Should Frank Jackson come to BYU?

Here is another Lone Peak star who is being recruited by Duke, UCLA and others. Could Rose have better worked with Bartley to help Jackson’s recruiting to BYU? Top 30 recruit, 5 star athlete from Hawks team he likes to bash

No… he is from Utah and from Lone Peak High School… Therefore he is no good, it is lazy recruiting, and it beams of “California Bias”…

So what Coach K from Duke likes the dude… he is from Utah and BYU should STOP recruiting Utah players… :unamused:

Well, we finally agree that Jim’s off his rocker on this one.

The guy transferred to Lone Peak… it isn’t enough anymore for a kid to play basketball for the team where he grew up or lives, he has to transfer to a SCHOOL that will help him develop his basketball skills to prepare for the college game.

I don’t think it matters where he goes to college because he is only thinking basketball anyway. If he wants the one and done route then by all means go to Duke or Kentucky. KU has lots of openings for one and done guys.

I think we want those guys too. If we are wanting a national championship anyways. Jabari Parker would have taken us further too. We have a chance to get one and you don’t want one?

As long back as I remember kids were moving and living with uncles and aunts to get coaches by Coach C. Nothing new.

Uh Jim… HE DID NOT TRANSFER… His FAMILY MOVED into the boundaries of Lone Peak High School

From SLTRIB: “Lewis said Jackson registered at Lone Peak in April, adding the family moved into their new place of residence the first week of May, making Jackson eligible for the upcoming basketball season in late 2013.”

So…
A) he is playing for the school where he lives…
B) Your telling me a family does not have the right to move from Lehi to Alpine? Have you seen the difference in the houses? I moved from Kearns (4 bedroom house) to Sandy (6 bedroom house) when my son was in 10th grade, so by your comments, he should not be allowed to play sports for local high school.

That’s what he’s saying. He should have to sit out a year to stop the conspiracy

People also complain about losing their local talent to private schools. Happens from the pro-public school advocates who seemingly are pro-liberty capitalists until it doesn’t benefit their school.

So it was just by chance that he “moved” to the school district that Lone Peak happens to be located in?

Floyd… are you getting the Gavenman disease?

Of course he “transferred”. That is the term that is used when a student moves from one school to another. Please tell me you don’t think the family move had anything to do with basketball. It happens all the time… an entire family uproots so the talented kid can be trained for a possible nba or nfl career. They legitimized the transfer by moving into the school district boundaries…

You obviously didn’t understand what I was posting, something SG does all the time. What a couple of knuckleheads…

PS - Thanks for letting us all know about the number of bedrooms in your house, I know that is a benchmark standard by which utahn’s judge each others righteousness… the bigger the house and the nicer the neighborhood, the more righteous someone is… right?

And why is it wrong to move? Why is it wrong to play in a system that maximizes a kid’s talents? All schools try to get the best coach they can interview. When I was at BYU, Provo High had some great players and a coach to coach them. Devin Durant being one of them. Your attempt to suggest it’s not legit is simply rediculous

So what you are saying is a family should not move into another community (regardless of reason) if their children plays sports because it might show some “conspiracy”… Wow Jim… that is pretty petty and narrow minded…

If you don’t know, Living in Alpine is a destination spot… For many people who work in Utah and are trying to “make it” in their industry, moving to Alpine is a sign that you made it. Shallow I know, but I know too many people who talk about it.

So, for a family that is living in a lower income area like Lehi, then moves to Alpine, says a lot about the parents, not the kids.

Average cost of a house in alpine is around 700,00, while in Lehi is 300,000. Do you think a family is really going to inflict that much pain of finances to help their kid? Don’t think so…

Add to that, look at Lehi School and the “Stuff” they have available to their students for their education and then look at Lone Peak… sorry to say it, but when the area residents have money, the school educational benefits are greatly enhanced.

Lastly, UHSAA (governing body of high school sports) investigates this type of move for any athlete going from one school to another. The parents have to show why they are moving into the area for reasons outside of the sports program. This group that determines eligibility has in the past made kids set up to two years for such moves.

Every thing is not as jaded and corrupt as it is in California Jim…

---------- it might show some “conspiracy”

You are pulling a SG again, confusing his words with what I said. I NEVER said anything like that.

---------- Alpine is a destination spot…

Yeah, I know all about utahn’s and their destinations spots. It’s sickening really and the primary reason why my fathers’ money was stolen… I’m sure. Lower income areas, destination spots, now you are giving out home prices as if it wasn’t enough to tell me all about the bedroom numbers… etc. It’s pathetic.

---------- Every thing is not as jaded and corrupt as it is in California Jim…

This comment might be up for ironic statement of the year. After all the things you admitted to that are happening in the beehive state, you say this? That is just too funny

Out of respect for you Jim… I am going to end this comment with this…

Yes, there are LDS aholes out there in California as well as In Utah, Arizona and Idaho, Nevada… No matter where you live I can find one…

having said that, I think when you start being critical of other LDS people simply because of where they live or how much money they make or How they make it, says more about who YOU are then WHAT they did.

Yes, Your dad was taken by someone who was a Mormon (not LDS because those are the people who actually live their religion) who was devious, misleading and ruthless. I guess I will never know what that is like, because I trust NO ONE when it comes investing my $$$. I do my own research, I check with several agencies about the people, etc.

You seem to be a bit judgmental about us Utah members, because of what happened to your dad. I am sorry he trusted someone with his money, that is hard thing for children to see the aftermath. I can understand it, but Jim… Your constant berating of Utah Mormons is WRONG and Not something who is endowed should be doing (think of the covenants you made). The Lord said “Ye are required to forgive all”, there is no wiggle room for you to hold your grudge against these people, and frankly Jim I have seen the change in you…

Again, Sorry about what happened to your dad, but Jim, you need to get over it because it is changing you and not in a good way…

Now I am off my soapbox… Just know that I do care about you Jim and frankly worried that you will let the actions of a few people change who you are… Not trying to be offensive, but today is not one of my better days.

I hate the new cougarfan site…

I find it interesting that I get everyone’s posts except Jims lol… And I agree. This site sucks. It’s awful and the general abandonment of almost all of the users is a testament to the terrible decisions the new owners made…

The system said I had to have at least 10 words to post… I think I went over board.

“I think I went over board.”

Really? c’mon Floyd, you don’t go overboard. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Hopefully someday you’ll be able to move to Alpine, so everyone will know that you “made it.” If you do it will be that much easier to watch all of the future BYU basketball players. :hushed:

Why would I EVER, EVER want to move to Alpine? I have enough problems dealing with the lower income Sandy people.

I prefer the salt of the earth areas… Like Riverton

Hate to break it to you Jim… I already “made it”… I don’t let others know… LOL

These days, it’s easy to make it on a Socialist Government job

I agree with you that Jim is going through this period of adjustment and being that he’s a good person, will turn around and not go postal on anyone from Utah

An article today on Jackson. He still is planning on a two-year mission. Seems like then BYU is his best fit. Questions remain though. Will he play one year before his mission then go Pro instead. Will he decide like Parker did and not go on his mission and end up at Duke? Must be tough to be so good
