With just over a month to go, lets look at BYU’s 1st game @ SMU. SMU made the jump to the ACC along with Cal and Stanford in the same manner that BYU jumped into the Big 12 a year ago.

1 SMU returns all of it’s talent from last year’s 11-3 win season

2 Their best player…QB Prestion Stone, Jr can run, had a 28 TDs vs. 6 interceptions.

3 Return all 7 receivers, just like BYU

4 1st Quarter Scoring: SMU 174, Opponents 58

5 The offense was fun, but it was the defense that won SMU the AAC Championship. The pass rush was outstanding

BYU on the road

1 Possibly the best receiving core in BYU history

2 I love our RBs, Miles Davis, TJ Martin and Hinckley Ropati…if BYU has any chance for a road win, it boils down to our run game (SMC’s only weakness)

3 BYU did nothing in the transfer portal, Sitake believes we have the pieces, one year older and we were oh so close to upsets of Ok and OK St. I’ll buy

4 Can’t get caught up in trying to catch up if BYU gets behind in this high octane SMC scoring machine. BYU has to be methodical in a strong run game and short dink passes to eat clock, get points in any way possible and stay within striking distance. Goes against Sitake’s tendencies but that is the only way to win on the road.

What gives??? Starting 2 road games against very good SMC and WY??? WTH???
Sorry but I have to go with the home team, BYU on the road and facing a scoring machine.

I hope there is a game plan in place and that it is followed. Please don’t start with the gadgetry and trickery A-rod. Build something solid and dependable and then work in the gadget stuff.

Actually would love a 3-0 start of course. I think we match up pretty evenly with SMU - Thanks Fish, good take. On paper, should have no problem with the Laramie Slushes even on the road.
Quick story.
When living just outside Tulsa many years ago, we went shopping for a conversion van. Ran into work buddy at a dealership doing the same thing. In college he was one of those Wyoming students who were outrageously drunk and absolutely was in the middle of the garbage strewn, yelled etc at BYU when they played up there. Got to know him in Oklahoma and actually was a great guy. Kinda bragged about the treatment of BYU team (they had a lot of fun he said).
Anyway, we both were haggling with the dealer late Saturday evening as they were turning out the lights. We told the dealer we would buy two vans (that we were looking at) or none and go somewhere else, so give us the best deal. We left telling them - sorry, not good enuf.
First thing Monday morning the dealer calls. They did come back with a good deal (Bobby told me he was good with whatever I negotiated). I gave the dealer a price and the dealer said "Great! Which one do you want and which one does Bob want (each van had a different color scheme). I said, “I don’t know, Bob and I haven’t discussed that. Let me call Bob and call you right back” The choice wasn’t hard, you see. The color schemes were blue and white and the other van was brown and gold. Guess who got which one. Fun memory for us.
