Rant: BYU's admission and scholarship announcements

They could. But, they would have to charge tuition much higher. They would also need help from the tax payers as well. But, the tuition is the largest issue. The Church and School choose not to gouge the students and the fans.

It’s all a crap shoot for admissions these days. I got into BYU back in the 60’s, but today it wouldn’t be a chance for me. I think the kids from Utah get cut short these days at the Y because the school wants to get kids from other places. I came as a non-member and as a military veteran. I didn’t know the criteria for admission back then nor do I now. Kids today have all kinds of extra requirements today, especially if they are an LDS-member like being a Seminary graduate and who knows what kind of scores, what majors they select, etc, etc.

But if they could get away with it and charge more for tuition and game tickets, etc. wouldn’t that be a good idea? because, after all, that is the purest form of capitalism is to get the most you can from what the market will bear, correct?

Is there something wrong with “gouging” people? I mean isn’t that what capitalism is all about. You do whatever you can to make as much money as you can, regardless of whether it is taking advantage of situations or people or whatever.

Of course if that were truly the Lord’s way of doing things, the church would be following that same policy and strategy. They do it at BYU bookstore with BYU sports fan gear so why not just take it all the way?

You obviously don’t know what capitalism is. No, it’s not about gouging not is it without morals and ethics either. The competition alone is a price control in and of itself.
With sports, eventually the current costs will cause a price war. But, there is no reason believe corruption exists. With socialism there always is corruption, coercion and loss of liberty.

No Scott, you do not know your capitalism History…

Corporations abused workers, was greedy and had no morals until the unions forced them to make some changes.

I am not a union guy, but they did stop a lot of crap corporations were doing.

So, you think the tyrannical socialist countries around the world were more moral? By the way, what do unions have to do with hurting capitalism? In a capitalist society, you have a right to own your own property (cash, home, stocks … ) Unions don’t disagree with this.

For the record, grasshopper believes there is no corruption in college basketball.

Wow…

What world do you live in? Do you have the slightest idea what is going on out there? I know exactly what capitalism is and so do you but you “obviously” have no clue what is happening in the world around you.

Come on man…

Actually, I was specifically speaking about your conspiracy. There is no evidence. I will now use an analogy. Your collusion conspiracy has no evidence or proof any more than the Democrats Trump collusion.

The world of the grasshopper in La La Land… it must be an interesting place.

Jim H: It sure looks that way these days, with independence in football and a poor 2017 season it doesn’t look to promising. With the new OC and everybody having to fight for a position on the football team, 2018 season is kind of like the men’s basketball team, rebuilding and looking to the future. Except the basketball team is playing in a monopolized rec. league in the WCC. Football seems over scheduled with too many P-5 games and no presence in a conference.

Rumor has it that BYU may go to the MWC next year… Which would bolster MWC TV contract negotiation which ends at the end of next year.

Not sure if it is just the “Olympic Sports” or all sports.

I do believe their are still some sore feelings about BYU leaving the way they did.
