Once Biden is gone. Who will be the nominee?

What option is that? People are sick and tired of politicians Floyd. I’d vote for you but your dream of people voting for a third aprty candidate won’t happen and neither party is going to give up power. They will steal the election if necessary.

That’s the single biggest issue we are dealing with today. The high and mighty have no clue what it’s like to struggle and be stressed and wonder how they will feed their children. Their biggest concern is whether their luggage gets misplaced on their flight to the bahamas or europe. I’m so tired of the phony words and concerns for those who struggle to survive every day. Politicians are at the top of the list. They just don’t care. Next up are the wealthy elite and we have a lot of those in church ranks. We need to get back on track but I don’t hold out much hope.

The world according to Floyd is that everyone who is prosecuted and found guilty of a crime is a criminal and bad, anyone who isn’t prosecuted or accused of a crime is innocent of any wrongdoing. I am so glad I will be judged by an intelligent and kind Heavenly Father who really knows what I have done that is right and wrong and not some politically motivated, vengeful, deceitful human being. I hate to burst your bubble there but there will be lots of people who think they have gotten away with things because they skirted some bogus, man made rule or law that will have a rude awakening when they find out they didn’t.

It’s true that man allows for laws and rulings that are not moral or ethical. Abortion is a perfect example. Then, some loopholes are moral and evil while others are not but allowed and considered legal. Venture capitalists fit both. When a business is struggling and ready to fail, the reasons have to be looked at for judgment on whether the business can be saved or not. If not, can it be divided up and some of the parts are able to survive. I tend to think Mitt probably makes good judgments. But, he’s not perfect. Hostile takeovers are nasty and hurt many. Has he done this? I don’t know.
Here’s something to think about. The Church I thing still owns Beneficial Finance. They quit selling life insurance a couple of decades ago. There’s a type of life insurance that is in my opinion competes dishonest . It’s called universal life insurance. Imagine investing in it for 30 years expecting a couple hundred thousand dollars or more in the cash value account and finding out it’s all gone because the cost of the insurance picks at it until nothing is left. It’s legal. Is it moral? Beneficial used to sell it. There are policies still on the books dying a slow death. Hmmm…
What I do know is Mitt would rather allow the country and world die a slow death by supporting unethical and immoral Democrat politicians because Trump is a meanie and an unpolished politician. I’m fine with that.

One point of clarification: Trump has never filed personal bankruptcy, only corporate bankruptcy related to some of his business interests.

LIke most reasonable buisnessmen he creates separate entities for his separate businesses. …Do you fault Joseph Smith for his bankruptcy too?

I don’t like trump at all but get your facts straight…Trump bankruptcies are some of his business going bankrupt. and all Chapter 11. As near as I can tell all the businesses are still functioning just in several cases without Trump control…
Personally I think going into the casino business is sleazy itself…but like much of NY sleazy is operative.

Hey, I ran into this from the Gipper. Enjoy.

Sorry I should have made that clearer, I was talking about corporate bankruptcy.

Your right Jim, but who are we to just someone else, when we do not have all the facts? We read internet articles as if they are a source of truth, but they are not. You can google “Mormons are a cult” and find things from legit media sources, but are we a cult? No, of course not.

Is your view a bit jaded by personal experience?
Do you ever shop at a staples store? You can thank Bain Capital for turning it around.
Bain Capital when Mitt was running it had the following goals:

  1. Consulting-Based Approach: They use a consulting-based approach to private equity investing, partnering closely with management teams to improve operations and build great businesses.
  2. Investment Strategy: The firm uses a strategic, fact-based, and diligence-driven investment approach. This includes considering environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors in their investment decisions
  3. Diverse Asset Classes: They invests in a wide range of asset classes, including private equity, public equity, fixed income, credit, venture capital, and real estate. This diversification helps them manage risk and capitalize on various market opportunities.
  4. Creating Value: Create lasting impact for their investors, businesses, and communities. They focus on building strong partnerships, challenging conventional thinking, and driving positive change.

There is a wonderful tool now available to us to help find sources of truth, it is called AI

Like I said Jim, you can feel and think what you want. It doesn’t make you “Right” or “Wrong”, it just how your environment has taught you to see things. The same is true for me or Hopper or Fish or Aro, etc.

The real issue for me personally, is that you dismiss my viewpoints as being invalid because you do not think I know what I am talking about. That somehow, I am delusional in how I see the world and events in it.
That is okay Jim, for most of my life, people have dismissed my viewpoints, feelings and beliefs. I have come to the conclusion that what other people think about me really is not that important to me. The only ones that I need to make happy is “Me and God”, everyone else just has an opinion.

Everyone has their own perception of what is reality, which all based on people personal experience, environments from both of family and professional life.
Like I said, you can have your own opinion, that is your right, but you do not have the right to tell someone else their opinion is not wrong.

Reagan was great. Great communicator. Great unifier. Great president.

Corporate bankruptcies happen for many reasons. Why a company gets into a financial mess can be helped by bankruptcy mitigation. Like Staples. Like Trump. Many people don’t like entrepreneurs like a Trump. Their upbringing says go to school, get a job, work 40-50 years building someone else’s business and then retire with a good pension. So, they resent entrepreneurs that often could retire at age 30 or 40. Trump could have retired and enjoyed life. Instead he sees bad things happening in the Democrat Party that he was a member of and decides to try and change the direction of the country. The Democrat Party rejected him. So, he goes to the Republican Party even though they had their bad apples too. And, he’s vilified by both. He wins and cleans up a ton of bad things and all you hear is all the bad things he did 20-30 years ago. And, he’s a meanie and says things the way he shouldn’t. Happens in all organizations. Joseph Smith filed bankruptcy as Harold pointed out. There was foul mouth J. Golden Kimball. The saying “You can’t see the forest from the trees” means you focus on the minimal things than the major things like the world exploding with thousands of nukes to throw. Focus on the positive things about people that they can and have done. Not the nitpicky things.

How could you say such a thing? It’s all LEGAL. There is no corruption or dishonesty associated with gambling businesses because it is all LEGAL and the politicians say so!

That just isn’t true. I have confirmed and agree with a lot of the things you post.

I believe he was a great President. But, he made some crucial mistakes like bending to Democrats only to be lied to. He also had personal problems morally and ethically too. It seems we have become a society that expects a perfect person for President. At least as conservatives and Republicans. It’s why I say people who attack a politician or someone running for office who isn’t a politician are holier than thou. We need to see the Forrest and it just a tree here and there.

To be honest, “Yes”, I do blame Joseph for his bankruptcy. HE (JS) made some pretty poor decisions. That does not diminish the love and respect I have for the man as a Prophet.

Even Joseph himself said he has many faults and made some pretty dumb decisions. His biggest issue was that he trusted people to a fault, always expected the best from them, which in the end was what caused some of the bad decisions.

It actually helps me, because I realize even the Joseph made mistakes, there is still hope for me. :open_mouth:

As far as Casino work going, while on my mission in Nevada, President Kimball came and talked to the saints. He was asked about saints working in the casino industry, his response was “Is it an honest job”? If they are working honestly, there is no problem with it. The only thing he told the saints “Not to do” was being a dealer in the casino, all the other jobs are fine.

Many of the Casino’s accounting offices are run by LDS folks. Howard Hughes once said that the LDS folks are the only ones he would trust with the money because of their religion. That is before the recent trend where LDS folks get into some shady pyramid schemes.

Reagan has a unique sense of humor. Even the democrats laughed.

The way I read your post, that is what it felt like you were saying. If that is not your intent, then I do apologize for taking it that way.

J Golden was still a member of the 70, show some respect. What you call “foul mouth”, I call being honest.

Second the whole “You can’t see the forest from the trees” is based on what you view as a tree and a forest.

I could say the very same thing about you, that “you can’t see the forest from the trees” because of your obsession with the far-right agenda.

First -Gambling is only legal where it is permitted.
Second - I do not know about other states, but in Nevada, the game commission has a very heavy hand over casino’s and what they do. It far more likely that some Engineering company would screw over people more than a casino could do, they are heavily regulated. I have a very close friend who is an investigator for the Nevada gaming commission.

But your right, what is “legal” does not mean it is “right”. Look at how Hopper and Harold tried to explain that “bankruptcy” is legal and often done in business. Does Trump have the legal right to declare bankruptcy? Yes, is it “morally right” to do it? I guess that is for each of us to decide for ourselves.

Back in the 1970’s, Utah had an ABA basketball team “Utah Stars”, who was owned by Bill Daniels. In 1975-76 Bill sold the team to some other investors who never paid the bills and gave it back to him with mountain of debt. Bill closed the franchise down, leaving season ticket holders, vendors, etc. being owed money.

Bill Daniels was broke himself, but he eventually paid back all the money to the ticket holders, vendor’s and whoever else the Stars franchise owed.

That’s honesty, that’s integrity… Which to be honest, I do not see that much anymore. Everyone, including some in our own faith, feel that if it is legal, then it is right to do.

My uncle was the personnel manager for Harrah’s casino in Lake Tahoe and when he was called to be a bishop they told him to find another job, couldn’t work for a “casino”. Typical reaction in the church… the rest of his career after leaving that job was filled with menial jobs and a lot of frustration. Was he blessed for accepting the call to be a bishop? i guess only he can answer that… from the outside looking in it sure didn’t seem like it.

What is that assumption based on? I am amazed at how many close friends you have that always seem to pop up in every one of our discussions here. The blur betwenn what is legal and what is right has never been more shady. It affects the church too. People can do all kinds of stuff now… that several decades ago never would have been acceptable. Anybody who disagrees with that isn’t paying attention. When I was a kid if you didn’t go to church you were headed to the terrestial or telestial kingdom… too funny.

Must have been some honest mormon businessmen…

Is there hope for Trump? I mean all his corporate bankruptcies.

Shady pyramid schemes? Do you know the difference between non-shady pyramid businesses and shady pyramid businesses? I’m sure you don’t.

I got a good laugh from your comment about all these close friends that he has
I don’t see the immorality of an entity like a friend, family moor government stepping in and paying the price for bad decisions and personal mistakes. Especially when the goal is to be successful. Isn’t that what the mediator did for our sins?

Just curious when was there? I served my mission in Nevada 76-78; first assignment was South Lake (talk about paradise). I taught the entertainment manager for Harrah’s. I would have to look in my journal to remember his name.

Was he called the be Bishop in the Tahoe ward? When I was there it was Bishop Clark.

That was very common, to be honest, when President Kimball said those words in an area fireside, I was kind of shocked. For the very reason that you mentioned. In Vegas, one the Stake President worked as head of accounting for casino there. Who knows what the real rules were at the time.

Sorry your uncle had to go through that.

BTW, I went from Paradise (South Lake Tahoe) to Hell (Kingman, Arizona) in one transfer!

Kingman was great, but the contrast of environment was not lost on me.

Personal experience is what my assumption is based on.

Contrary to popular opinion, I do have a lot of friends that work in various areas. FBI, U of U AD office, Ex-Seal sniper and this particular guy I was talking about, was an umpire with me during a regional tournament I worked.

I do not know if he was LDS or not, I was just referring to his personal integrity.

Ask Jim that question.
