Ranking the big 12 teams, week 9

1 ISU would have to be the front runner.

2-6 I would put TTU, Utah, ASU, BYU and Kansas in the top contenders list. Mix em up, I don’t care, any of those teams could win it all. (big 12)

7-13 TCU should be in the top 6 as well but we will see tomorrow, K St has fallin, they bearly beat a good ND team. Az, Baylor, WVU and CU

14-16, the stinkers….Cinn, OSU, Houston we still have a problem.

The problem is we don’t know much because everyone is playing patsies except Baylor, Utah and ISU.

I know this…..BYU will be ranked on Monday. KSU- nope. BSU-nope.

Actually, UCLA wasn’t much better than Portland State. They looked horrible.

Probably need to look at TCU as a factor this year. They destroyed North Carolina on the road in Bill Bellichec’s college coaching debut.

Yes, I am moving them up for this week.

1- ISU, until they get knocked off.

2-7 Kansas, TCU, ASU, Utah, BYU, TTU

Kansas has a defense. TCU on a road win at Chapel Hill. ASU is considered a frontrunner even if they are missing Scattaboo. Utah’s win on the road at UCLA but……they still put up tons of points to go with their big time D. And BYU, who I think will end up the frontrunner because we have the B12 BEST D and I think Bear will only get better.

8-13 K St has got big time issues but they can still win it all. CU won’t be as good this year but they have Prime and enough talent to ruin anyone’s season. Baylor had a tough road loss but could end up a contender. Arizona, much better on D but not a contender. WVU, won’t know until they play someone.

14-16 Houston is much better and could move up. Cinn, despite their passing, almost made it a game vs. Neb. OSU, I hate the thought that Mike Gundy may be playing his last season, he was big in getting BYU accepted to the big 12.

Big 12 Football Power Rankings: Utah, BYU Climb

oh where have I heard that before

oh ya it was me

ok here is my raking and how I see it now

:hash:1Utah: I puked in my mouth as I said it, but that is no reason to ignore the obvious. Their defense is sound and now they actually have an offense. they are going to be hard to beat. If Wit doesn’t try to take control of the offence they are the best team in the conference.
:hash: 2 and 3 TCU & ISU: I don’t know who is better. both had strong wins against ~good teams. ISU has a good test this weekend so we will see how good they are.
:hash: 4 and 5 BYU & Arizona: Arizona looked good against Hawaii and I still think this will be our trap game that might start a losing streak of close games. if we come out and our offence dominates Stanford and our run game is solid allowing :bear: to get his feet under him. I will change my tune.
:hash: 6, 7 and 8 Baylor, Colorado & ASU (in that order). Baylor did ok against Auburn, but they couldn’t stop their running QB. Prime lost his two sons and now it doesn’t look like he can coach, the loss to GT didn’t look good. ASU had problems stopping Northern AZ offence and also had trouble scoring. without Scat they lost a big piece to their offence and they don’t have a replacement.
:hash: wildcard Kansas: they played spoiler last year so I don’t know how good they will be this year.
:hash: bottom feeders: for those who are left who cares they’re all fighting for last place.

I thought that for a moment but UCLA is Putrid so I will hold out for a real game before I see Ut as a contender. And if Dampier goes down. they are toast!

No argument……1-4 I would interchange. but you are missing Kansas and they are firing on all cylinders and Daniels beat BYU last year, now they have a good D. ASU is far better then a 6 or worse. I have them in the top 3 right now

K ST, still lethal and there is the problem. Anyone could jump up and beat anyone else in the crazy Big 12.

they were my wildcard

here’s what ESPN thinks:

2025 Big 12 College Football Power Index - ESPN

To win the Big 12 and move on to the playoffs

TCU 20% BYU 18% Utah 16% ISU 14% Kansas 10% ASU 6% K St 3%

TTU and the rest

the team I did forget was TTU. I didn’t see the game so I am not sure where to place them. I did watch the replay and there was one sack allowed by TTU and two field goals in the fist half, but the score showed that they dominated, so I will put them as a wild card. I am still not sold that they will be able to come together with all the new players they brought in.

I agree with Fish. UCLA was terrible. I’d put BYU at 2 or 3 right now.

you want to change that tune after what they couldn’t do to Mississippi state

maybe you want to take back this one? we barley beat a team that barley beat Hawaii and Arizona killed Hawaii.

I’m still standing by my rankings

Actually Hawaii beat Stanford. The game was in Hawaii so those teams are about equal. Hawaii has never been nearly as good on the mainland as they are on the island We didn’t barely beat Stanford. Look at the score and the stats. BYU looked very average on offense but dominated the game start to finish. It wasn’t 69-0 but you only beat teams like Portland and Cal Poly by those kind of scores.

All right Sunday nap is always a good way to clear your head, so I take back that we barely beat them, but our offense didn’t look good against their defense while Hawaii was able to move the ball pretty well against their defense. So I’m still going to say Arizona is a lot better than many people think.

The offense miscues are fixable. Dropped balls. Penalties at bad times. OL will learn to pick up blitzes. Coaches have to throw the flag when it’s obvious the refs placed the ball incorrectly. Was that a Big 10 officiating crew?

I think Reed did a good job of explaining Hawaii versus Stanford.

  1. Stanford had two weeks to prep against a true freshman. They have plenty of great athletes so I was not surprised at all that they made our offense look sad at times
  2. Somebody can correct me if I’m wrong but I think those were Pac 12 refs and it seemed to me like every time we had a third down inside the 20 they made sure we had a phantom penalty and killed our drives so there’s three touchdowns they took from us just on Bias calls. And that was in the first half alone. I didn’t watch the second half because Kehlani does not open up the offense once he has a big lead.
  3. Byu‘s defense as I said before the season started should be better this season than even last season. They helped Retzlaff hide a lot of mistakes. and they’ll help our new freshmen get time until the game slows down for him. Which might take five or six games
  4. Everyone needs to have patience when it comes to Bear. He’s a 18 year-old kid. He’s gonna be amazing someday but he’s pretty darn smart. Worked with John Beck on fundamentals since he was a seventh grader he may even lose a game or two for us this season we are lucky to have him

Kansas State has proved to me that they are not in the top six. It almost feels like they let their rankings get to their head and didn’t put in the work this year because they look pretty darn sad. I’m not ripping on Johnson their quarterback he’s special but everybody else seems to be Playing in molasses over there.

Ranking the Big 12 right now is crap shoot. Iowa St is good for sure but we don’t know how good Iowa is. Iowa State is a top 20 team. Where they rank in the Top 20 is anybody’s guess at this point. Utah is probably real good but Cal Poly is about like Portland and UCLA is bad kinda like Stanford. Probably a little better. They have a good QB this year and a good offensive coorddintor.

Tech has murdered a couple of terrible teams so who knows yet how good they are, but I think they are good.

BYU is good but the offense is about where I thought it would be at this point. Maybe a little below average. The D appears to be stellar and special teams appear to be stellar and that will win a lot of games even with a pedestrian offense.

Who knows how good Arizona is? They have pounded a couple of weak opponents. They way underperformed last year and could be back to 2023 form.

Arizona St blew a game Saturday but they will be good. They ran the ball well Saturday and that was a big concern with Skattaboo gone. Leavitt had a bad game. They aren’t off to good start

We do know Ok St is real bad. West Virginia appears bad. All therest the jury is out.

not hating on :bear: also everyone needs to start using the :bear: emoji when referencing him. just type colon bear colon.
the kid is legit, but he is still learning. the kid stood up and took hits and made a throws, bulldozed a guy for a touchdown, best deep ball I have seen in years to Roberts, and though there were a lot of struggles with penalties, sacks and dropped balls he didn’t let it get to him.

I predict that soon in the stadium we are going to hear a Cougar, bear and a tiger from the loud speakers.
