No trace camping,” which means leaving the area better than we found it and never destroying the natural beauty of the outdoors. Around my cabin, I keep the underbrush clear and cleaned up according to forest service rules.

So, maybe someone from California or at least the West Coast can help. Are all these fires caused because California and certain groups have restricted the cleaning up of underbrush? Or is there another issue I’m not aware of?

Well, the town I live in had a fire a couple of weeks ago in the hills that burned down a couple hundred homes including my nieces home. Still don’t know what started it. Usually, it’s a fire bug. Then, the winds carry it. Sometimes electrical wires break and start fires. Generally during Santana Winds called around here Santa Ana winds. Up north in tree country, fire bugs, bad liberal Democrat forest mismanagement.

It’s a combination of things and I believe they are all political. Too many experts and lawsuit happy people in this state who think they are going to save the world. What you mentioned is one of the problems but there are a whole lot more that I don’t have the time to go into. Those reasons are the same ones involved with all of societies problems. Money, greed, politics and three more… money, greed and politics.

There was a massive fire a couple months ago nearby that burned down several hundered homes as well. There was another a few years ago that started over in the Hoppers territory and burned toward me and then kept burning north all the way to Santa Barbara. Several hundred homes burned down and our homeowners insurance tripled. It was just more of the same… why do you think people are leaving this state in droves?

Yeah, I love it when the news tells everyone that conditions are ripe for wildfires with santa ana winds coming and very dry conditions and then sure enough, within 24 hours a fire breaks out because some mentally ill person does their thing or SCE gets blamed because of the power lines getting knocked down. I was watching the news last night and they were saying all this stuff and I thought… why are you encouraging some knucklehead? there are millions in this state.

It’s crazy.

These fire pits started in the 60s when cities issued building permits for areas that are continuing to slide with spring rains after a fire.

You can’t rip up underbrush and burn it, edict from Dems, newsom. goes against Green agendas

Some cities use goats to clean up grasses and weeds (who dry up and become the fire machines)

Native americans, every spring throughout the Western US would burn land for either planting or encourage new plant life and improve hunting…that all went away and with it came uncontrollable fires. Fires pre white man were always there but did not burn hot because the undergrowth was burned often. Post White Man, fires have become killers.

So if you want to fix the Caly problem, you have to burn, pure and simple

My dad always you use to say “that if we don’t take care of the land, Nature will find a way to do it for us”. The question is: “Who wants to take control?”

In grad school at BYU, we spent the semester studying California landslides, fires and how people were building in areas that could NEVER sustain development. Just like Utah developing Wetlands, $$$$ will always circumvent laws meant to protect environment, and create catastrophes.
