Those scholarships is up to individual schools to do. They are not mandatory for the schools.
Like the NCAA they do have multiple year scholarships, but again it is up to the desecration of the individual schools.
I believe most schools, like BYU if a player has to medically retire, they are moved over to a academic scholarship to continue their education. I think it was the Hall kid that was a RB for BYU who mentioned this in an article, that he appreciated what BYU did for him to get his education, even though he could not play.
