Max Hall comments

"It’s no secret we were not good at running the football last year,” former BYU quarterback Max Hall said to the “Y’s Guys” podcast. “A big part of A-Rod’s (Aaron Roderick) offense is play-action. If you can’t run the ball, play-action isn’t going to work as well as you want.”

We need to get more creative in the run game,” Hall said. “They also need a great signal caller who can manage everything and make plays when needed, but it comes down to running the football. "

Don’t know if Max Hall knows his stuff or not. Way more credible than me and probably all or most of us on this site. May not be a dig at ARod, but certainly an admonishment.
ARod is “on the clock” if you will. Better produce or launch him.

A good OC would adjust his offensive scheme to match what his talent has. Look at Doug Scovil as an example with McMahon, Young and Bosco.

BYU had some very good running backs and honestly had some good success running the ball on occasion. Why they didn’t stick with it when it was working boggles the mind.

The problem was not so much being able to run the football, it was an OC who CHOSE not to run the football, instead opting for ridiculous gadget plays and trickery in an attempt to fool the opponent.

The only one being “fooled” was the OC… into looking like one.

Hmm… that sounds harsh. Reality bites sometimes.

I think Max was showing some „professional courtesy“ with nice way to say it but it’s a pretty directed message when you read behind the lines
It’s what EVERYONE has been saying here with just one discredited exception.
