If BYU wins on the road the next few games, it’s going to be a good year, if not-a learning year and hopefully a bowl game. Reality check-A-Rod -BYU qb recruits are signing because of the offense that is being run at BYU. Hazarding a guess-offense will be decided by the offensive line opening holes for the running game. If not there isn’t a qb on the team that can make up the difference . Sitake is doing his job as “The Face of BYU football”. Hill is doing his job-question is-How good are the cornerbacks and safeties, because running probably won’t be a great option. Interesting questions, which will be revealed in the next 3 games. Agree with all of this. I see the same thing with the DBs. Not quick and hesitate. Pressure on the QB will be important in two weeks when we play a legitimate QB.
Fans just don’t seem to understand top players are being recruited by Arod. The players must know something.
Utah beats a high school team and moves up 5. We beat a high school team and a P4 team and we move down 2. I smell anti-Mormon AP.
UCLA win on the road was big for Utah, no matter how bad the Bruins are. Defeat EC and Colorado on the road and the Cougars will be ranked
UNLV beat UCLA. Beating UCLA is about as impressive as BYU beating Stanford. Two schools that have a good tradition but aren’t very good this year. UCLA may be a little better than Stanford but not much.
Yeah, the BYU offense isn’t where it should be but I believe it has good personnel. Yesterday the defense was lights out. The offense made too many penalties that caused drives to stall ending in field goals. Two drives had touchdowns taken away on questionable calls. The hold on the Kingston TD was very questionable. Martin probably scored a TD and the officials said he was short and the next play there is a false start. That’s eight points taken away by questionable officiating. I usually don’t complain about officiating, particularly when BYU wins, but this game seemed to be a bit one sided on the officiating. Glasker was tackled a couple of times where he would have sacked the QB and no whistle.
BYU dominated and the game was never in question. Frankly it looked like a lot of our wins last year. If they do that week after week and win ugly I won’t complain. This isn’t the Lavell era where BYU in its good years racked up 500 yards and 40 points a game. This is frankly more like Whittingham’s good teams at Utah.
Special teams outstanding except Kingston’s fumble that was recovered by BYU. There were two real good returns. The BYU punter made several outstanding punts putting Stanford inside the 10 yard line, and of course our FG kicker was outstanding as usual.
Maybe yesterday was an aberration but OK St. losing 69-3 to Oregon was awful. Looks like OK St is probably worse than Stanford or UCLA. West Virginia losing to Ohio U was bad, K St losing to Army was bad. Army lost to Tarleton St. Ohio U has never been anything more than a middling mid major. Arizona St choked against Mississippi St and gave up a bomb with less than 40 seconds left in the game. Those are the kinds of games the conference can’t afford to lose. When one of the conference favorites losed to a lower rung SEC team it hurts the Big 12’s stock. That’s why I am saying the Big 12 is not very strong. I think there a lot of good teams in the league and frankly 8 or 10 teams could potentially win the conference. Last year everything was stood on its head when BYU, Colorado, and ASU tied for first with ISU. We could see something like that this year with a team picked to be a bottom feeder rising up to do well and a favorite flopping like Utah and OK St did last year. It looks like Kansas St may be this years flop and TCU this years surprise team.
There were a couple of good wins by the conference. I am probably a little more negative about the conference than BYU. I think BYU could very well do what they did last year. They appear to be in about the same place they were at this time a year ago with the same strengths and weaknesses.
I believe the BYU/Colorado game will answer a lot of questions. Colorado is probably no more than an average B12 team and if BYU handles them well, it will probably be a positive sign for the remainder of the season. Jury is still out!
Nice try. You can’t treat BYU different because UCLA was as bad as Stanford. And both big wins were by bad teams. So, no reason for BYU to get set back 2 spots and Utah move up 5 spots.
The refs were always spotting the ball for BYU about a yard behind where they should have. And, they were giving Stanford extra yardage on every play. It was so obvious. And the penalty on Kingston’s touchdown was pathetic. The real final score is 38-3.
Unfortunately you can’t control men’s thinking, but it doesn’t mean they are prejudiced against Mormons. Their reality is probably that Utah’s win was at UCLA and BYU’s was in Provo
Here’s where the coaches are better at understanding and put BYU #25 instead of dropping them 2 spots. And, you can control bigotry if you don’t give into it. I have a feeling the new AD is bending ears. It’s no longer just about prestige. It’s about money, transfers and recruiting.
It’s a whole new world out there and most bigots would deny they were bigoted
I noticed the same thing with the ball placement. I thought coaches could challenge calls like that? And I thought come on Kalani challenge it. Am I crazy or did something change.
So I had a little nap ( the best part about a Sunday), watch the replay and thought about what locked on cougars said and here’s my thoughts.
Obviously 
is still learning and he’s having problems seeing the entire field, so we’re going to have to lean on the run a lot. This means that the oline is going to have to be stellar at the run, but that didn’t happen. These two problems is what made it seem like our offense was muted.
I’m not trying to Discount Arod’s play calling here, but these are two big problems and hopefully the offensive line will be improved in the next game with the returning players and time to solidify who are the starters, and will continue to improve as a quarterback taking pressure off of the oline.
One thing that I will have to admit is I got caught up in the hype of thinking he was going to look like some season quarterback. It’s hard sometimes to take off those blue goggles and look at reality
I am going to say one more thing. LJ Martin turned a lot of nothing into something last night. That kid is a baller and I love it.
LJ Martin needs more carries, plain and simple. He is like Jamaal Williams, whom I said the same thing about when he was at BYU. It takes too long for the coaching staff to figure out and when you don’t really have a game plan it takes even longer. Eighteen carries is good but he should have 20+. The problem is that it doesn’t allow enough other plays to run the gadgetry and trick plays that Arod insists on doing every game whether it makes sense or not.
I know I just have to accept it but it is a tough pill to swallow because I think it impacts how good the offense is or, in this case, is not. Ugghhh.

Exactly right. Bear wasn’t reading through his progressions. He was mostly throwing to his first choice. That was Mentioned on Sports Nation today that we have two weeks to work on that and the OL getting lost with different blitzes.
Yeah, that’s all fine and dandy but it doesn’t address the issues that haven’t changed for several seasons… so yeah, all of those things about progressions and the OL picking up blitzes and stuff matter but when that all comes together and they are still not able to generate any offensive flow or they get too caught up in gadget plays or out patterns from the one yard line or shotgun formation from the one foot line or… etc. what will the excuse be then?
It remains to be seen if THOSE ISSUES will ever improve or get fixed. You know, the kind of things that have nothing to do with the issues that were mentioned.

I am still not convinced that ARod is a good OC or play caller. Too many times, he calls some bone head play (like the wounded duck formation, which failed miserably). Nor do I trust Arod in fixing the issues the offense has.
Sorry, I am not one of those “Raw Raw” type fans, I just don’t see our offense being effective this year.
It is the typical overreaction by people here. We are fans which is short for fanatics. Only two games have been played still a lot to learn. Last year we didn’t know BYU was good until after the K State game. Nobody knew SMU was good and BYU snoozed past SIU and Wyoming and no more impressively than they beat Portland and Stanford.
It is obvious watching Bachmeier that he has all the physical tools. The coaches say he is smart. He is learning and the good thing is he hasn’t turned the ball over yet.
