Pluses and Caveats going into Season

Any fan of D1 college football should read “The System-The Glory and Scandal of Big-Time College Football” by Jeff Benedict and Arman Keteyian. It’s an awesome look behind the curtain at what has happened in big $ football programs for decades–almost all of which the NCAA knew about and ignored for a variety of reasons. And yes, there is a chapter about BYU…

This was written before NIL but does a solid job of explaining the general corruption in D1 football and the NCAA’s work to condone or even encourage it if the money is right.

Thank you for that response. That’s the kind of response that should be part of this discussion as it isn’t conspiracy driven, but represents someone’s research into a topic.
Just off the top of your head (because you’re credible and I’m too lazy to check it out) was the conclusion that most big time programs were blatantly breaking rules or a handful a la SMU (very good 30 for 30 episode I think)? Did others play by the rules, but just barely?
Does the book get specific about ND? Just trying to get a general feel for it. Thanks

Thanks for the information. Honestly, anyone saying there wasn’t big money golf games being played, like $10,000 per hole really is just being combative and contentious. Although, I wouldn’t doubt that some of that will continue still illegally.
