Okay, take your blue goggles off and

Think about how BYU basketball is ranked by the votes of the BIG12 coaches.

Apparently, they think we are #9, do you think that is about right, too low or too high???

Here’s where BYU, Utah hoops were picked to finish in Big 12 by league coaches | KSL.com

So, the coaches aren’t paying attention to our lineup changes, who we have recruited and how we did last year as well. I know other teams are probably recruiting well too. I doubt any have improved like we have.

considering, BYU could probably of been mid big 12 with it’s players from last year, taking no consideration of who BYU signed after KY came to BYU…this poll is laughable.

i will take anyone to dinner if BYU can’t crack the top 7. hahahahaha

Try BYU will be in the top 5 and 30% chance to in the top 4

From what I’ve seen and read, looks like everyone had a really good night except for Knell who was 1 for 11 shooting. There’s not reason why we have players tired in the 2nd half of any game. With the depth, we can play aggressively for 49 minutes and wear teams down.

Coaches from Big 12 Conference at number nine? Well, that sound better than what we were picked last year right? Are we better than number nine this year? I think we are better than that and maybe that will help prove them wrong. What they pick in this conference! Lol!!!
Maybe those coaches are feeling good about their team and that they are wearing their own color goggles. We shall see.

I think one reason why the coaches pick BYU #9 is that they have not seen how KY coaches in games, it’s nice we have all this “Fluff and Puff” going on about KY but do we really know how he will do as a college coach?

Not saying he won’t be good, but it is like in Football, until they proved it on the field, did we really know how good Jay Hill was going to be in the BIG12?

hahaahahahahhahahhhaha…awh Knell. He’s making KY’s decision easy.

Guys like Knell and Catchings are going to find out real early who gets playing time. If scoring is not an issue with this team and it won’t be…Those who defend get the most minutes.

I am very high on Meg being a starter…and Richie and possibly Baker. so where does that put Knell and Catchings and if Knell is the starter, which would not surprise me for a second, he would be like the past 2 years, a starter in spirit only because he either figures out defense or he does not get minutes unless you can hide him. And he may not even get into games when we play ISU or Kansas etc…

I thought I filleted that out when I posted on KY’s practice. As an example, both Rose and Pope focused on 3 point shooting in practice time. KY, not a single second. He is all about breaking down 3 on 3 defense and 3 on 3 offense.

Why 3 on 3 you ask?

LOL, 9th, LOL. case in point. Kansas, last year was pathetic by Self’s standards and they failed by not scoring enough. They had Dickerson, the 5 star point guard Harris Jr, their enforcer Adams Jr and the Ozzy, Furphy…who goes pro? Fuphy, their worst defender, who also was their most consistent scorer. just how are they going to win the big 12 when they had to bring in a whole lot of transfers who can score???
Bill Self is going to rely on his big 3 for consistency and give Big 12 nightmares by using Dickerson to brutalize teams inside (AKA Gonzaga’s center who kept Gonzaga in games for years) while most teams in the big 12 don’t have centers that can defend Dickerson, BYU has TWO! Foos and Keba and a 3rd if you want to count 6’11 Boscovic, who is super athletic and a inside block party.

good luck with that 9th place, LOL.
Actually, I think I am having my blue goggles cleaned so I can wear them ALOT

Kansas picked to win Big 12, Dickinson selected as top player - ESPN

IRVING, Texas – Big 12 coaches tabbed Kansas as the preseason favorite to win a conference that had nine of its current teams make the men’s NCAA tournament last season.

The Jayhawks were picked ahead of Houston, Iowa State, Baylor and league newcomer Arizona in a vote by the conference’s 16 coaches that was released Thursday. Cincinnati, Texas Tech, Kansas State, BYU and TCU rounded out the top 10, followed by UCF, Arizona State, West Virginia, Oklahoma State, Colorado and Utah.

With coaches not allowed to vote for their own teams, Kansas got nine of the 15 possible first-place votes. Houston got five, while Iowa State and Arizona split the other two.

Kansas center Hunter Dickinson was picked as the preseason player of the year. The 7-foot-2 center averaged 17.9 points and a Big 12-best 10.9 rebounds last season.

Dickinson was the only unanimous pick for the preseason All-Big 12 team that also included Houston’s L.J. Cryer and J’Wan Roberts, Iowa State’s Tamin Lipsey and Arizona’s Caleb Love.

Baylor guard Jeremy Roach and Kansas State guard Coleman Hawkins shared the preseason newcomer of the year honor after they led their respective teams to the NCAA Elite Eight last season. Roach averaged 14 points and 3.3 assists for Duke, and Hawkins averaged 12.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists at Illinois.

Bears guard VJ Edgecombe was voted as the preseason freshman of the year.

Here’s how little BYU is looked at by these coaches.
As Floyd points out, Maybe KY is overlooked because he is new to college basketball?

KY has been a head coach in the D league twice. in 2020. On October 9, 2020, Young was named assistant coach of the Phoenix Suns, reuniting with head coach Monty Williams after a season together as assistant coaches with the 76ers.[5] In his first season with Phoenix, he not only helped the team reach the NBA playoffs for the first time since 2010, but also reach the NBA Finals for the first time since 1993. On August 7, 2021, Young was promoted to the role of associate head coach of the Suns.[6] In his first year as associate head coach, Young became the Suns’ acting head coach for a four game stretch in late December and early January, while Monty Williams was in health and safety protocols.[7] Following Young’s four game stint as acting head coach, Chris Paul said, "“He did a great job…KY will be a head coach very soon in this league.”[8]

2- VJ Edgecombe was voted Fr. preseason newcomer of the year.

2024 #6 Overall 5-Star Guard VJ Edgecombe Commits to Scott Drew, Baylor Over Duke, Kentucky - Our Daily Bears
He is 17 as is Egor Demin.
Egor Demin is 6’8 and played point guard for Real Madrid over the past 3 years
Now…ask me who I would take? A big time scorer, 6’5 Edgecombe or a 6’8 point guard who by the way was playing professionally for the past 3 years?

BYU also has a 22 yr old with 3 years prof. experience Boscovic coming in as a Fr. -Fiba MVP.

OK, last season coaches predicted that BYU would end up at 13. And we end up at Fifth place out of 14 teen conference.
Now this year with 16 teams conference and Big12 coaches are saying we are to end up at ninth? Mathematically, we will end up first place this season wow that is really nice!
Did that sum it up?

lol what a joke. BYU hasn’t played one game yet and they are better defensively than last year by a wide margin. They are also better offensively in the paint. What remains to be seen is how good their perimeter shooting will be, but I’m guessing, at least as good as last year

Sounds like Catchings is a good defender. Just not great, yet. It also sounds like KY is working with him to get better. With his talent, should happen. However, he’s such an offensive threat to keep him off the court won’t happen.

Top five
Bill Self–he seems to have taken last year to heart, a HoF coach who has a fire in his belly is tough to beat especially with his NIL reloaded roster.
Kelvin Sampson–probably the best coach in the league coming off a national coach of the year award and what looks to be an even better roster after a well earned number 1 seed last year. If he hadn’t angered so many IU alum Hoosiers would still be considered blue bloods.
Tommy Lloyd–first year in conference so like KY a bit of an unknown, however more NBA talent on his team than any other on any team in the NCAA…and shout out to KHS Scotties…
Scott Drew–reloaded roster with best team since his recent national championship…glad he turned down BBN wish Pope all the best…BBMadness with Pope and Pitino was good too see.

If KYU can break into the top 5 this season it will be a HoF worthy season…hopefully the first of many…

but to be in the top 7 means the competition is
Cincinatti, Texas Tech, Kansas State
Cincinatti has plenty of experience…
TT beat Pope at home and in the tourney last year and is improved
KSU talented coach on the hot seat with a more talented roster than last year.

I expect KYU in at number 6 maybe 7, I want to look at kenpom and Miyakawa game per game for the league…I think the schedule will make the difference between KYU breaking into the top 5 or dropping all the way to 7.
