Scouting ASU for all the marbles

A lot to unwrap here, starting with how Kalani viewed the Kansas loss. Sitake,“Kicking FGs instead of TDs” will lose you games in the big 12!

1 So I take it that Sitake will be going for it more in the redzone.

2 Sam Levitt is the ASU QB, he has a Fr. not a 5th yr Sr. as was Daniels. Hill, you can take more risk with a Fr., remember how KSt’s Johnson fell apart at BYU? Pressure him. He only has 4 interceptions all season. He can run.

3 ASU starts and ends with Senior RB Skattabo. lead rusher and #2 receiver by a mile-know where he is at all times. put two guys on him if you have to.

4 WR Jorden Tysen, 833 yds, 9 TDs. also a guy you can’t let free.

BYU’s defense is good enough to clip these guy’s wings. ASU is averaging 30ppg. We can keep them under 24. Can BYU score more? That is the big question.

Everything about this game spells a tight game. Get the lead, keep the lead, something BYU did not do vs. Kansas.

BYU’s offense the last 2 games has been dismal. The pressure of being 9-0 completely got to them. Now with the loss, will they play loose again? Doubt it, all of the marbles on this game, on the road.

Fish, you beat me to the creation of this topic so I am putting my post here and deleting my thread

Pff College football show talk about how Retzlaff preforms against being rushed

he really struggles when blitz or being pressured, but ASU pass blitz is horrible. “they have the second worst pass rushing grade in all of college foogball”, “third worst pass rush win rate”, “110th in blitz rate” only blizing 27% of the time, utah blitzed 60+% of the time.

that is a good match up for us.

ASU also seem to focus on one receiver Jordan Tyson. he averages double digit catches a game the next highest is his tight end, and the most he’s gotten in a game is 5. I see there being a lot of skattebo runs and check down passes. I know BYU can shutdown the run and the pass. Retzlaff is awesome when he isn’t blitzed or rushed. I see this going down like the Baylor and UCF games 34 23 BYU.

here are the links to the two videos I referenced

Thanks. Hey, these are some gooooooood points!

ASU being poor to average on the blitz and the other point discussed in this video…ASU’s poor defense on 3&4th downs. They are like 80th at stopping conversions but then BYU is like 98th at getting 1st downs on 3rd and long. something has to give.

Bodes well for BYU and QB Retzaiff. He tends to make bad choices when pressured, ASU is poor at pressuring opposing teams. TO be clear, BYU’s two biggest weaknesses, ASU is poor at exploiting.

They talk in detail about about Cam Skattebo. If BYU can slow him down, the last 3 games, QB Levitt has been a difference maker. Can BYU rock Levitt? We shall see

I think my little brother Craig was Leavitt’s youth group advisor at church. I know Craig is close friends with Jared Leavitt.

I think one reason Jake is so good when he’s not pressured is that Lassiter and Roberts are OUTSTANDING working the medium to deep middle of the field, and it takes a little more time for those routes to develop. Jake under pressure is no bueno as you have pointed out.

Craig is a good guy…

Craig is not a good guy. Craig is my nemesis because he was a better athlete and player, even though I was 4 years older, tried harder, and all the coaches loved me more. But it was fun having him on my intramural basketball team when I was a senior and he was a freshman. He was a very good player. We made the final 4 and the entire team except him were seniors who had played together 3 years.

He’s got a great head on his shoulders. I’m sure you learn a lot from him .
